Surprised the claim wasn't, 'Risk of Falling Coconuts'. Usually writers have zero topic knowledge.

Here is an update, my Royal grew until may and died today my maximas are doing well my mango and starfruit and Barbados cherrry survived. My big coconut grew 4 new frawnds in 2 months everything is doing well. I’m just scared for this winter. Plus all my other coconuts very found around Jacksonville at random nurseries or gifts. Or found in south florida

Well here’s the thing. If Dowes description is 100% correct, Archontophoenix cunninghamiana has ramenta on the midrib. His description doesn’t say - sometimes absent. So maybe we are looking at an undescribed species due to that one thing, or, it is Archontophoenix cunninghamiana without ramenta. Either way is purely an academic discussion. Probably worth further investigation. It’s pretty cool though.

looks like it just got a bit of rot on it. I think you did the right thing with the H2o2 as it looks like it's pushing through the rotten bit.

Not exactly in Texas but I think it’s remarkable that this row of coconuts along the mainland portion of Daytona FL survived 23-24° earlier this year . Even a few Christmas palms are coming back . 😱

My Chrysalidocarpus Jurassic Park was showing some spear damage as it began to emerge. I posted it a while back and my friend Tom in Vista suggested possible banana moth damage. Fast forward to now and that spear is opening prematurely with clear damage. The spear is easily 4 feet shorter than prior leaves asas they began opening. Damage is also visible to the next spear that will push out. I have traded ithe growth point with hydrogen peroxide and a fungicide a few times over the last several weeks. Any other recommendations?

That is a multi so it’s gonna need a pot with ant least about 2-3” out , all around and at least that much more depth. If you were successful with the last one , you should be fine with this one . I use a sandy loam potting soil and mix in a bit of perlite to assist with drainage . I put medium sized , smooth pebble at the bottom of the pot before adding soil . This helps with drainage . I have never had P. Roebelini get fussy on me from repotting or transplanting . They are pretty tough palms. They do grow rather fast and have quite the root system. So be prepared to repot from time to time. Harry

I like the Zamia vazquezii because of the specific leaflets. But the plant in the photo's seems to like to produce cones, where I would like it to produce a new flush of leaves. Any advice on how I cabn persuade it to start producing leaves?

I have found a lot of pindo seeds and sabal palmetto seeds, although the palmettos seem like they are not ready to fall yet, so they start to become available later in the fall, in numbers that are baffling. But I was wondering if anyone would want to trade some other types of seeds for them in the near future. RIght now I have about 50 butia capitata seeds that have been cleaned and are ready to germinate and I am germinating about another 60 or so. I'm new to this but I was wondering if anyone wants any of them, maybe to trade for other seeds, and if I should germinate them or send the seeds out as seeds. I definitely don't have room for 50-100 pindo /sabal palmetto palms so would love advice and any thoughts. I would love to grow some other types of palm trees as well.

So my friends Wodyetia is fruiting again . The seeds ended up at my door step . I moved them to the side of the house where they will be cleaned . Harry Seeds Gromet! It amazes me the size of these. He said it was raining apples in his front yard. I told him to wear a helmet. Not like coconuts but would seriously be a bonk on the head. 😂

Apart from seeds of desert spp like Hyphaena, which have a legendary longevity, my experience with other kinds of palm seeds has been 100% negative. Out of 6 tried spp (5 spp tried by me as direct buyer) I had 0 success in germination. And I use a very advanced propagator for the germination. Speaking of the longevity of Hyphaena seeds, I had brought once to germination a seemingly dried out fruit sold as herb for a kind of tea. .

Yours lean filifera, given the leaf color, density of leaves in the crown, and the crease forming in the apex of the leaf. @jwitt has probably the best eye for distinguishing each. He travels quite a bit about the colder geographic limits of the species in the US.

I am facing very recently a similar problem with this enterprise. It's been a month since placement of order and payment in advance and I still have nothing sort of notification about shipment and, imo far worse, no reply to inquiry messages. It may by of interest that money transfer ended up in ... Vilnius! Vilnius is is the capital of Lithuania. The whole set up does not look regular. I strongly suggest, that any potential client rather skip this enterprise.

Hi all! long time listener, first time poster. I recently acquired another pygmy date palm, to be grown outdoors during the growing season and brought inside for the winter. I'm in the southwest Ohio area, zone 6b. My question is in regards to repotting this late in the season. Usually, we can get reliably warm temps (especially during the day) until about early/mid ish October. Now, this nursery pot does only have side drainage holes, so i made sure to cut 4-5 holes with pruning sheers into the bottoms. The plant doesnt look horribly root bound on top, though, as you can see, it does have some escapees on that shown drainage hole exclusively and some aerial roots just below the trunk. Is now (mid/late august) too late to be repotting these guys? Is it even necessary based on the info? I understand they're generally okay being root bound to an extent. I bought one earlier in May, repotted immediately, and it has thrived this summer. Would love some tips, dos or dont's for repotting as we begin to near the end of the growing season here. Thanks! This forum has been a godsend. Long time palm fan, this is the first season i've ever bought one.
