We are getting some hard rain now, lots of puddling int he yard, a good soaking that started off with a few intermittent mild showers an hour and half ago.

For me nothing was burned in February except crotons and a few satakentia leaves. We did not see lower than 32F but we had frost, that is what got the satakentias. 30(?) 10-15 foot Cocos planted in a field a half a mile south of me were 3/4ths burned brown, they are still recovering.

I can offer a 2 gallon seedling, 1" base,13" planted height, roots just starting to pop out of the bottom of the pot. Plant shipped in pot for zero root disturbance. 16 pounds shipped to Atlanta by UPS ground using pirate ship.com costs $30; plus $40 for the plant = $70 total for this exact plant. six years later my smallest one, planted as a 3 gallon in 2010(?) It was defoliated to the spear in 28F plsu frost in dec 2010 so yeah a setback. It has seen 3 hurricanes the last 8 years but it is small palm in my yard of ~30 footers so not much damage. The tall ringed poles are two other C. Oliviformis I can get in the two closest taller ones with a 17mm wide angle(cropped frame) lens, the pic is a bit squished but you get the idea. The next pic you can see the little one from the first pic center back. Then if I back off 80 feet I can see the crowns over the house. Sorry about the raindrop on the lens there, we may be getting lucky with rain soon, fingers crossed.

So despite recent rains, the Florida map % under a drought advisory is growing and not shrinking. Rainy season my a$2#s! For the first time I can remember and including the dreadful summer of 2023, the drought will persist at elevated levels past the "rainy season". I had 2 inches of rain last Sunday after 17 days with nothing and now 5 days since. One deluge in nearly 25 days doesn't cut it.

I found this brahea very easy to germinate unlike the others that sometimes take a year, this one germinated in a month, obviously the seeds were fresh

I am more inclined than before to believe these chambeyronia (previously kentiopsis) oliviformis are tougher in sun than Archontophoenix alexandre. Mine are planted next to each other and the C oliviformis stays a nice deep green, it never burns. Rate of growth froma small size looks good too. I might be tempted to put an archie and two oliviformis in a well spaced triple, the contrast would be nice to see.

I believe its a Mariae, though it is so dried up it could be something else. Washingtonia generally don't lose leaf bases up near the bud before down low like that. Mariae is a prettier palm than a washie robusta, but that palm looks like it has been tortured.

Gorgeous palm! Those braheas grow very well in a warm mediterranean climate and also in the desert climate of phoenix AZ. They lose their wax and they life in Florida. I had (6) blue armatas in arizona, I still miss them. Hot sun brings out the wax(blue).

That's what I thought. Yet the interps sign below says Red Cabbage Palm, Livistona mariae ssp. mariae.

This is one of the big green Encephalartos you dont see everyday. Instead of flushing with a white fuzz it flushes brown and looks more like animal fur. E. Sp. Bunia
