Any tips to grow Verschaffeltia Splendida from seeds?
PlantsEnjoyer replied to PlantsEnjoyer's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI recently check for the humidity here. Rest are fine, but its getting dry until the afternoon. Its pretty nornal here since the Australian Monsoon always arrived in Indonesia from the month of April until August/September. But I'm a bit concerned on the El Niño season though, Hope it will not stay for long! - Today

Turning a Water Oak Forest into a Tropical Paradise in NW Orlando
Chester B replied to Merlyn's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI think people who don't live in climates like this really understand how hard it is to get things accomplished in summer. I have the same schedule - 30 minutes of work followed by the same for a break. The only difference is I try to stay outside in the shade under a fan and only go inside when I know I'm just too hot. And the weeds in these climates are just insane. That's a ton of work for this time of year. -
2026_02 - Florida Palmageddon Observations and Damage Photo Thread
pj_orlando_z9b replied to idontknowhatnametuse's topic in FREEZE DAMAGE DATARecovery is really picking up here in Belle Isle with the tropical heat and beneficial rains. Apr vs this weekend. Coconut is finally pushing up and not folding. Adonidia made a full recovery and have been the fastest z10 plants to regrow. My final casualty list includes 1 autograph plant, 1 plumeria, and a young/unprotected flame thrower. -
Update on my Verschaffeltia today
PlantsEnjoyer replied to PlantsEnjoyer's topic in PALMS IN POTSI really feel and understand that, even me sometimes I struggled a lot to find the perfect size and shape palms for my garden. Even though I live in the tropics, I have 2 yards front and back which are both very different. My frontyard is really dry, dusty, and swampy but depends on the season. The floor can't get enough sunlight due to large canopy of trees, almost no grasses are alive except those huge trees. My backyard is too small to plant medium to large palms, but the ecosystem is much more better and more direct sunlight! For comparisons: Frontyard Backyard -
What can I do to save my trachy?
Valentine replied to Valentine's topic in COLD HARDY PALMSThanks Allen, the pic is a bit deceiving. There is plenty of space 1.4m by 1.5m for the roots to breath. I have attached 2 more pics so you can see it. Please let me know your thoughts, thanks

Joe NC replied to Joe NC's topic in COLD HARDY PALMSLooks great! I'm glad that I can check in on the progress that it is making. It didn't seem to mind the move. I wonder how my former mules are doing.... I think it got pretty cold in SENC this past winter?- What can I do to save my trachy?
Allen replied to Valentine's topic in COLD HARDY PALMSWhen looking at this pic I don't like the tiles all around it from a palm health perspective, I assume it might be under watered and hard to do anything with the soil in this type planting unless the photo angle is throwing me off. For instance you can't check to see if the roots are healthy or if it doesn't have air pockets under there- Floribunda Palms Summer 2026 Price List Update
Jdash replied to Floribunda Palms's topic in For Saleexcellent list! thank you for all you two do! anyone know the difference between lanonia sp. large mottled and the dasyantha super mottled?- So What Caught Your Eye Today?
happypalms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDECouple of champion palms there, and did you get you get attacked by any kitty Kats?- Jubaea dead leaves, to cut or not to cut?
happypalms replied to Banana Belt's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDETrimming leaves is purely for aesthetic purposes in most gardens, any amount of life left in a palm leaf will benefit the palm, no matter how tattered or dying look, the palm needs that leaf right up until it decides to drop it. Leaves are a factory for all plants, it’s only us palm nut fanatics who go crazy with the secataures or pruning saw, I pretty well much leave them on until they fall off. There are some exceptions to that rule a problem leaf rubbing against a roof or building, a leaf that is in the way near a pathway, transplanting a palm you remove a lot the foliage. A leaf that is in danger of doing substantial damage if it falls. But in general wait until it dies and falls off.MikeLebigaro joined the community- So What Caught Your Eye Today?
happypalms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE- A few interesting seedlings doing well in winter
happypalms posted a topic in PALMS IN POTSSome nice varieties holding up well for mid winter, it’s been cool enough to sort out the seedlings this winter. A few promising winners in there somewhere.- macrozamia fraseri
happypalms replied to gyuseppe's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsGood luck with them they are fairly easy to grow like most cycad species. Lots of sunlight!- Update on my Verschaffeltia today
happypalms replied to PlantsEnjoyer's topic in PALMS IN POTSCold soil leads to a lot of things especially with tropical palms, but most of the time it’s the foliage that burns from the water inside the plant cells freezing. This is why the leaves go black. Or it’s just luck of the draw some live and some don’t, palms would have to be one of the most sensitive plants around when it comes to cold temperatures. And it’s so frustrating trying to figure out what palms to purchase or grow with the risk of being killed by cold weather.- So What Caught Your Eye Today?
happypalms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE- Recent Travels in Indonesia
PlantsEnjoyer replied to Daryl's topic in TRAVEL LOGSHmm I see, Nikon is one of the best cameras they said, I am not really a camera guy though, but sometimes things that are old are more stunning than the new ones! 😃- Defying my Prediction
Stelios replied to Cindy Adair's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI thought my coconut was gone a few years back after a record winter rainfall. I cut it to clean the rot but I was expecting it will not make it anyway. It's not growing in it's normal climate but it's still surviving today.- macrozamia fraseri
gyuseppe replied to gyuseppe's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsYes Richard, in the past I have already had many species of macrozamia, made from seeds, some sent to me by Tyrone and Jonathan and other seeds bought, and they lived until I went to the hospital, and there was no one to take care of them, all grown from seed, the ones I bought all died within a few days of arriving, yes the soil is very draining- So What Caught Your Eye Today?
happypalms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDETriphylla are so cute they need to planted next to a step or that intricate little corner you walk past or the garden will eat it up. They set seed from a young age and they do make fantastic container palms.- Update on my Verschaffeltia today
PlantsEnjoyer replied to PlantsEnjoyer's topic in PALMS IN POTSYes you're right, its perhaps likely to be a humid cold that kills your palms, the high of moisture and cold temperature could lead to root rot according to google, and I didn't even know this before!- macrozamia fraseri
happypalms replied to gyuseppe's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsDrainage will be the key to success on this one, they grow in sandy soil in hot conditions. Coming from Western Australia. That has some very harsh conditions, it will be cold tolerant iam confident in saying that. As for any other information I hand it over to our WA resident @Tyrone he is the man for information on this one he lives there, I have one in my garden and it’s tough but watch out for overwatering!- Pseudohydrosme gabunensis
happypalms posted a topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsI never thought this plant would take the cool weather, it’s bound to go dormant sooner or later, I like them that much I just purchased another one. It will be very interesting to see if it flowers! - B. yatay x Jubaea need a new home asap. NC
