Today I was losing up the topsoil of my Licuala peltata var sumawongii and I think I found 4 separate spikes underneath the topsoil all white topped. Not sure whether I am right or something else growing there. They are hard to the touch. Anyone has experienced this?

My Johannesteijsmannia perakensis germinated about 8 month ago with 2 beautiful long leaves and the seed still attached to the palm is still full and heavy ?? Is it possible it has 2 embryo? All the other germinated seeds are all empty and lightweight. You can really tell the difference. Is that a possibility and if should I leave it like it is or detach it and try to germinate it again?

Hi everyone, I just potted up my first germinated Pelagodoxa Henryana seed; this one has been germinating since Dec 19, 2016. I have 7 more to germinate and will hopefully start a family of them. I used the potting mix suggested by @Pal Meir with slight modifications (1/2 Small Pine Bark with 1/4 Perlite and 1/4 Vermiculite) Wish me luck.

Coccothrinax seedlings help

Hello everyone. I'm kind of panicking, because I've had these seedlings for almost a year now and their little strap leafs have folded over like how some seedlings of mine do when they're about to croak. I've been watering diligently and they are in sandy loamy fast draining soil. They've been under bright lights, but I had to move them for a day or two. Are they toast? :(

Fungus Gnat Invasion

Coming to you live from the frontlines.... I must have had a particularly nasty batch of soil, because I'm dealing with more gnats than I thought possible. It's currently week 4 of watering with neem oil drenches and the occasional spritz of Eight spray. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to combat these buggers? I'm going about 8 days between watering to let the medium dry but the population continues to grow.

Dypsis lutescens goes nuts. This is his first sucker. I looked at that a little more closely. I found in there six new leaves at least. I think I'll find even more leaves as they grow a little more.

Struggling Kentia Palm
by anyca- 12 replies

Hello everyone! Fairly new to taking care of a bigger palm, we have had our Kentia since summer last year. I'm turning to you all as I have no clue what's wrong with it even after hours of googling. It started with leaf tips and now it is whole fronds going. Initially we thought it was from overfeeding, but we have been washing it through for months and it keeps getting worse. Any idea what's wrong with this green baby and what we could do to save it?

Sabal palmetto seedling
by PlantDad- 12 replies

i have a Sabal palmetto seedling that my buddy shipped to me fr Florida and I have I have it in my bedroom for the winter. It could probably take the cold outside here in Keizer, Oregon zone 8b/9a but I wanted to keep it growing through the winter. Since I have had it it has put out 1 strap leaf and is now developing a leaf with splitting leaf margins. I am shocked by how fast it is now growing. The leaf that it is currently developing has gotten to where it is now in about a month. I keep a daylight led on it for 12 hours a day. I noticed that when I switched to a more warm white led as a way to alternate the lighting spectrum to provide more of a balanced lighting spect…

Bismarckia noblis

Hey Everyone! My neighbor brought me a Bismarck palm back from Florida. This is the first time I got one of these but always loved the look of those (one of my faves). I was wondering how soon I should re-pot this palm into something bigger. I believe it's in either a 5 gal or 7 gal nursery pot. I do have a ton of bigger ones (15 gal, 25 gal). I know that I live well outside this palms minimum hardiness zone but am sure I can grow it into a nice specimen overwintering it inside. Plus the window it is sitting in front of is facing south so winter placement is not an issue (sorry for the dark photo, got it last night and took picture of it to post when it was dar…

Licuala peltata Var. 'Sumawongii' AND Licuala peltata Var. 'Peltata'

For comparison purposes, I thought it would be interesting to view Licuala peltata Var. 'Sumawongii' AND Licuala peltata Var. 'Peltata' side by side. They are both similar in age so they present a pretty parallel comparison. I received the Var. Peltata in error when I mail-ordered the Var. 'Sumawongii' , but I kept them both and I rather like both their similarities and differences. The Var. 'Sumawongii' is pictured on the Left and the Var. Peltata is on the Right. Anyone have any photos of potted Var. Peltata? I'm curious to know how it will look several years down the road as a houseplant.

Issue with older Serenoa repens fronds

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if you could tell me what might be going on with my palm. It is still growing out of all of the shoots but some of the older fronds are turning black and shriveling. It started mostly after I brought it in for the winter. It has been inside for almost 2 months and has another 2 before it goes back out. Is this no big deal or is there something I can do? Thanks!

Phoenix

For a long time now, I am looking for a special type of Phoenix dactylifera. I have seen this variation in several locations in Spain, Marbella, Elche, Llorett de Mar and Torremolinos, but up to now I have not been able to find this palm in a nursery, not in Spain, not in Italy nor in France. Anyone of you ever seen this palm?

Kentia palms. Are they really good indoor palms? 1 2
by sashaeffer- 1 follower

Ok, have done searches both here in forums and online. Kentia palms (both species) are usually mentioned as one of the top 5 indoor palms to have. I have a "3 try rule" with palms and will throw in the towel after that but that generally is on species that have little known about them as indoor palms. Kentia palms are gorgeous but crazy expensive to buy here in Nebraska. I'm lucky in that even mail order or when I make road trips to California they are a dime a dozen and pretty cheap to buy. I have tried at least 10? times of various sizes. Some single, others 3/4 in a pot. When left outside in dappled light here in the summer they get very ample rain and…

Hello everybody. First of all, I want to introduce myself. I am a new member. My name is Dorian, and I am from France (that's why my english is not very good...). I live in the savoy region (south east of France, near Lyon). I am passionnate about palm trees for two years, especially Washintgonia palm trees. Here I want to share my experience by telling you about my three Washingtonia in pots. The first (the largest) was purchased in April 2019. It has flourished since then. But I don't know if it's a Filifera or a Robusta. I think it's a Filibusta but I'm not sure. The other two are botanical Filifera (Coachella Valley and Palm Canyon) purchased online from…
