Areca mandacanii and linospadix minor get planted
happypalms posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEA nice Areca and linospadix go into the garden. The mandacanii is a rather intriguing looking palm. Not a lot of pictures out there of this one. And the good old Australian palm the linospadix minor is a sure winner for any garden. Two more great collecter palms worthy of any garden. - Today

So What Caught Your Eye Today?
happypalms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEA reasonable growth rate, not a rocket ship but definitely a good paced growing palm, considering how slow some palms can be. Ten years time you will have a nice solid palm to look at with a bit of trunk if growing under good conditions. -
So What Caught Your Eye Today?
Palms1984 replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThat’s a beautiful palm! I hear they grow fast to very fast. My friend has an 8 or 9 year old Ravenea gluaca and it’s about 15 ft tall. I have a 29 year old Ravenea madagascariensis ‘Monticola’ which looks very similar to R. glauca.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?
Palms1984 replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEWow! 90 mph winds are extremely strong! That would shread, dissicate and probably kill many of my plants. Yikes! luckily, where I live the winds are very rarely over 40 mph. I know in eastern San Diego County they have Santa Ana winds that are that strong and sometimes stronger.

Worsleya procera Empress of Brazil
happypalms posted a topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsA nice purchase that arrived today in the mail the Brazilian worsleya procera. The blue hippeasteum. I don’t know a lot about it, but being a hippeastrum it should be fairly standard growing. Time will tell but it’s an interesting plant. I first seen them in Sydney royal botanical gardens. And from that day on the hunt was on for one. -
Some rare cycas scratchleyana seeds
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsI was lucky enough to get hold of 100 seeds sent in two different batches. The batch I put down in the first month of winter are germinating now just in the hothouse. No bottom heating needed, even in winter they are germinating. Definitely a good sign! -

For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"
kinzyjr replied to SubTropicRay's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEAlmost two-thirds of the way through the month and my rain total sits at ~1.5in. Follow that up with more than a week of days in the high-90s and the grass that isn't getting any shade is starting to wilt. -

UK spring/summer 2026
Phil Petersen replied to UK_Palms's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATELooks horrific for anyone trying to grow anything. Might see more farming irrigation in the future, or a change to drought resistant crops. If this carries on growers will have to adapt or face going broke. Hope you guys get more friendly weather soon.
