BobFL posted a topic in FREEZE DAMAGE DATAIn 2022, our home builder planted a triple Adonidia merrillii on the corner of our new house in Indian River County, Florida (zone 10A). The 2025-2026 winter cold was too much for it and it's not coming back. Next to the palm is a plant with large red leaves (Acalypha wilkesiana aka Copperleaf) and some smaller varigated shurbs. These are doing well. We cut back the Acalypha every year and it springs back up to 5 feet high. In the photo, you can barely see the tops of the Acalypha. What do you recommend as a replacement palm for the Adonidia that's more cold tolerant? It's 6 or 8 feet from the corner of the house, so it can't be anything too big, but needs to be higher than the Acalypha. Thank you!

A good portion of almost mature dates is aborted just before full maturity. Although those fruits are soft, they are not tasty at all and their seeds never germinate. -

In the genus Phoenix frequently all three carpels of an unpollinated flower develop to a star like empty fruit that rarely, if ever, reaches maturity. When Phoenix flowers gets pollinated all three carpels are merged to one single oval shaped fruit. Whether latter is efficiently or adequately pollinated is a different story.

PlantsEnjoyer posted a topic in PALMS IN POTSHello :) , Just an update of my Foxtail palm that I've been growing it since 3 years ago. Few months ago, I transplanted this palm from a plastic gallon that I've been using it to grow this palm, I felt like the gallon was too short, so I moved it into a taller polybag. Also, the recent place was too dark for this palm to grow, that's why it only have few leaves for 3 years. Now It has already pushed another new bright green frond! I am hoping it will be growing faster than before!

Before it was a rocky tough place you were doing well if you could dig a planting hole, that’s why I originally planted the dioon nothing else would live there. So dry and barren part of the garden that had been like it the entire gardens life right from the beginning, amazing what time does, and what a bit labour can do some 27 years later I finally got around to doing something about that part of the garden!
