I need to get over there. I haven't been there yet. I keep wondering if any Livistona varieties will do well in Sacramento. I'm looking for something to infill between my mule palm and my Bolivian coconut.

Is it a common hedge palm where you live?

@Urban Rainforest I'm using the same brand, but the EDDHA 6% version. I also have done foliar sprays with the Southern AG "Palm Nutritional Spray" for the same purpose. Are you doing a foliar spray, soil drench, or soil dry sprinkle, or something else?

Yesterday morning, I went out and looked at my rain bucket which I had left out for 3 days. The rain was rarely very hard but it just kept raining a light or moderate at most rain in daytime with a few pauses, and at night too. I assumed it might have been 1 1/2"-2" or so but the bucket had 5+ inches in it. I had not checked the bucket because I didn't want to get wet and had been feeling ill. The ground was obviously saturated everywhere, soaked. A steady rain beats a shot hard rain every time. My little tortured satakentia with 3 of 5 leaves burned opened two leaves and the spear for the next is rising quickly. I am hoping for a break and it looks we get one, maybe.

I'm hoping there are at least a few C. macrocarpa that survived the mid 20's F. If yes, please post photos.

They grow very well here, they are just a little slow

From personal experience I can say that phoenix rupicola resists -6 degrees Celsius, but in Florida it is difficult to find a pure rupicola, not a hybrid.

Speciosa and Maroon Crownshaft should be great here in Cali. I’ve had some in pots for a few years and they don’t show any cold or heat damage 😎

Try Palm Island nursery in Vacaville. Dale the owner will steer you away from wrong choices, I remember him shaking his head at some of my choices when I lived in Esparto. He has lots of palms.

Very interesting. Phoenix Rupicola is new to me. I have neighbors with Phoenix Sylvestris that did fine this winter but Phoenix roebelenii were hammered. They still look close to death in several yards but I believe they will pull through.

All of the Copernicia albas did great in my neighborhood during this past winter (St. Augustine). Arenga engleri perform will here if you have overhead canopy. Livistona saribus, speciosa, and chinensis all look great if shade grown IMO. Acoelorrhaphe wrightii is an easy grow here as well. Phoenix rupicola saw zero damage at my place under canopy but about the same as roebelenii unprotected

Do you have some kind of rock in the soil mix? Pea gravel or sand? It needs more clay/loam type soil to retain moisture and stay moist in your climate. See how it does after fall and next spring but as others have mentioned in your climate it may be best in more shade. If you amended the soil around it with sand or rock you will probably need to dig up and move with better soil that will retain moisture and the afternoon shade is a good idea there. You have had temps over 100 there lately and the palm will do better in Sept-Dec as these palms prefer temps 65-85F to grow best.
