Theres none in my area, the big chain stores pushed them out of business. It’s a bit like a florist shop, I see a few here and there pop up and they soon go out of business, a lot of that has to do with location and my location is a low income area, slowly changing it not overnight. The florist I see that do make it in bussiness are next to café coffee shops with that traffic and clients that buy flowers. I could open to the public and sit around week after week with the door open for bussiness and only get one customer a week, this is mainly due to the isolation of my property and nursery. Put that nursery in the right location and odds on it will survive. A bit like the florist shop. Alternatively run it as hobby and do the markets, I would have at least 500 customers or more per market walk past my stall of plants as opposed to sitting at home with one customer per week. The hobby is the go for those reasons mentioned above. Supply and demand but if there’s no demand, then I have to take my product to them and create that demand for them. They love water and fertilizer. The grass and weeds around it aren’t helping it establish any faster. Like someone else mentioned already, next year they will be tougher, especially any pups it puts out. I’m really surprised they are getting sun burnt.. it must be from not enough water for the young root system. Give it a chance next year. I planted some small ones last year that didn’t grow very tall but I planted late in the summer. This year the pups it grew went from the ground to being 12 feet tall in one growing season. Remove all the weeds and grass around it. Throw down some compost and a thick layer of mulch. It will do much better

Thanks again for your wealth of knowledge! My neighbor has one hybrid paloverde that has grown up to about 20ft tall if not more in a matter of about 7 years. He’s had some branches torn off from the storm and since has been doing a decent job of keeping it trimmed. His mesquite which I’m sure was not native was uprooted a few years ago. Funny how you mention Texas Ebony and Ironwood since those are 2 of the trees I tend to admire in other people’s yards. I chose the elm because of its low litter during most of the year until they drop their leaves in late winter. I’ve seen some really nice ones in the Oro valley area but have also seen the ugly ones that probably don’t get enough water. I’ll have to take the bad with the good and someday it might have to come down. I’m still not 100% sure if I’ll put the ramo there or the Dicho. The elm branches would someday interfere with the size of the Dicho but by then who knows if I’ll still be in this house LOL. The ramo was stuck in middle of the 10-15 other pots so might explain the elongation of the leaves searching for more light. I still have not made my way to Aridlands. I did notice he mentions in his website his Ramos are also from cuttings. He also mentions that he recommends them in pots here in Tucson. He’s probably talking to the average buyer who would not take the time/care to keep them alive in our climate. Thanks again for your experience and knowledge!

It could be they are just an older flush but as Steve mentioned, you can be proactive with the chelated iron for the next flush.

I need to invest in a Sawzall. I am still using a handsaw for most jobs and sometimes an axe for editing. Those are my Neanderthal genes coming through as Dana would say. I can learn though.

I dont have a pic of it before when it was yellow because honestly it was’nt the kind of thing you would take a pic of lol. Here is an older pic after a couple applications of chelated iron. The cool thing is the older leaves will turn green/blue and usually it stimulates a new flush.

I lost two trunking flamethrowers and a just-shy of trunking Oliviformis from three freezing nights - 24f, 28f and 31f. All were under canopy but the 30mph winds defeated everything. I will say the Oliviformis was the only one of the 3 that held a green leaf for about a month after, but perished from fungus as a result of the cold damage. Only Archontophoenix survivor was a 20ft Cunninghamiana, out of 4 species (most were smaller)

If anyone out in this part of the world catches wind of new bad bug alerts, post em' here.. ..That is what this thread is for For the moment, besides New World Screw Worm, there are a couple of other imminent threats for us to watch for.. Have / enjoy grass in your yard? This newly encountered mealybug from abroad will not be your friend. Final August update = ** Now up to 9 cases in Sonora... A very interesting note here as well: in last weeks update, the initial detection was made, " supposedly " closer to the Son / Sin. state line. In both updates this week, there is no grey dot ( = represents inactive cases on the map ) in that area. Instead, the " active " current hot spot appears roughly half way between the before mentioned state line, and the AZ / Son. border, Specifically in the Yecora / Maycoba region of Sonora.. At the same time, when looking through the full case descriptions list ( Below where the map is located on APHIS' website, there is no mention of the Sonoran detections.. Interesting......... Regardless, ..NWS = getting uncomfortably close to the borderlands. ....Beyond Sonora... - Total cases nearing 200 in both Chihuahua, and Durango... - Closing in on 300 in Coahuila... - Total case count now over 100 in Sinaloa.. - Nuevo Leon = Approaching 900 cases.... - Closer to home = TX added one case this week, bringing their total case count to 47 ...Only 3 of which were recorded thru all of August. Still intrigued no cases have turned up in wild animals though. WX pattern heading into September continues to look wetter for this side of Mexico / U.S. Southwest, with the potential for several tropical threats that could help disperse flies faster if one ( or more ) of those systems makes a solid run up the Gulf ( of CA ) / slams head on into central and /or northern Sinaloa, or Southern Sonora over the next 4 weeks. Will be watching how things evolve thru next month very closely.

Transwood is my favorite Woodii cross followed by Arewood. The Trans cross @Brian and I have is Trans x Lat. Agree though completely on the characteristic conundrum. Who knows. I’d imagine it has to do with both maturity and lineage. @Brian , here’s a few pics of my infant. Agree looks like L mariae to me. I was going to say re what’s wrong that there’s a dead stump of another in the back right so it looks like this group isn’t healthy and the one in focus might be the on the way out too.

Totally agree with that. You'll grow the Sabinaria regardless of whether you make your money back on it, because you enjoy the challenge and love the plant, if you happen to sell a few along the way the costs are slightly defrayed...but really it's irrelevant, because you'll do it anyway. Try explaining that to an accountant - their head would explode! That's the real strength of a small business based on a hobby - passion - and you've got it in spades Richard, so power on.

Check my post on chelated iron. I had a trispinosus that looked identical to that if not worse. I hit it with a few applications of chelated iron and it is throwing a beautifull true color flush now! Cant wait to cut off the old leaves.
