I agree with @Harry’s Palms however it looks like underwatering and a little lacking in humidity. Try every now and then placing it in the shower giving it a good drink and this will also wash the dust away on the leaves, plants have what is called a stomata which is how they breath through their leaves, tiny microscopic holes, if the stomata are blocked with dust they can’t breathe correctly. Let the top two inchs of soil dry out before the next watering. Ifpossible every ow and then as well place your palm outside in a shaded area for a week or so to give it a spell from being indoors. The yellow tabuia I take it you have there. They go deciduous in my cool winter. Actually they are super cold tolerant. Fast growing and very pretty in flower. I had to eliminate my ones in the garden, one big mess of seeds by the thousands that germinated every where, and once they get that tap root in they are pretty hard to kill by pulling them out. In the end I had to use a herbicide, with a tap root that’s at least 2 feet long on small seedlings. Very pretty tree but not for my garden anymore.

That’s the one they fit into the tropical look category well. Super tough fast growing and easy to propagate. The one I have I just weeded them out from under the parent tree. A great easy tree and the fruit is quite tasty as well.

With winter almost over it’s time for the germinated seedlings to be potted up. I potted up two mid winter and they are doing well so they are showing signs of cool tolerance, being from Papua New Guinea it’s showing good signs for a subtropical climate. Time will tell how good a grower it is!

It will most likely live, trim of all the leaves and start to dig a trench around it, you don’t really need a great big root ball. But the odds of it surviving are pretty good.

They do have a cold tolerance, the one in Sydney is testament to that, i wouldn’t say blazing white frost but definitely cool tolerant. Indoors is an interesting way to grow one!

From seeds?

I haven’t got the memory space to remember the names of orchids, got to many palm names to remember! But shes a real beautiful flower.

I think for the PNW trachy hybrids really are the only option for bulletproof interesting palms. Who is Vic and how do I contact him to buy seeds?

I guess in the right setting they are pretty good. The only other palm that has the same look is the Normanbya, given a choice between the two the Normanbya is the winner. A healthy black palm is a real tropical winner of the two.

I have two of these and they're great, pretty carefree. I've been growing mine inside thus far but it seems they have decent cold tolerance as well.

They were so popular once, now just as common as syagrus romanzifollia, at the start of the foxtail boom it big money and poaching seeds from national parks, in the end they couldn’t control the whole debacle of the seeds and who had foxtails for sale. Now they have become boring in a sense!

@SCVpalmenthusiast unfortunately Lethal Bronzing / TPPD is still killing most of the Phoenix palms around here. I don't know if Canariensis are super susceptible or not, but I've seen a LOT of Sylvesters and Dactylifera dying in the area. I've seen two big Canaries die, but I can't say why. One has been malnourished for the past 25+ years, always half yellow with tiny fronds. The other was at a local nursery in a 100g pot, and just keeled over one day. It could have been anything, I guess.

Now entering day 59 since it last rained here. On Saturday it will be 2 months without any rain. It also reached 38C / 100 degrees F here and in London on Thursday, again... No surprise the wildfires have tore through residential areas again like in 2022, given how dry it is and the 38C / 100F temps. Quite a few houses destroyed. Wales is getting absolutely battered as well with homes destroyed there in multiple villages over the past 2 days. I just saw this image get posted from one of the fires in Wales forcing evacuations tonight...

@Handson777 welcome to Palmtalk! As Tracy said, a sago (Cycas Revoluta) won't damage a house's foundation. The roots are fairly small and not aggressive. Around here they are planted right next to houses, driveways and sidewalks, and the only issue is really frond clearance and (sometimes) a bunch of pups around the base being annoying. They do transplant easy. If you want it somewhere else I'd wait until fall to move it. I've moved 7 of them to my yard from various places, all of them with a couple of feet of trunk.

Looks great. The needles do fine in full sun in Oregon and grow faster. They do fine in shade as well and have a nicer look but it really slows them down. The Butias down here are typically blue with many more towards silver. I’m not sure if it has to do with the intense sun. I have three and purposefully planted one that looked more green and it seems to be holding it color. The blue ones color has been intensifying as they get larger. I think all those hybrid Trachys in the UK are really nice. Vic is able to ship seeds to the US so it might be a good idea to grab some while they’re available and fresh.

Miltonia regnellii var alba has adjusted to its new home in my garden. It's previous host, a guava tree, was extracted last Spring.

A line up of today's potential favorite but I just couldn't decide. Encephalartos blue arenarius, Encephalartos inopinus and Cycas multifrondis.

The good old excelsia, it’s been around a long time. Somewhat problematic after a few years in the garden. My solution to this problem is I cut them right back to just one stem and it sorts them right out real fast. Just one single stem will even have the most die hard palm nut asking what variety of licuala is that. It not only contains a problem child in the garden, you also get an interesting look about the garden.

Ooof heart breaking 💔 who knew loving palms could do this. Have you considered more cold hardy options like canariensis?
