Hawaiian food?
by John in Andalucia- 16 replies
- 1.8k views
On Wednesday our CEO is taking us for a meal to celebrate us hitting a million last year. We're dining out locally, in Central London, close to the art gallery where I work. The choice of venue is called, 'Black Roe' and it's Hawaiian! I'm excited, to say the least. Would anyone care to recommend a dish from the menu for me, as a first timer to Hawaiian cuisine? The menu sounds fantastic: https://www.blackroe.com/ourmenus

Puerto Rican Pampered Feline

As many of you know, I am a retired veterinarian. Predictably I had always had multiple pets. However when I made a 7 year plan to retire and move to Puerto Rico I stopped adopting animals in Virginia. After arriving here in 2015 I realized that there were neighborhood dogs, no way to securely fence my 7 acres and the distinct chance I would need to relocate so did not add any pets. A few months after I moved to my larger farm here in 2017, hurricane Maria's visit plus plans for travel further postponed adding a cat or dog. Not long after the Biennial I planned a week long bike riding trip. The day before I met three other members of a PR plant society to c…

Jupiter's Great Red Spot
by Ed in Houston- 1 reply

Yep, there it is. The Great Red Spot is a persistent high-pressure region in the atmosphere of Jupiter, producing an anticyclonic storm that is one of the largest in the Solar System. Located 22 degrees south of Jupiter's equator, it produces wind-speeds up to 432 km/h (268 mph). Observations from 1665 to 1713 are believed to be of the same storm; if this is correct, it has existed for at least 357 years. It was next observed in September 1831, with 60 recorded observations between then and 1878, when continuous observations began. Telescopes and Astronomy

Living in a more rural area, I have very dark surroundings that seem to bode well for viewing objects in the sky and outer space. My girls and I enjoy sitting out at night and looking at different stars and constellations. While I've thought about it before, I think it's finally time to purchase a telescope to take it to the next level. I'm looking for suggestions on a decent telescope and any advice of what types of things I should really check out (stars, planets, moon, etc).I don't want the cheapest instrument but I also don't plan to shell out $1k just yet. Something fairly intuitive and easy to operate, with good optics that will keep the interest of my two daug…

Tiki carving

I dont know that this is technically a "tiki" but that word gets used for everything oceanic it seems. I tried a Polynesian design at first but I'm evidently not good at them. This was my first woodcarving project, I'd like to do more as time allows. I can't be the only one... who else carves tiki? Care to share?

Aquatic Habitat

I have an artificial pond and stream that is central to my jungle. I currently have goldfish, Japanese trapdoor snails (very small), water hyacinth, pickerel (Pontederia dilatata), some unknown temperate water lily...and some stringy moss that isn't too bad to maintain by hand. And some kind of rush. I'd like to add more plants and animals and turn it into more of a micro ecosystem. I'm looking at Peltandra virginica and tadpoles, will have to order both of these online I think. I am open to any and all suggestions. I'd like the frogs to stick around but the stream water moves quick, not sure how to set up a slow moving/stagnant area just for them. I had K…

Someone must be devoted to growing Colorado Blue Spruce or Hemlocks , etc , at their southern limits.... Do they run air conditioners on them during hot spells ? Do they seek out varieties more tolerant of heat ? Are they nuts like us ?

How to wipe out a windows hard drive?
by DoomsDave- 26 replies

I have an old computer I'd like to get rid of. Before I do that, I want to totally purge the drive of all my old data. Some of it is confidential. I understand that most deleted data can be recovered. Is there a way to prevent that? Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thoughts appreciated.

What do you think? Do you pull Clayton Kershaw after he strikes out 13, has no one reach base and still going strong, in 7 innings of perfection?... Tough call, but that's what Roberts did the other night... I really like Kershaw's attitude about it... He said it would have been nice, but he was in it to win a championship not the personal glory... A lot of guys would have thrown a tantrum, but he calmly went along with his mangers decision... Class act from a classy guy.. And great pitcher... Butch

** Before going any further, i do not advise anyone consuming " wild " Mushrooms w/ out first doing extensive research, and very technical proper identification** An interesting article related to a growing area of research involving the potential benefits of psycho-active Mushrooms. Once viewed with biased reservation, researchers are working to reverse the negative stigma often associated with this group of Fungi and further exploring the potential for new drugs and therapeutic applications that could be right under our noses. In the case of the Mushroom cited in the article below, potential new treatment options for pain relief, Epilepsy and Parkinson's Dise…
