Unintentionally Hilarious AI goof
by JohnAndSancho- 2 replies

I know there was an AI thread somewhere, anyway - I promoted a bot to take a photo of Sancho (and I did specify which Sancho btw) for a logo. Well, it used the wrong Sancho. And if you recognize this guy, congratulations you're a real one. If you don't recognize him, there was a character in the 90s cult classic movie Orgazmo whose name was Sancho, and literally everything he said was "I am Sancho." It's from the dudes who made South Park.

Hot Wheels?
by JohnAndSancho- 7 replies

Totally palm unrelated but before I post a bunch of stuff on Etsy, does anybody have any interest in Hot Wheels and other die cast cars? I went on a big kick years ago and I've got a storage tote full of them, still in their packages. My uncle also had tons and tons of them opened but mostly vintage and some sun faded but some stuff I've never seen. If you're looking for anything specific lmk and I'll go digging. I'm willing to part with anything that isn't a Toyota. Please delete if this isn't allowed.

Anybody knowledgeable on propane, specifically heaters? I guess Reddit should really be my first step but I trust most of y'all. Anyway I'm using an old propane heater to keep my grow room warm. A) it doesn't have an actual thermostat and b) the pilot light likes to go out. I've looked at replacing it, but even the new heaters that say they have a thermostat only have a knob, and the pilot light issue is probably due to age and sitting unused for god knows how many years. I really don't want to go electric due to the increased power bills. I've read I can get a thermostat similar to what's on my heat mats and wire that into a solenoid valve, but a) I'm kind o…

Workspace

So I'm slowly taking over this add-on to the house with my palm crap, and I'm feeling kind of almost bad about it. My late uncle - I mean, the diagnosis term isn't exactly PC to say anymore, so let's just say he was born premature before doctors knew how to handle the situation. He was a grown man with the mind of like, maybe a 6 year old. And he loved Hot Wheels and he'd take a hammer and nails and tie yarn in all of these intricate patterns, he'd go and rake leaves into a bunch of small piles and like, every pile was equal. Anyway nothing back here on these tables and stuff has been touched in 16 or 17 years. All of his cars are all laid out in patterns, and I need…

Plant labels?
by Foggy Paul- 1 follower

I see that quite a few of you have professional-looking plant labels, like you'd see in an arboretum. I made my own a while ago, but my handwriting is sloppy and the labels are too small to get in the entire plant name when it's long. They also don't seem to be holding up very well. Anyone found a source for these that doesn't cost as much as a small plant? Or have a good DIY method?

I want to build a Greenhouse
by N8ALLRIGHT- 7 replies

Just what it says. It's probably several years out but I'm thinking about it now. So does anyone have recommendations on kits or manufacturers for greenhouses. I've worked construction for close to 30 years so I will be installing it. Primarily interested in nicer looking greenhouses ( has to pass the wife's scrutiny) And if you have a greenhouse what do you like about yours or would have done differently. I'm in 6b and it will stand alone from the house. So any recommendations on heating are appreciated. I primarily like the powdercoated aluminum frame that has the glasshouse feel but it's early in the planning process. Real life costs plenty esp. w/ a family so we'…

Can't take the mini trucker out of a palm grower!
by JohnAndSancho- 0 replies
So, I'm a car guy. Specifically a mini trucker. There's some high dollar well built trucks out there, but a lot of them are just cobbled together and lots of zip ties and self tapping screws and Sawzall blades are involved. Anyway, the cable mounts for my grow lights in the back just don't hang low enough for sprouts and seedlings, so I found some 3 foot chains for hanging baskets laying around. Unfortunately they're not gonna fit the self tap/sleeve mounts, I gotta use hooks now. But the hooks won't attach to the mounts. Boom. 3 foot is excessive for the chain but I have like 5 feet of adjustability now. Unfortunately the drill is ancient,…

More eBay shenanigans
by JohnAndSancho- 16 replies

😑 So I am not going to make this political, but the situation with the tarrifs in the US is fluid and volatile and nobody knows what's what from one day to the next. If I see an item, and it says it's located in a US city, but the seller is actually based in another country, do I have to pay tarrifs and fees? My $5 scraper shovel says it was in California but the seller is based in China and I got no notifications, but when I tried to purchase another item, I got a message about fees and tarrifs, and I just noticed the seller from the spade shovel I ordered is in another country even though it says the item is in Detroit. I can't get a straight an…

Garden tools

Okie dokie. There's a lot of Bermuda grass in the front yard and I hate it and I may have said that once or twice. Anyway, come Spring I'm hoping to have lots of stuff to plant out. My cultivator fork aka the chicken claw is great for ripping it out of the ground, but will this be helpful to clean up the mess it leaves behind? Lowes has one for 3x the price. https://ebay.us/m/UJrUk9 This also looks like it'd be useful for chopping up the grass runners that creep onto the carport, almost like an 1800s edger.

These are all over a couple of the crepe myrtles just feasting on it. They're ladybug sized but I don't think they're ladybugs. Any concern? They fling right off and they're leaving little snot marks where I knock them off. Please tell me they love to eat and destroy Bermuda grass. Even if you're lying to me.

Personal milestone...
by JohnAndSancho- 8 replies

Ehhh. I wanted to say I don't post a lot of personal stuff on here, but I guess I kind of do, at least a little bit. But this one's kind of a big deal, and I didn't even realize it until I glanced at my phone in the middle of some family drama - but today marks 15 months since I've had a drink. I'm not putting that on here to seek praise or attention or anything, but I'm putting it out here to thank all of y'all for the donations, the advice, the knowledge, the pictures of your gardens, the pictures of your pets, and the personal conversations. I'm not saying it's everything, but it's helped. So thank you to all of y'all, and thank you to the mods and the IPS for bu…
