Need more help with Xmas palms please

Hi! I posted a bit ago about my Xmas palms fading and it was determined that they needed to be acclimated the the sun as they may have been grown in a warehouse / shade. I have since followed the guide to slowly acclimate them. my palms seem to be look worse and worse and days go by. I have a moisture meter and am watering them in accordance to that and my finger in the dirt. The leaves are very dry and it has been windy here as well. (I’m in NYC) my biggest concern is that the spear leaf now seems to be browning a bit... does this still look like sun damage? Perhaps something else is at play? the garden place I got them from said they are fertil…

May be dumb question of the day but wth lol. Do we have any control of what direction the shoots (not sure if right word) will open? Do they open towards the sun or away from the sun or is it luck of the draw type thing?

Hello everyone! Its been a little while since I've been on PT. I've got a few questions about Tap Roots and watering my Washingtonia Robusta "Seedling". Not sure if you'd still call it a Seedling though. Haha. I've kept my small little W.Robusta in my West/South-West facing bay window for many months now (since August 2015). Its done quite well, and has not complained. Its thrived this winter even with our often times limited sunlight duration (NW Ohio). Since August its put out 2 large leaves, and another has begun in the center. After arriving here from Nevada I potted it in a Powerade bottle. And there its been since. So, 14 months after receiving these Lytocaryum Hoehnei as tiny 4" pot seedlings from Jeff @Floribunda Palms. I planted them up to 5 gallon containers & made a mix similar to @Pal Meir's mix with Miracle-Gro garden soil, Turface MVP & clayballs these things have really taken off. I had to cut the 5 gallon containers off to get them free. Just put them in 10 gallon containers & doubt they will last a year before having to move them up again. This free draining mix is really the ticket for Lyto's. Guess I'll have to try the Wedd's again in this mix.

This palm has a slight gouge in the base of the trunk. I have attached two pictures of the area. Is there anything I can do to keep this area from decaying? Its a 3 ft plant. It was repotted and the area is now above the soil line. Is a dab of paint a good idea to seal from insects.?

Hi all, We have a Kentia that has soil that literally dries out every 2 days. We bottom water to try and have it keep on to SOME moisture, but whenever we probe a day or two after, it is dry to the bone again. It is shedding and yellowing some bottom baby leaves. I've been made aware it's really not good to repot palms if it can be avoided, so turning to you all for advice here.. should we repot with denser soil? Potting mix 50% and perlite 50%? Or should we not touch it? Appreciate any advice, Annika

Hi, my lipstick palm is developing yellow/ orange/rusty tips only on one separate plant in the same pot. After it totally yellows down (first leaf from bottom) I cut it off and than the next following one starts to do the same. The main plant is fine other than maybe a few yellowing differently. It is most time in the shade and now I started to put it in the sun as well. It gets watered everyday and gets a specific palm fertilizer every other 3 month. I let it stand in water since I bought it in February this year and the water gets renewed every day. It has been growing nicely and I keep my eye on it daily. Safe to have clover or moss in Palm pot?

Aloha! I have a beautiful cyrtostachys renda (aka: lipstick palm, red wax sealing palm) that I picked up from a nursery a few months ago. He's 5'5" and seems pretty healthy. When I got him he had some moss on one small patch where the trunk meets the soil and few little sprouts of clover growing not far away from that. Is it safe to let the clover and moss keep growing in his pot? I love the idea of letting it grow with him but unsure if it is safe or recommended. Any experience or pro tips with this would be much appreciated!

So I've got a few S. Minor seedlings that I'm wondering about. Half of them seem to be growing with their growth point and some arial roots above the surface. Now from what I thought I knew about S. Minor, I thought that the growth point should be below ground. Just wondering if you think I should fill the soil up around them or continue as they are? Cheers! Jake

I have been growing palms for many years in the North (NJ/Zone 7a/b), and they always continue to amaze me. I had one of my three Phoenix roebelini palms overwintered in my chilly garage (essentially frost free but COLD nonetheless). Come March, I thought that two of the three were okay but tossed the third one into the compost pile after chucking it out of its container. So, it was lying in a ditch, out of a pot with roots exposed for weeks even after the freak May storm of "soft hail" in this weird year. Well, yesterday, I noticed it was regrowing new fronds among all the dead fronds. Moral of the story, it's not over till it's over for people and palms!

My little Palm looks like he go the hell kicked out of him. hole in the frond , yellow and brown spots on new frond, brown ends that are shrivelled. Is this a sign of disease especially on the new frond in photo IMG_2344? or fertilizer or water issue? Or is it just normal Palm were and tear? Thanks

Hey all, we recently bought a pot that has an 18" opening on top, and is about 21" wide in the middle since it has a curved outward shape. We bought a Pygmy Date that came in a 10" temporary planter and was wondering if our pot is way too big for this size. We could repot this in our 14" pot and buy a new pygmy that comes in a 17" planter if that's better, was just curious if there is any hope for this plant in our large pot. We did fill the pot about 1/3 with plastic bottles, then potting fabric, so it is well ventilated and has a draining hole in the bottom. Thanks!

I received some seed from @DoomsDave last year and even after moving and cats and everything else, I still have two seedlings left. They're a deep green, and seem very healthy. However! In giving them a deep soak today I noticed that there are new tiny little spears coming up from the edge of the stem, not the center... Then I did some research to find that C. mitis is a Tillering palm! So, now I'm a bit worried. They're in a rather small pot right now, and they only have 3 or 4 leaves each. Good evening all, I've recently gained a chamaerops* palm from a neighbour, photos attached. As you can see it's been neglected for a while, with roots growing out of the bottom and a large root cluster above the soil. Hi, I'm new to the forum and gardening. My brother gave me two beautiful healthy majestic palms to plant inside the house - both were apparently grown in the shade. I repotted them in large 21" inch pots using organic soil and for drainage, about 3" of cubed non-absorbent packing materials. On of them is placed next to my sliding glass door (with good indirect light and the other, which is faring much better, is in a front room with much less light (shown in the small first photo) The one near the light (the next three photos) started dying immediately.
