    Adonidia merrillii/Christmas Palm

I would agree with the others by guessing Archontophoenix. The lack of the high arc petioles was what I noticed.

Pindo, Mule or Alfredii for front yard?

Semi shade not dense shade like my Chambyronia!!
  5. I have one here that, when kept brutally dry, seems to have survived a drop to 24.6 with nothing more than a weed matt cover. I think they survive cold better when super dry but that remains to be seen. It's very small still too, and I expected death last year, so to survive hard freezes two years in a row is impressive. It does look the worst out of everything but the chrysalidocarpus basilongus though lol.

    Geonoma undata Seedling Question

Richard I germinated a batch a couple of years ago. I can say even 25C was too warm. They only started sprouting when I removed them from heat completely. Indoors over winter about 15 sprouted at around 18-22C. Wish I had’ve read this thread before giving them a go. I’ve got a couple left hanging onto life, but I’ve figured out along the way and possibly too late that they like it constantly damp. Even with the bottom of the pots sitting in standard water. @Jonathan this thread is worth a read.

    Geonoma undata Seedling Question

Hi Jim just scored a batch of seeds of this palm, my question is what temperature did you germinate them at thanks.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

Absolutely beautiful, keep looking for more single stem beauties I say. I just managed to germinate a stack of them, I will keep an eye for the elusive single stem!
  12. If you’re after a beautiful easy growing palm, look no further than the dasyantha. They seem to love whatever iam doing to them. A beautiful understory palm. I have a few in dappled light to deep shade to morning sun and they all seem to love growing in these conditions. They will drink as much water as you give them and a little tolerance to mild dry conditions if you miss a watering. I love them super easy to grow and not too bad on the eye, the poor man’s mapu is definitely worth growing. I even lucked up with a variegated variety from a seed batch I germinated.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

Another old frond removal today. This one is particularly special as it's the only solitary maroon leaf, red vestiaria I've ever been able to find. And believe me I've looked.
  14. One of the world’s most beautiful palms imo. But they won’t really grow here, so I can only admire them while traveling. In the tropics, their success is their downfall, as, like Cocos, they’re everywhere. Kind of like P. robellini out here.

Lowes was out of totes and precut 2x4s and I don't really feel like shimming things out to make it level so I took that as a sign to stop. Welp, just like any other stop sign - no cop, no stop, we roll right through. Anyway here's what I did tonight. I think my Bokashi is ready. There's still like a few scraps of newspaper and some mango pits but other than that you'd never tell this is a few months worth of dinners. Black Ruffle Colocasia from Wellspring. Cut off the stupid plug wrap (I hate those) and into a 1 gallon. I am not cutting these bastards down again, idgaf about spider mites. They can get the hose. I don't know if I want to sell it as a mass pot or split them up... There's already 4 or 5 in there. Yeah I used a little coir. But I cut it with some more organics this time. Let's see how that goes. I know it drains like my head when someone tries to talk politics to me. Garden State Bulbs (2 Hawaiian Punch - one with a single eye and one has sprouted like 6 eyes. I thought about cutting it.... For about 2 seconds. Eff that. Let it be a bush. And the White Lava. More space on the heat mat, too. I also am gonna need a lot more of these. Best price is 55 bucks for 50 of them. Buy something. Harvested the snake plant. These have been water rooting, it's taking too long. Let them dry, hit them with the rooting hormone, throw them in Solo cups and sell them for $5 or throw them in as freebies. Whatever. Project Papaya Palace is becoming Project Piss John Off. This big beautiful beeotch is pushing 2 feet from the soil now. On one hand it's cool but on the other hand, I've had to update the eBay listing a few times. It's now 22" from the soil. It's for sale. Put the Crape Myrtles outside. Using these lids the same way I use the clear totes - water catch trays. The shape and the channels works great. Same thing as the ones at Lowes, just $1 more. I can squeeze 4 more 1g in here. I dunno if it shows up but that Condor dragonfruit is getting some INSANE bends to it, and I keep turning it because I love that shit. Straight plants are so boring. I didn't get to these 3. I think these are all bound for the yard. Thai Giant Colocasia. I think what I'm looking forward to the most about spring is getting to level my lights out again. This is killing my OCD, man. Canna and pineapple crown and more damn philodendrons I'll throw this in the color thread too. My God photo does it no justice. New leaf on caramel Pluto. Another one for the color thread. Pink Princess with orange fire flash mandarin whatever the hell you wanna call it, every seller calls it something different. Agave. So I specifically built this bench with a 5 inch gap so I could cut 4 inch holes across the bottom of the totes and throw a bucket under it to catch the overflow. Works just like I drew it up. It's nice to not have to run the heater. I also noticed this add-on room is not sealed. I think that'll be a summer project. Everyone has their favorites. I put a pinch of this in every cup, a couple pinches in every 1g and a small handful in every 5g. It's great at jump-starting roots. Red Ensete Maurelli #2 and this time I took the stupid damn fabric off. Some kind of yellow dwarf ginger thing. It was Wellspring's freebie this week. Knowing my luck they'll have something awesome next week. Whatever. I'll grow it and plant it or sell it. I butchered this White Princess and somehow it's even more beautiful to me. These 2 gigantic jerkholes are why my lights are all throwed off. Welp On top of this, I found a deal I couldn't say no to, for a shitload of Black Magic colocasia bulbs. 10 or 15, I don't remember. A lot. And they're already rooting. A bunch are going into the yard after I bust out the sawzall and clear out all the brush and saplings from around the oak tree. The cats and possums that live in there will be mad but whatever. I need to add more bamboo stakes to my wishlist too. I. Am. Not. Cutting. These. Again.

    Fake Spring and Anxiety

I guess my greatest strength is freaking the hell out about a problem and then figuring it all out. Unfortunately, my dumb ass just ordered 20 more colocasia bulbs so if Palmtalk has an Amazon Wishlist or Throne equivalent we can add 5 gallon pots and coir to it.

This is excellent advice. I hope it's not too late for my brother's one. I'll tell him to put it in the balcony, perhaps it will dry faster there. The weather is perfect right now, about 70F.
  21. Darod Petty and I are coming to the San Diego area the week of March 16th. We have a large truck and are on a buying trip for Northern California Palm Society. members So far we have almost 200 palms ordered from several nurseries in the area. There are several harder to find varieties we are still on the hunt for: Any Ceroxylons, Dypsis onilahensis, Plectocomia himalayana, Arenga ryukyuensis, Beccariophoenix madagascariensis, Butia bonnetii and purpurascens, Geonoma undata, jubaeopsis caffra, Kentiopsis piersoniorum, and Wallichia densiflora. If you have any of these, please let me know - size, price, quantity available etc. Or the other way around, if you have interesting or unusual plants, and think we should stop by, let me know.. Feel free to respond here or reach out to me directly. Thanks - Keith. keithjaeger@gmail.com
  22. Thank you for putting this together. Definitely has potential as a book but does need more work. Esthetics I personally love the 18th-century botanical exploration look-and-feel. Yes, it does feel AI-ish but I can get over that. As far as I am concerned, keep the parchment feel but perhaps give the sentences more space to make it easier on the eyes. There are typos (e.g., "indicaition", "piized", "sub-teneranean"), redundancies (e.g., "trap warm air") and certain sentences are cut off (e.g., last sentence Myth page). Clarity Overall, pretty good. I think certain points can be made clearer. When you write, for example, that "it is often the low temperature they face that damages them", we palm nerds know what you mean but this is meaningless, or may even seem needlessly simplistic, to the average reader. The point is actually a very good one and worth making: Zone hardiness maps are based on averages across X years whereas plants are mostly sensitive to extremes; or, a 5F does occur in 8A. When speaking about foundation planting, its clear that they provide year-round structure and consistent tropical character, however, the point that foundation plants provide new introductions you want to trial is not clear to me (this is probably a error on your part). The picture next to explaining microclimates to south-facing walls is potentially misleading. It may make people believe that a walkway light will create a microclimate. A picture showing sunshine hitting the wall would be supportive of the text. These are just some examples! Content Honestly, I have been doing palms for several years and, although I have had some good mentors and experience, I consider you one of the world's leading experts when it comes to cold protection! Although I generally agree with everything, there's a few statements I am not always sure about if there is good empirical evidence for and I wouldn't be surprised if there are alternative explanations: - Light protection during establishment greatly improves long-term success? (I rarely ever do this except when planting mail orders in Texas summer) - In my experience needle palms can tolerate lower than ~16F when it comes to frond damage - Sabal Palmetto showed high survival rate after 3 F here in Texas. Is 8F too careful? Bedtime here now but this was a great read. Hope the feedback is useful! ~ S

I'm in no rush. Check my Instagram and YouTube, it's packed and I'm fixing to add 30 more Colocasia bulbs and another 8 seedlings in there. I was told to seal them in Tupperware and leave them alone and basically check them in a year so that's where we're at. I don't remember if I got them in May or September but we got time.

    Sancho's Green Paws

Guys, I've sold a bunch of stuff on here and everyone says they're happy in DMs but no thread. @kinzyjr @PALM MOD am I allowed to screenshot those dms and post them here? I also have 100% feedback on eBay. I'm not Phil from Jungle Music with the 2x4 cases but I pack things the way I'd want to receive them.

    A few goodies on eBay

I've got Philodendron and colocasia and alocasia coming out of various orifices in my body. Obvs they're gonna be too big to sell soon so let me know if you're looking for something and I probably have it.
