Hi all, Thought I’d share some photos I took of the amazing collection at SBG recently. Some very rare species not really seen elsewhere and all grown to perfection. My photos really don’t do the palms justice when you see them in person. Saribus tothur Licuala cordata Licuala fordiana Maxburretia gracilis Maxburretia furtadoana Areca mandacanii Hydriastele flabellata Silver form Hydriastele splendida Licuala malajana var malajana Lanonia sp. not dasyantha. OBX native Sabal minors, naturalized palms

Took a trip to the Outer Banks last week. I was very interested in seeing the native population of Sabal minor in Hatteras. They were growing EVERYWHERE! It amazes me how adaptable this species is growing in swampy understory, exposed dry sites, and close to the beach. I also found naturalizing Sabal palmetto and unexpectedly a few Trachycarpus fortunei growing wild right along the marsh boardwalk in Buxton Woods Natural Area Preserve. I don't know how they got there I didn't find any T. fortunei planted nearby but they were growing in shady understory in a natural area. Very palmy place has anyone else found naturalizing Trachys or could confirm if this is indeed the sta…

Barcelona Botanical Gardens To be honest, but not my favorite botanical garden. It was pretty underwhelming but they did have some palms. They did have Phoenix ibérica, which I really thought was interesting. I probably wouldn’t go out of your way to visit this garden if your goal is to see palms, but that is just my take. Jardins de Mossèn Costa i Llobera Insanely beautiful and felt like a desert oasis with Mediterranean sea views. Very palmy with a good succulent selection as well

I have been residing in Spain for a bit and a few weeks ago I had the chance to take a weekend trip to Lisbon, Portugal and check out the gardens there. These are from mid march. I hope you guys enjoy This is Butia capitata. A palm I actually never saw before in person until now. A lot of palms labeled at B. capitata in the Southeast US are actually B. odorata. They both look similar. An unmarked Sabal. Not sure what this one might be. Sabal palmetto what we all know and love lol. Someone pointed out that this might be a mi…

Gulf Waters RV Resort | Port Aransas, TX

In October I took a few days trip to Port A and enjoyed every minute of it! The people who rent out these lots did a fantastic job on their landscaping it gives the park a very palmy, private and relaxed vibe. Each lot has its own unique set up and landscaping, mine had a pond side cabana. This park is right by the gulf with convenient boardwalk aces that can accommodate golf carts, the beach is rarely busy at this location. There is also a nice pool in the park. I just love this beach-side paradise right here in Texas. 🏖️ 🌴

We went on a trek to Cape Tainaro which I think is the southernmost tip of continental Europe. Beautiful place and some nice flowers. Euphorbias are in their best right now. Enjoy!

Palms of Key West, documentation

I've only posted on here once and had a fantastic experience with feedback from so many great people. Part due to that experience, also mostly because of friends here in Key West and the shared experience with my wife, we've been bitten by the palm bug. Living in Key West helps of course. So I'm blending my tech knowledge with newly found love of palms and putting together a website to document the various rare palms in Key West (to include Stock Island and Key Heaven). I have several people here willing to contribute to the identification and documentation and I'm putting together the structure and function of the website. Visitors would be able to search by palm ty…

spain Palms of Málaga Park, Spain ( Parque de Málaga )

During my recent trip to Spain, in addition to visiting the city of Valencia, I also had the chance of going to Málaga, an ancient seaside city located in the Andalusian region, in very south of the country, on the famous shores of the Costa del Sol . One of the many highlights of my trip there was going to see the 'Central Park" of Málaga, called ' El Parque de Málaga ' - also called Alameda Park ( Parque de la Alameda or just "El Parque" (the Park)). I was told by my friend ( who lives nearby in the city of Marbella ) that there were many palm species planted there that I would be interested in seeing. So during my time in Málaga, I set aside a whole after…

Lemonade Travel 1 2

I know lots of us are doing our best to use nonrefundable flights and creating adventures for the time we had hoped to be in New Caledonia. When life gives you lemons, as with the unavoidable New Cal trip cancellation, I see us as making lemonade. Many IPS members have offered advice and even lodging and transportation. My trip began with 4 flights to get from my rural mountain home in Puerto Rico to the ultramodern airport LAX. I was picked up by Andy Hurwitz and provided with every comfort. He and his wife Arlene were wonderful hosts and I enjoyed seeing their charming neighborhood and much more. I was gifted with tours of p…

I'm working in Savannah now. Palmettoes are so common they seem boring here. Very weedy. But go a few hours north, and palmettoes seem like a luxury. Anyway, here are a few pics: Dioon, probably not edule. The leaflets are several inches long. Camellia giganticarpa Castanopsis fissa with big leaves grevillea robusta

We'll be driving over three days from Melbourne to Sydney later this month and I'm curious to know where to see Livistona australis and Archontophoenix cunninghamiana in their southernmost habitats along the way. Any towns you'd recommend we stay in nearby? Murramarang National Park looks promising. Which parts have palms? Cabbage Tree Creek Flora Reserve looks like the place to see the southernmost livistonas. Where might be a good town or village to stay in near there? Thanks, Jason
