thank you PalmMod. i figured it was a scam, $45 for a partic Schaffer generated hybrid, are both individuals scammers or is the person who suggested I reach out just a situational victim? i have been purchasing from Patric for the last 15 years. I just did not know who or how to report the issue here. I did not want someone else to fall into this trap here as peoples budgets are tight enough, thanks Craig

I have it on good authority that pigs taste much better than gophers.

Vietnam Biennial: February 23 – March 3, 2026
ASHCVS replied to ASHCVS's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
We typically have with us on the IPS biennial several officers from other plant societies. One of my besties is the president of the Ti Plant Society in SoCal. So this is in his honor: “Hanoi Candycane” -
I stopped by Epcot today for a couple hours and Universal for about 90 minutes. The photos speak for themselves:

Currently 70F with a high of 72F and low of 40F this morning here in the east valley of AZ. Definitely chilly this morning but looking forward to the warm days ahead. Looks like I'll be turning on the AC for the first time very soon.

I’ve planted a few Sabals this year but our temps have been in the 70s and 80s for a while. Aside from one cold week we haven’t had a winter.
-
Well that’s true it’s palm city around my garden. Love the spot where your dog is, there are many pets in my garden

I think the landscape up here is gonna look very different here in just a couple of weeks. Expecting everything to come out at once instead of in stages. With the heat we have had this week, buds are expanding on just about every kind of tree, and its starting to become noticeable from the ground. River birch catkins are expanding and even getting some leaves coming out on those, red maples are living up to their names right now. Pears are starting to flower, and im also starting to see slight movement with the buds on the oaks too. How is everything gonna do this week with the expected freeze? I dont know, hopefully everything will be okay. The forecasted low is 27F for Monday night. Looks to warm back up pretty quickly by the end of next week with lows back into the 50s. Heres the red maple as of today:

He is definitely a scammer and has been banned. But always be alert, as these guys can sign up under another name and/or email.

Only one has its spear pulled, but I see something down in the hole. The others are still holding on strong, so I have no idea what's going on, but I guess they're doing okay. The ones in the bin are the dudes I want to get into the ground, since the roots are growing out of the nursery bags, two of them were strap leaves I dug up from Bragg Blvd 3 years ago. Its great to finally come full circle and they can go back into the ground continue. 🤠

PAPalmtrees replied to PAPalmtrees's topic in COLD HARDY PALMS

Tree isn't looking too hot right now. 4 fronds (out of 10) are completely brown and 3 of the new ones are half brown. Haven't had freezing temps for over a month. -
Why not grow orchids?

Cattleya lueddemanniana coerulea. Cattleya lueddemanniana ('Maria Cecilia' x 'Mariaux‘) Purchased last August and first time blooming for me. Takes a few days for blooms to go from white to a slight coerulea look. The smaller blooms on right are the older ones. Fragrant, but not as noticeable as the lavender one I have. -
Agreed. Gotta take advantage of the fact that we are lucky to live in a part of the US that can grow palms. Unlike you Aussies with your palms everywhere lol

What happened to Texas Cold Hardy Palms (Joseph Rossi)
MarcusH replied to PAPalmtrees's topic in COLD HARDY PALMS
I learned real quick that growing palms is a huge commitment. It's not like you plant something and call it a day. Here in Texas I can't even fully enjoy the winter because my nose is glued to the NWS screen just hoping that we don't get a 2021 Palmageddon winter. It's the uncertainty that bothers me. Every hobby costs money. I'm someone that can easily let go. I don't need to live at a place where I can grow palms. I also don't have the time and willpower to build structures around zone pushed palms just to keep it alive. I see some of our members doing that every year I'm like there's no way I'm going to do that. I work many hours, physically I don't have time for that kind of stuff. I also have my wife . She's maintenance too lol. I'm just a simple palm grower and I'm cool with that. -

2026 2026 Florida Palmageddon Observations and Damage Photo Thread
aabell replied to idontknowhatnametuse's topic in FREEZE DAMAGE DATA
A few of the more tender things at Naples Botanic Garden today. Not sure what the low temps were there but the vast majority of the collection seems to have avoided major damage. Areca catechu: Nypa fruticans: Pritchardia pacifica: And a few Pritchardia thurstonii for comparison, proving much more tolerant of cold compared to pacifica (as advertised)
