They’re also made out of aluminum, and while I realize that can too corrode, I don’t think it’s normal that this happened already. The roofer said he will fix the spot and report to the manufacturer.

I’m envious of your climate. Clinostigma samoense I think has no cold to cool tolerance but you gotta try hey. Or it could be just that one individual. If you own the property you live on, then plant it although they do get big, it will take more than a lifetime before it becomes a problem. Or you could donate your tree to a botanical garden in your area and that way it will live on, and be for everyone to share such a beautiful tree.

They grow great in Phoenix you can’t get much hotter and drier than that!!! Hard to get a picture in the jungle!!

Yeah, I bought them from bellamytrees.com about 2 years ago. I don't think they sell them anymore. They do seem pretty adaptable. Mine have done well indoors although they do appreciate a lot of water. I want to plant them outside eventually but I don't know if I have enough space. Here's the larger of the two plants I have. The leaves are about a foot long and deeply corrugated and spiny. Attractive bark as well, it's light brown with papery reddish bronze strips.

I must be a masochist because I saved several seedlings. My 3 single Roebeleniis are almost too tall to manage. I figured that I would just grow replacements. Now I’m not sure if I will even keep them.

Why would you want to grow sabal minor? Most of the people who grow it have few other hardy options. You could also choose a small brahea that loves your climate.

He's right, I live outside of Kansas City,in a semi rural area. Late April to early May when these dudes come out it's insane,I even had one fly in my mouth when I was a boy while riding a bike. I don't much care for them, but I don't hate them either. Anyways never seen any issues whatsoever in 40+years of living in the area. It's either a manufacturer defect or improper installation.

I just happened upon this article published this past April, documenting the rediscovery of a species of Ravenea not definitively documented since its original description in 1927. The species is Ravenea latisecta, and there have been a few possible sightings in the ensuing 99 years, although apparently virtually all of these were misidentified, most turning out to be R. robustior or R. madagascariensis,. According to the article, there are no documented specimens in cultivation. So this is apparently quite a find and gives some hope for other species that have been "hiding" while presumed extinct. Depends where you are. Moist soil might not be bad if you have consistent 100 degree days. No pics but sounds distressed. I use moon juice when I transplant trees to encourage root growing and help reduce shock.

I’ve got some Veitchia arecina, the oldest being about 12 years old and is way overhead. However, it’s never flowered. Then I have another one that is about eight years old and has decided to flower like crazy. It’s pretty cool because the flowers are right at eye level.

Iron deficiency is characterized by yellowing of new growth. Overwatering causes a low oxygen soil and iron deficiency. My expectation with foliar feeding is that the non waxy leaves are the ones that will absorb it, not waxy leaves like alfredii. I might try to limit the sunlight if it gets more than 4 hrs direct sun and increase watering interval a little and see if it greens up in a few months. Overwatering in pots leads to more limpness in the leaves. Foliar sprays have limited absorption into the leaf but they have worked OK for me on non palms. The highest penetrating fertilizer into the leaf is N2 dissolved in rain as its a small, nonpolar molecule that readily passes protective lipid membranes. Obviously I dont know all the history of your palm or even the soil it is in. If there is a drain hole in the bottom of the pot it should get somewhat dry before the next watering. Not sure I could do any better in Germany, its way out of habitat conditions there. Remember that adding different micronutrients separately can lead to a deficiency if they are at ratios that change the competition for uptake. For example calcium, and Mg are chemically similar in the same family so they can compete and typically palms prefer 3:1 calcium:magnesium. If it were 1:1 calcium:magnesium, calcium uptake would be negatively impacted and if it were 10:1 Ca:Mg, Mg uptake would be limited. This is why I don't add individual micros, just formulations of them for palms. [1, 2, 3] Deep Planting: Palms planted too deeply place the root ball below the oxygen-rich soil layer, preventing proper root respiration. [1, 2] Root Rot Diseases: Fungal pathogens destroy active root surface area, drastically lowering the plant's ability to intercept and absorb iron. [1, 2] Overwatering / Waterlogging: Excess water displaces soil oxygen and suffocates root systems. [1, 2, 3] Substrate Degradation: In potted or container-grown palms, decomposing or breaking down growing media strangles the root zone. [1, 2] Nutrient Imbalances: Excessive uptake of heavy metals or competing ions—such as manganese, zinc, copper, ammonium, or phosphate—can induce iron deficiency symptoms. [1, 2]
