Is This a Disease?! Help Needed!
by PalmTreeDude- 5 replies
- 1.2k views
So one of my Washingtonia robusta started to go yellow and then the edges went brown and it slowly died. Then, two of my other Washingtonia have started to do the same thing a while back, but are still alive. Now, my final healthy one is starting to show the very beginning stages (slight yellowing in the oldest leaf). Then some of my Saw palmetto seedlings started to show "symptoms" and now it seems like my Archontophoenix cunninghamiana is showing it a little bit, although it fortunately doesn't seem to be progressing much. I can't tell if this is some sort of disease (I don't understand how potted palms indoors in Virginia would get a palm disease) or if they have some …

Indoor Adonidia setup - feedback?
by PalmX- 3 replies
Hey guys, new around here but wanted to share my indoor setup and get any feedback. I ordered this Christmas Palm online not too long ago. I've been bringing it outside every once in awhile if the weather is nice. Right now it is inside a greenhouse with a [boil] humidifier to keep the humidity around 70-80 about 12 hours a day. I have a Black Magic grow light above on a 12 hour timer to supplement a bit of extra light. There's also a small personal fan in there to help circulate air. I have noticed despite my efforts on humidity, the tips are still turning brown. Could this be from a delayed response to shipping? I am curious if you guys think it w…

Today I was losing up the topsoil of my Licuala peltata var sumawongii and I think I found 4 separate spikes underneath the topsoil all white topped. Not sure whether I am right or something else growing there. They are hard to the touch. Anyone has experienced this?

I just received 4 young Johannesteijsmannia magnifica, 2 leaves, but they just look the same like my altifrons. Is there anything different between magnifica and altifrons in color of leaves, the back of the leaves when they are young , can they be identified in this stage or only when they are older? Are there any available pictures to see the differences if there are when they are small? I hope you guys can help me out because I am afraid I got scammed

My Johannesteijsmannia perakensis germinated about 8 month ago with 2 beautiful long leaves and the seed still attached to the palm is still full and heavy ?? Is it possible it has 2 embryo? All the other germinated seeds are all empty and lightweight. You can really tell the difference. Is that a possibility and if should I leave it like it is or detach it and try to germinate it again?

Hi everyone, I just potted up my first germinated Pelagodoxa Henryana seed; this one has been germinating since Dec 19, 2016. I have 7 more to germinate and will hopefully start a family of them. I used the potting mix suggested by @Pal Meir with slight modifications (1/2 Small Pine Bark with 1/4 Perlite and 1/4 Vermiculite) Wish me luck.

Coccothrinax seedlings help
by SilverDragon- 11 replies

Hello everyone. I'm kind of panicking, because I've had these seedlings for almost a year now and their little strap leafs have folded over like how some seedlings of mine do when they're about to croak. I've been watering diligently and they are in sandy loamy fast draining soil. They've been under bright lights, but I had to move them for a day or two. Are they toast? :(

Fungus Gnat Invasion

Coming to you live from the frontlines.... I must have had a particularly nasty batch of soil, because I'm dealing with more gnats than I thought possible. It's currently week 4 of watering with neem oil drenches and the occasional spritz of Eight spray. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to combat these buggers? I'm going about 8 days between watering to let the medium dry but the population continues to grow.

Struggling Kentia Palm
by anyca- 12 replies

Hello everyone! Fairly new to taking care of a bigger palm, we have had our Kentia since summer last year. I'm turning to you all as I have no clue what's wrong with it even after hours of googling. It started with leaf tips and now it is whole fronds going. Initially we thought it was from overfeeding, but we have been washing it through for months and it keeps getting worse. Any idea what's wrong with this green baby and what we could do to save it?

Sabal palmetto seedling
by PlantDad- 12 replies

i have a Sabal palmetto seedling that my buddy shipped to me fr Florida and I have I have it in my bedroom for the winter. It could probably take the cold outside here in Keizer, Oregon zone 8b/9a but I wanted to keep it growing through the winter. Since I have had it it has put out 1 strap leaf and is now developing a leaf with splitting leaf margins. I am shocked by how fast it is now growing. The leaf that it is currently developing has gotten to where it is now in about a month. I keep a daylight led on it for 12 hours a day. I noticed that when I switched to a more warm white led as a way to alternate the lighting spectrum to provide more of a balanced lighting spect…

Bismarckia noblis
by bgifford- 4 replies

Hey Everyone! My neighbor brought me a Bismarck palm back from Florida. This is the first time I got one of these but always loved the look of those (one of my faves). I was wondering how soon I should re-pot this palm into something bigger. I believe it's in either a 5 gal or 7 gal nursery pot. I do have a ton of bigger ones (15 gal, 25 gal). I know that I live well outside this palms minimum hardiness zone but am sure I can grow it into a nice specimen overwintering it inside. Plus the window it is sitting in front of is facing south so winter placement is not an issue (sorry for the dark photo, got it last night and took picture of it to post when it was dar…
