Foxtail update #1
Hu Palmeras replied to PlantsEnjoyer's topic in PALMS IN POTSIt’s beautiful, my friend. Make sure you have a good growing medium: humus, pine bark, peat moss, and perlite, plus fertilizer. Mix all of that with leaf mold. That way, you’ll have great-looking palms. -

What is your current yard temperature?
Silas_Sancona replied to GottmitAlex's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATE106F + 63deg Dew Point, yields a current real feel of 115F at 10:58AM under hazy skies, as we wait to see if " today is the day " for the first decent storms of the season here in the valley.. Morning Sat. Check: Some isolated storms passing just to the south late last night, after a pretty good duster around 9PM. Today's Spinny, mesocale -level thingy, spinnin' squarely over coastal San Diego County = the left overs of another big night for storms across N. Sonora / borderlands of AZ. Sprinkle or two under all that cloudiness stretched out across the rest of CA atm.. Upper level flow over AZ = Better east to west flow across the state than yesterday ..which should help get storms into the valley, rather than steering them more toward the southwest.. Some bulidups starting to fire over the White Mtns / across S. NM already as well.. Whether or not they result in a nice soaking in one's back yard or not, dead center under the " slight " risk category today, = today's storm prospects look decent.. ..W/ Wind and duster day #2 likely being the biggest hazard. Don't count out the rain though.. More than enough moisture in the air for some dumpers, ..if your house, neighborhood, ...or section of the valley lucks out. -Fingers -Crossed. - Today

Floribunda Palms Summer 2026 Price List Update
Floribunda Palms posted a topic in For SaleFloribunda Palms & Exotics Summer 2026 Price List Update Suchin Marcus with Joey altifrons We are excited to refresh our price list for the peak growing season with some new species and updates that we hope you'll enjoy. Thank you for supporting our mission of improving biodiversity in ex situ plantings and preserving these beautiful and rare plants; we have some exciting garden updates. Adonidia dransfieldii A rare cousin of the famous Adonidia merrillii, this species from Borneo is starting to make its way into cultivation, bouncing back from the first discovery of 14 plants in 1998. We are thrilled to be a part of that conservation effort, and now you can be too! Hyophorbe vaughanii Another critically endangered showstopper cousin of famous landscaping palms (the 'bottle' and 'spindle' palms), this palm has been a labor of love to bring to cultivation. While conservation efforts in Mauritius are underway, the number of plants in the wild is shockingly low. Looking for this species for sale online has gone from an impossible task to a reality! Chelyocarpus ulei This gorgeous palm has started to produce prolific amounts of fruit and grows well, so we are currently able to supply it in commercial quantities. It makes a great statement in the garden and has the beauty of a pinwheel leaf palm, without the thorns. Geonoma atrovirens Almost every palm enthusiast has the same reaction when they see this species in the garden: "What is that, and how do I get it?!". As a flagship palm at Floribunda, we are happy to say that it is back on the list, add this holy grail palm to your nursery / garden today! Garden update We are deeply humbled and forever grateful to Royal Botanic Gardens,Kew and Aarhus University for their effort and collaboration in describing two new species of Chrysalidocarpus from the garden. You may recognize these species as they have been for sale for some time, but "sp. 'bef'" and "sp. 'Dark Mealy Bug'" are now officially described as Chrysalidocarpus comptus and Chrysalidocarpus marcusorum, joining the list of legendary palms that have been named with the help of garden material at Floribunda. Read the paper co-authored by Paola De Lima Ferreira, John Dransfield, Wolf L. Eiserhardt, and William J. Baker below to learn everything there is to know about these mysterious species: https://phytotaxa.mapress.com/pt/article/view/phytotaxa.758.3.1 All these and many more, including two new Zamia species, one of which is the rare Zamia inermis. https://floribunda.xyz/pricelist Joey altifrons, Metroxylon amicorum, Euterpe sp. Adonidia merrillii died
BobFL posted a topic in FREEZE DAMAGE DATAIn 2022, our home builder planted a triple Adonidia merrillii on the corner of our new house in Indian River County, Florida (zone 10A). The 2025-2026 winter cold was too much for it and it's not coming back. Next to the palm is a plant with large red leaves (Acalypha wilkesiana aka Copperleaf) and some smaller varigated shurbs. These are doing well. We cut back the Acalypha every year and it springs back up to 5 feet high. In the photo, you can barely see the tops of the Acalypha. What do you recommend as a replacement palm for the Adonidia that's more cold tolerant? It's 6 or 8 feet from the corner of the house, so it can't be anything too big, but needs to be higher than the Acalypha. Thank you!

Post pics of unpollinated palm fruits on infructescences
Phoenikakias replied to Phoenikakias's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI have a real date palm, producing and maturing real dates. A good portion of almost mature dates is aborted just before full maturity. Although those fruits are soft, they are not tasty at all and their seeds never germinate. -
Chamaedorea cataractarum
Phoenikakias replied to gyuseppe's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEGiuseppe, I knew what you were meaning. . And it is true and pretty moving. -

gyuseppe replied to Phoenikakias's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEKonstantinos, it's normal for some fruit to fall before it ripens, but does it depend on why they are sterile?

IrishPalm22 replied to sped94's topic in COLD HARDY PALMSShe’s alive and starting to grow back rapidly by Irish standards… winter low was low-end 10a at the location on the sea coast, and mid zone 9 in Cork City, now we are in a “heat wave” in Ireland, should look more presentable by the end of our short maritime summer.Barbthumb joined the community- Coconut palm
Carlo,Angri replied to Carlo,Angri's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEGuys, my coconut palm is unfortunately dead. It had grown well at the beginning, then I discovered the red palm weevil here too.- Chamaedorea cataractarum

Phoenikakias replied to Phoenikakias's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEBump, a grand one! In the genus Phoenix frequently all three carpels of an unpollinated flower develop to a star like empty fruit that rarely, if ever, reaches maturity. When Phoenix flowers gets pollinated all three carpels are merged to one single oval shaped fruit. Whether latter is efficiently or adequately pollinated is a different story.- Chamaedorea cataractarum
gyuseppe replied to gyuseppe's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEyes Harry, making them from seed and taking care of them is like raising animals, after all plants are also living beings
PlantsEnjoyer changed their profile photo- Foxtail update #1
PlantsEnjoyer posted a topic in PALMS IN POTSHello :) , Just an update of my Foxtail palm that I've been growing it since 3 years ago. Few months ago, I transplanted this palm from a plastic gallon that I've been using it to grow this palm, I felt like the gallon was too short, so I moved it into a taller polybag. Also, the recent place was too dark for this palm to grow, that's why it only have few leaves for 3 years. Now It has already pushed another new bright green frond! I am hoping it will be growing faster than before!- Recent Travels in Indonesia
PlantsEnjoyer replied to Daryl's topic in TRAVEL LOGS@Daryl Welcome to Indonesia again! Wow, I am really amazed on how you took the pictures, it really looks like paintings, its so incredible! If I may know, what kind of camera did you use to capture all of these pictures?- Just a spot of landscaping for the new palms
