Could it be El Nino, perhaps? Meanwhile, here in the Eastern Mediterranean, we are having one of the coldest and wettest springs in history. It looks like the summer will be cold as well

Certainly appears to be recovering to me. Sure it'll look rough for a little while, but the fact that it still has that much green shows how resilient it is.

My everglades grows like a weed. I've seen several large clumps growing around town (the tall trunks died in the 2021 freeze). Not sure why the wait on planting, should've been planted yesterday !

A good palm for nosiness might be Caryota mitis. My whole experience is just 6 months but it seems to be a fast grower with multiple trunks and large, dense fronds. Chamaedorea cataractarum is graceful, dense, and commonly available. Not sure how much it’ll enjoy full outdoor sun. (I’m experimenting with that this year!) Sabal palmetto in oversized pots will also work like a hedge. Those humongous leaves definitely block the view and they’re very easy, but slow. Since you have a basement I’m guessing we’re talking Kansas or New Jersey, not Texas, but if TX then you could consider planting out Sabals to avoid overwintering.

@Plantasmagoria welcome to PalmTalk! I'm guessing you mean NJ, right? If you need something reasonably dense, a common choice is Dypsis Lutescens, commonly called the Areca Palm. The new name is Chrsalidocarpus Lutescens, so you might see any combination of names. They will easily cluster to be pretty dense, take full sun and part shade, and can be grown in pots pretty well. They are not hardy below freezing, and will take variable leaf burn down to around 25F before culms start dying. By the lower 20s they'll burn to the ground, but regrow quickly in the spring. It's definitely not a winter survivor in NJ but ok inside with lights. But you can grow dense clusters and chop off any stems that get unmanageably tall. Another idea (if in mostly shade) is the "Cat Palm," Chamaedorea Cataractum. It's smaller than Areca and looks similar, and is similar in hardiness. But it doesn't like a lot of direct afternoon sun. So if your spot gets blasted in the afternoon it might not be happy there. Lady Palm (Rhapis Excelsa) is a common potted palm too, but generally pricey and might not be a good visual block. It's a lot hardier than the above, taking 22.5F at my house with zero burn. All palms are susceptible to spider mites inside. Abamectin is a common suggestion here, if you have issues.

I gave them to Richtrav from Texas and he already has them in the United States, I saved 2 seeds for myself and they are turning brown now, they look good, now I have to wait until they sprout.

87F right now around sunset in the east valley with a high of 102F and low of 62F. The mornings are still a little "chilly" for here but this is the time of the year when below average temps are always welcome.

Seems like a reasonable plan. I have a decent size dioon" queretero" that I received from Tom Broome, got it about 2 years ago. It came bareroot but from a pot not field dug. So I planted it in my own fast draining mix in a pot slightly larger than the rootball. It's done well, 2 flushes and a male cone. Dioon edule has a reputation for being tough, I think it will do well.

On Brave browser on my Android tablet it also defaulted to dark mode. The greys and colors all look great to me, with just the exception of the orange-red highlight color. Initially the only thing that bugs me is the default column width. 2/3 of the screen is taken up with a blank right side column with the Donate and Recently Browsing dialog box. So every time I go to a new page I have to zoom in on the actual main column. Previously the right column was there but significantly narrower.

I know this is the Palms in Pot not a Cycad in Pot forum but I didn't know where else to post 😊 Im buying a field dug Dioon Edule, I want to put it in a nice container off my patio. This Dioon comes out of south Tx, lots of clay and I need some help. Should I just buy a nice pot, slightly larger than the root ball and then add 50% MG cactus soil and 50% Perlite around the edges and bottom? Ive never potted anything that was field dug. Thanks

92F and not bad out after reaching the mid 90s earlier.. Up tomorrow. We'll see if we crack 100F sometime this weekend, ..or escape the last 10 days of the month without seeing another 100F reading.. Still keeping an eye on Monday afternoon for the continuing potential for some dry, mountain storms. ..Might not be the only threat for seeing that kind of activity building up there before the start of June either.. Speaking of which.. CPC seasonal outlooks are out today and ...looking good as we inch closer to the start of Monsoon Season, but, we'll see how June's thoughts look. This month's thoughts do shift the higher " above normal rainfall lean potential " a bit further north into the 4 - corners, esp. earlier in the season though.. Regardless, looking respectably wet state and region - wide Drought Forecast for the summer is out as well and adds weight to the " encouraging " thoughts from ...pretty much everywhere else... regarding seeing a wet summer..
