  2. I would check the color of that spear and also mark it to see if you notice any spread growth with the warmer weather. I have failed about a dozen times with coconuts here in Jax because I love them so much I couldn’t give up, but growing then is near impossible unless you can protect them and provide supplemental heat over winter. I’m down to one I have potted so I can move it inside when it gets cold. It’s still suffering, and I had another one die last winter that never saw frost or freezing temps, but just couldn’t handle sustained cool temps. Beccariophoenix alfredii is a cool palm that really looks a lot like a coconut and handles our climate much better. I’m not sure where to get them, but there was a guy that worked at Jax Palms who was selling them locally when I talked to him a couple years ago. He may be on here as well.

Where can I get hardy agave from?

@kinzyjr Hey you’re a mod right. This comment above mine is completely unrelated to the topic and links a random gambling site. Acc only has 1 other comment, quite suspicious. They didn’t even try to fit in with the spanish 😂

Mexican Fan Palm in zone 7b/8a

Except.............. Robusta are not known to "sprout" in 9.2 ph soil like filifera are documented. An often overlooked or "ignored" fact/trait of filifera. Pics of native robusta habitat in Mexico look quite different. My hunch Filifera grove
  6. That's very encouraging news! Hope things continue to push upward!

2026 Florida Palmageddon Observations and Damage Photo Thread

These photos are only 4 months apart. Ugh. One night of freezing but happened to be 25F. Most sensitive have been treated with copper fungicide and, marking each spear with a sharpie 3 days ago, i confirmed all are moving their spears. This includes adonidia, bottle, foxtail, and coconut. Doesn't mean they're safe yet but at least alive. Got on a ladder to mark a new area of my coconut spear and noticed a new inflorescence pushing that is green (circled in blue). Will be interesting if it continues to push out because my experience is a stressed palm doesn't put it's energy into fruit.
  9. Looking for seedling or small palm in Southern California. Any one I believe there are eight. Thank You

I'm sort of new to treatments too. I hired a professional who sprayed copper fungicide and part 2 is 2 weeks later (Feb 20). He told me too much copper could harm a palm. Hope he's right because that seems like a long time between treatments. For the others I use peroxide and apply every other day. My majesty bubbled on Sunday. Today it didnt. Hope your palms recover.
  11. It's painful to toss a plant but the garden should be a source of enjoyment, not despair. If it hurts to look at, just remove it. Otherwise leave it alone until it recovers or a replacement is found.

    Grow light addendum

Honestly? I think I've spent more on perlite and coir than anything else. I bought some expensive lights on eBay and wanted to return them? 50% refund. Got some pillows off Amazon? Refund and keep them. I got a heating pad I didn't want for Christmas. Return. A couple lightning deals and a couple black Friday deals and we're set up with extras. 5 (now 6 after the new pup) of the bananas were gifted, 2 were freebies from Wellspring Gardens, and the 2 Javas I only paid like $15 ea for and one of them is 6 feet tall now. Most of what's in there is seed grown. I built all of the tables with 2x4s and repurposed shelving - like real wood shelving, not the particle board laminate crap. Buckets are $3 and change at Walmart. The big totes were $6 on Black Friday at Lowes. I found some exotic philodendrons on $5 clearance racks that look fantastic. I promise this is very much a ghetto amateurish operation. I don't know if I should be defensive right now or not 😂 Its all documented on YouTube and Instagram, man.

A nice small dypsis plumosa I can get to quite easily. Super tough palm growing in sandstone rocks, very hot and dry!

My o es have flowered for about 3 seasons in a row now and no seeds as of yet! Richard
  18. They would pay good money for a purp like that here!
  19. Our low was 33.6°F - brutal wind. All mature palms appear undamaged.

    Palms of Dallas

Here are some images of how my cold hardy palms came though the last coldest event of the past 20 years in 2013 Minimum of 11F and 4 consecutive days below freezing. None were protected None died but many were severely damaged.

Another peroffskyana in cone, that’s the third one in cone this season in the garden, hopefully I should get about 300 seeds again!

    2026 biennial

The IPS chose late February because it is not the “wettest” season. However, like all rainforest adventures, I would expect wet conditions and mud.
