Chamaedorea oreophila, (was C. monostachys)
by Darold Petty- 5 replies

This palm is considered the third most frost hardy, after C. radicalis and C. microspadix. Unfortunately in my very cool, humid microclimate the palm is afflicted by thrip. I gave away previous plants to a friend in a hot, inland area (Brentwood, CA) and the thrip problem went away, his palms are growing well. I purchased these three 1-gallon plants shown in the photograph as a second attempt to grow this species in my garden. They are mature, and two have flowerstalks. However they have been damaged by thrip also. I don't care to attempt to control the thrip with chemical pesticide so I offer them for free. The only condition is no shipping; you mus…

Hello all. I have some D lanceolata seeds that should be ripening up soon. These pictures are from the beginning of January. As you can see the seeds are still green and not ripe yet. When they are ripe, you are more than welcome to them. The only catch is that the tree is in Leilani Estates, Hawaii and I am not. So this is an offer for the local folks over there. Just send me a PM if you are interested and I will give you directions. Thanks.

Free seeds of reclinata x dactylifera
by Phoenikakias- 1 reply
I have another batch from this cross, actually a neighbouring inflorescence to the one, I had on purpose cross-pollinated, received apparently also dactylifera pollen. I made the mistake however to let the derived infructescence for to long hanging, which enabled an attack of seed borers. So fruits/seeds are not tradable but after disinfection I suppose that in a sutisfying number of seeds embryo has been saved and those seeds have good prospects to germinate. Only a small gesture from me to mitigate the sorrow of european growers because of expected or confirmed winter losses. Europe only for financial and phytosanitary reasons. Send me a PM with your address.

Free uncleaned seeds (fruit is about small regular grape size) of Gmelina philippensis. Isn't really a vine, more throwing out long arm branches. Best to look up online. Free mailing within US. Probably best not to ship this overseas because of the uncleaned fruit. Send PM if interested.

For anyone not in the US, international shipping has become a bit expensive, but I might consider it if there is some interesting seed offered in trade. -tom

Free Archontophoenix tuckeri seed 1 2 3

Howdyall: I have a fine crop of A. tuckeri seeds, and the ones I tested were all sinkers, that is, they didn't float, so they should germinate well. Here's a picture of one of the trees. It's about 25 feet (8m) tall, trunk is about 45 cm (18") across the base. The Shoe is 13" (32 cm) long. I have about a dozen in my garden. They make great canopy. They're fast, pretty all year round, don't hold dead leaves. They rustle in the wind. The specimen pictured was a 3 foot (1 M) tall 15 gallon in 2008. They will suffer cold damage below freezing 0 C, 32 F, but recover quickly if heat comes back. They HATE desert heat. They will grow well indoors…

Caryota no
by Chris Chance- 3 replies

I have this 15 gallon Caryota no. It's a little beat up but starting to grow well. I don't have room for it and probably won't do well in my area. If anyone is interested and can make a drive to Moreno Valley CA it's yours. I would like to see it in a good home and even had snow on it at one point so it deserves it.

I have a nice passel of Chamadorea glaucifolia seeds. Free for the asking! Please shoot me a private message with "free glaucifolia" in the subject line and I will mail them to you, Anywhere on Earth, including cold places. C. glaucifolia is a slender, single-trunked species with fine, gray-green leaves that will take sun but also grow well in the shade. Max height here in California is about 7 feet, though they might get taller. They're relatively hardy, though not as iron-clad as radicalis.
