Different light gives different results, a nice chamaedorea klotzshciana certainly looks good in a bit of different lighting.

Two lovely ramsayi with a stack of seeds, I think they are about 35 years old.

I get viable seeds from my one, even volunteers. And this from just one single palm, both male and female flowers are on the same plant. So they will set viable seeds on their own.

Had -0.9C on Thursday morning, just two hours below 0. Bananas just have slightest bronzing along leaf midrib on some leaves. A.Alexandrae left completely unprotected for first time looks slightly mottled on some leaves. It really does not like sub-zeros at all, despite getting knocked every winter it now is about 20cm at base of trunk (planted as a tiny grade in 2020)

Do you happen to know the name of this cultivar, Tracy? The cutting I got in April from Hawaii has finally begun to leaf out. (Sorry for the out-of-focus photo; new phone whose focus feature eludes me.) The seller posted this photo: No cultivar name was mentioned. I’ve heard the white and yellow plumerias have the strongest fragrance. Hoping for a whiff of that intoxicating smell from mine anyway.

My two Sabal miamiensis have been flowering and producing seeds for a few years now. They had no adverse reaction to this year's cold.

This is one I’ve posted before, but it’s the first year the existing foliage survived the winter, and the most robust flush (8) to date. It’s a C. revoluta hybrid with bifurcated leaflets that I got from North Texas Cold Hardy a few years ago. (Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten the identity of the other parent.) It’s finally starting to look like something!

That's a good question. It certainly has persisted longer than I would have expected. That said, at least I've seen some form of precipitation each of the last 3 days. There's room for more, though.

Ross, I’ve never been able to get seeds to sprout from this palm and have never seen any volunteers. Seems the seeds are sterile. Virtually every other palm in my garden that fruits also produces seedlings here and there.

Side by side, one of my Encephalartos ituriensis which is not hardening it's flush while the Encephalartos whitelockii x sclavoi is still pushing it's soft flush. The wall is 6' high from the base.

Full sun is really too much sun for a lot of plants in the southern climes. Most plants at the massive Florida producers are grown under shade cloth. As for the hot pot issue, you have to physically block the sun from directly striking the sides of the pots. In nurseries, this is accomplished as each pot in a group protects the one behind it. The very front exposed pots can be painted white, can have other empty pots or boards put in front of them, or can be dropped into 1 size larger empty pots to insulate the valuable plants roots from overheating. Direct sun on a black pot without any protection can most definitely cook the roots and kill the plant. aztropic Mesa, Arizona

Ok. You go to any nursery and they have plants in black grower pots sitting on black poly fabric in full sun. I'm pretty sure I've cooked a couple plants that are on my patio (colocasia). It's hot. It's humid. The concrete is cooler since it's shaded. I have my watering regimen down, i know what needs more, what needs less, what i can use with just the hose (RO filter attached) and what i need to hand water with additives. I brought a struggling very expensive colocasia redemption back in the other day and the soil was HOT hot. I have one in the ground and it's doing great. Explain to me like I'm 5 why this works at nurseries and garden centers but i have issues. My full sun plants are on either chip board or cardboard and i soak that when i water, too. I'm also learning that there's a difference between "full sun" and "Mississippi in June with no clouds." If i had the money, I'd get some 4x4 posts and concrete and shade cloth. Even the bananas are starting to show signs of sunburn on older leaves and i water the piss out of everything every other day. I water until it runs out the bottom. Everything is still growing like crazy, so that's not an issue. The patio gets primarily evening sun so that shouldn't be an issue.

I've got a couple of Red Dacca that are DEFINITELY ready to be seperated and potted. I've also got a bunch of Alocasia Portora pups i need to seperate and pot. It's just been too hot to do anything and i haven't had any energy the past week.

Oh man i missed these. These are what i was waiting for.

Yeah that's the reason why I want one. I like the arching branches too and the fact that they attract tons of birds. C. obtusifolia has noticeably redder new growth than C. peltata. They do have the silver undersides too.
