It is our opportunity to visit the home of Ralph Velez, at 15461 Devonshire Circle, Westminster. If you don’t know Ralph, he started his palm collection in 1962. His yard was highlighted on Huell Howser’s television show. Many newspaper articles have been written about his fabulous garden of exotic palms and other unusual plants. His two story greenhouse will also be open for touring. There you will find many palms and plants that are unable to be grown outdoors in California.…

Dear Palm Lovers: We are extremely pleased to announce that we will be having our November 19, 2022 gathering at two gardens in northern San Diego county, one in Encinitas, and the other in Oceanside. Garden No. 1: The first garden will be at the home of Tracy & Dana Strahl at 1723 Eucalyptus Ave, Encinitas, CA 92024. The garden in the coastal Leucadia portion of Encinitas was started in 2010. While this is an older neighborhood, the quarter acre lot was stripped nearly bare of plantings after they purchased the home to make room for Tracy’s container collection of Palms and Cycads he accumulated after running out of space to plant in their…

Spring Garden Tour Croton Meeting & Auction Saturday, April 6th, 2019 Cooper City, S. Florida The next Croton 'Group' Meeting and Auction has been combined with the S. Florida-based Spring Garden Tour. It will take place at a popular and well-known garden, consisting of a vast Palm, Croton and tropical plant collection. I believe most of the plants for the Auction will be Croton cultivars, including some extremely rare ones, but I think any plant may show up. The auctioned plants support the donor, as there isn't an actual Croton Society anymore. Trading and personal sales among plant fanatics is popular among the attendees. There is usually…

Jim sits in one of the mildest locations in all of Northern California! Don't miss this garden meeting! Bring your camera! Sunday, October 9, 2011 Jim Denz Garden Time: 1:00 PM Location: 1085 Highland Circle Los Altos, CA The Jim Denz Garden, on 1/4 acre property, was started in earnest soon after the "big freeze" of December 1990. Existing Trachycarpus, Washingtonia, and Phoenix palms were barely affected by the low to mid 20s temperatures that lasted a week so, during the following spring season, Jim planted a few queens and king palms (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana) that are very large and fruiting today. Over the years 90 additional species of palm…

KOO-KOO FOR COCONUTS? If you even looked at this post, you know you are! Don’t miss The Palm Society of Southern California's November 21, 2015 meeting in Palm Desert and Coachella! We will be meeting for the first time at two gardens, one of which features a maturing Cocos nucifera. This is at the home and garden of Greg Curdes, at 59905 Avenida Bermudas, La Quinta, CA 92253. Greg planted his coconut in a garden enclosed by a wall and near a pool. The coconut is about 20 feet tall. It's not some anemic excuse, but a bodacious specimen. The next garden will be at the home and garden of PSSC member Danny Lopez, at 48329 Agua Caliente Street, Coachella, CA 92236. Mr. Lo…
