	I'm in Santa Rosa, but could possibly meet up in a more central location.

	Next stop, Craigslist freebies, and after that, compost.

	I have a fair amount of these that are available. My preference would be shipping within the U.S., as international shipping costs have really gone crazy over the past few years. The mother plant is a beauty.

	I have a seasonal supply of a number of species of palm seed. I would prefer to give these seeds to someone who wants them, rather than haul them to the landfill.<br />

</p>

<p>
	I currently have 40+ Parajubaea cocoides seeds that need a home, plus a number of palms in bloom which will be producing seeds soon.<br />
	<br />
	Trees currently in bloom include:
</p>

<p>
	P. cocoides, 3 trees
</p>

<p>
	Brahea edulis, “Guadalupe palm”
</p>

<p>
	Nannorrhops ritchiana
</p>

<p>
	Wodyetia bifurcata "Foxtail"
</p>

<p>
	Chamaedoraea elatior "climbing bamboo palm"<br />
	<br />
	Chamaedoraea radicalis *schipii
</p>

<p>
	Butia odorata
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you want these seeds, or know someone in the Santa Barbara area who does, please let me know.

	I sprouted some seeds from store bought mangos. They're never gonna fruit here, they're taking up space. I'll have to check, I think I've got 3 or 4 left, they're Kent and Kieff (?), one was from an absolutely massive fruit the size of my damn head. Y'all want them, lmk and I'll get you a shipping quote. Otherwise they go in the Muck Hole. I think I have to bare root to CA and from what I've read these are grown for root stock. They're in 1g pots, they're not particularly happy about that, seeds have fallen off, sprouted in January.

	Free to a good home. Had no idea it would get this large! You’ll need to dig and move it. About 2.5 feet wide and tall. It’s the aloe in the foreground near the sidewalk.  I would put it in my hellstrip but the leaves are fragile and break easily.<br />

	Needing to make some space, and this butia hybrid turned out to be mostly, if not entirely, butia. A beautiful palm, but I need the space for something else. I am game to help you dig, would be a simple task as long as you steer clear of the neighboring agaves (lots of spines!). Soil is very loose, sandy loam. You can cut right through it like cutting through butter.

	Four pairs of healthy Phoenix roebellini / Pygmy Date palms (8 palms total) currently have a date with a chainsaw. <span class="ipsEmoji">😢</span>
</p>

<p>
	Thought I’d offer them here in case someone wants to rescue them. I’m in Carlsbad (North San Diego County). Another palmtalker was interested, but the logistics didn’t work out.
</p>

<p>
	These are mature palms, already planted when we bought the house in 2007. They were transplanted once many years ago (from backyard to front), so digging *might* be a little easier than if they’d never been moved—but they’ve been in place for a while, so not sure on that one.
</p>

<p>
	The deal: You do the digging. My husband can help move them to your truck, and the smaller plants around them would be removed in advance for easier access.
</p>

<p>
	Hard to get a good pic, but here’s a few of them. There are 8 total, in pairs of 2…
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/uploads/monthly_2026_02/IMG_5343.jpeg.a936c5575178359a1180c28de4c48685.jpeg" data-fileid="620256" data-fileext="jpeg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="620256" data-ratio="75.00" width="1024" alt="IMG_5343.thumb.jpeg.a9f8e4c088e8e79012267f212cc30f33.jpeg" src="https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/uploads/monthly_2026_02/IMG_5343.thumb.jpeg.a9f8e4c088e8e79012267f212cc30f33.jpeg" /></a><br />
	<br />
	And here’s a ChatGPT interpretation of them in early March if no interest…

</p>

<p>
	It’s a bit sad to cut healthy palms, but something’s got to give to make room for the more exotic stuff. PM if interested in them.

	I can attest to the cold hardiness of these. They've seen single digits. They've seen snow they've seen ice they've seen triple digits. I don't know how long they've been there, and I left PLENTY. I dunno the legality of this, but I can always tell the cops they're just gonna sprout up and get mowed and the landscapers are just gonna cut. Anyway I've got more than I can ever use, I'm already sending off 2 baggies of them and should still have plenty. Pay postage and I'll send you some. I can get more.

	Tell me how many you want and pay postage. I don't want to count, so let's go from "handful," "a little bit," or a pile. I've still got some Minor too, all of these were collected locally from short and stumpy Palmettos. They've seen temps anywhere from 9° to triple digits, snow, ice, drought, monsoons, pretty much everything except fire and earthquakes.

Also, I haven’t had much luck with germinating them myself even though they seem to be growing well in the ground. Ideally, I would like to send 1 or 2 packages at most. I believe that I have around 40-50 seeds. PM me if you are interested.

<p>
	The palm below has been in my garden since about 2004, when I got it as a 15 gallon. It's now about 10 feet tall.
</p>

<p>
	This is a great species for those PalmTalkers who must contend with heat and cold. It's native to Argentina, where it experiences both. If you're in the Mediterranean region in Europe, England, maybe even Holland, these are worth a try in the ground. Likewise in the Southeastern US where a lot of cool palms are marginal; South Carolina, and southern Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Northern Florida. Try them in West Texas, Arizona. They will take cool, too, in British Columbia, northern California, coastal Oregon and Washington.
</p>

<p>
	And, anywhere else in world you want to try some!
</p>

<p>
	All seeds will be cleaned and posted at no charge to recipients, in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
</p>

<p>
	I have HUNDREDS. Ask and ye shall receive!
</p>

<p>
	PM me your full mailing address, with "Free Trithrinax seed" in the message. After I've accumulated some requests, I'll send them out, likely after New Year's Day.

	I have a few seedlings and small palms that I am willing to give away to anyone in or passing through the San Antonio area. I am not interested in shipping anything right now.
</p>

<p>
	First up, I have I sabal I bought as a S. causiarum. It does grow more quickly than palmetto or mexicana, but it took damage in the ground last winter at 27F and burned 100% at 23fF. So, I am not sure if it is actually causiarum.

	And a fishtail I grew from seed. It won't last the winter here. This post will take a bit of patience.<br />
	<br />
	Hi folks, I’m in an … <em>interesting</em> situation. I have recently taken over caring for my father, Barry Osborne’s, extensive palm tree collection in Santa Barbara. Dad pretty much gave up on it 10 years ago do to failing health, and when his elaborate drip irrigation setup began to fail, Mom had some gardeners put in sprinklers.<br />
	<br />
	This is Santa Barbara. The water bills are immense. I am slowly re-establishing the drip irrigation system and phasing out the sprinklers. But.<br />
	<br />
	There are dozens of palm tree seedlings and some good-sized volunteers which have come up in the watered area over the past decade. Once I shift over to drip, these volunteers will die from lack of water. I have moved a half-dozen to pots, most of the rest are still in the ground.<br />
	<br />
	Unfortunately, I have only been able to positively identify 3 of the volunteer species: Butia odorata, Parajubaea cocoides, and Copernicia alba. The rest are unknowns, some King palms and quite a few Brahea (species unknown).<br />
	<br />
	I am looking for homes for these palms. I’d like to get a bit for the larger potted plants, since they took a lot of work to get up, and I need to keep funding the drip irrigation shift. I’m asking $50 each for the P. cocoides, and $20 each for the C. alba and the unknown king palms. The ones still in the ground you are welcome to come dig up for free, just bring your own pot(s) and clean up after yourself.<br />
	<br />
	There are a good dozen tiny P. cocoides volunteers, as well as an 8 foot (trunk is 16”, tallest leaf over 8’) cocoides that I would love to get rid of but do not want to dig up.<br />
	<br />
	There are a similar number of C. alba volunteers, some quite large.<br />
	<br />
	There are a half dozen B. odorata volunteers in a bed where they cannot stay.<br />
	<br />
	There are innumerable tiny volunteers everywhere that are too small to ID.<br />
	<br />
	Barry Osborne had one of the most extensive rare palm tree collections in the U.S. The Roystonia regia is especially admired, as is the massive Chilean wine palm (<span><em>Jubaea chilensis).</em></span> At one point he was able to document over 800 endangered species in his yard, in order to procure an exemption from a water moratorium. His place was visited by palm enthusiasts from around the world for several decades.<br />
	<br />
	If you are interested in any of the potted palms listed, or if you would like to come dig up some of the unpotted trees, or even if you just want to see the collection, text me, Sean, @ 828-674-3886.
