  2. It’s also just this side of lethal. The dead leaf that fell would make a wicked conk on the noggin. Conan and waste cart for scale.

    Palms with Clivia Gone Wild

Ours just bloomed! I had to move it under the Chrysalidiocarpus Decaryi , it started to get sun burned . The courtyard is now getting a lot more after noon sun. Harry I love the blooms of these . We will probably get more at some point.

2026_02 - Florida Palmageddon Observations and Damage Photo Thread

I had a small area of trunk rot on a young KO at one point. I scraped some of the outer soft portion off, then painted it directly with undiluted daconil a couple of times. It fixed the issue, but it wasn’t a crazy bad case. It was revealed by a shed leaf base, and dried out once exposed which probably helped a lot, also. I can say that there is little downside to this approach. Never had an adverse reaction to any amount of daconil put directly on a palm.

    UK spring/summer 2026

I figure I better start up one of these threads as I have a feeling it may be a dramatic year. Anyway, it has been pretty warm here. Wales had 25-26C today and I had 22C here. Tomorrow it will be 26C / 79F in London… The fires are already back with a vengeance, despite many places having the wettest winter on record. The past few weeks have been pretty dry and warm however. 5 active fires at the time of writing this, but it is the Marsden wildfire has been wrecking havoc. All the roads in the area shut off. Helicopters coming in tomorrow. We will see what the maximum is tomorrow in London. I would say 25-26C but it may reach 27C. I have a feeling the fires will be out of control the next few days…

2026_02 - Florida Palmageddon Observations and Damage Photo Thread

Has anybody treated a rot spot on their coconut palm trunk? Feels like a soft spot forming. Can that outer part of the trunk be chiseled away, treated, and sealed? Freeze damage is the cause. I've already applied banrot a month ago. Crown is doing fine but now concerned about the inside.

What is your current yard temperature?

Right now its 31f Today was a pretty cool day it was around 48-50 almost all day, tonight there's a low of 26-27 I've been seeing on Facebook a lot of the orchards are worried about their trees all the Peachtree's and apple trees are in full bloom I know our Peach trees will be fried I really hope There will be a miracle and they will be OK, thankfully I protected our small pear tree With a tarp and put a 5 gallon bucket of hot water we'll see how it does. This is how I protected my pear tree I put a bucket of hot water in there also so that should help, a low in the mid 20s in April is not normal for us I hope it does not get that cold
  11. Thanks, Tim!

    Cycad cones and flushes

Yeah dude, it's finally starting to push multiple fronds at a time but they're all crazy and viney. But I absolutely love it, I love weird bendy stuff that does whatever it wants to. And this definitely fits that mold. Maybe I'll try to get it something to climb the next time I'm in the lumber store.

Why is there no list of nurseries?

I believe everyone here has faced the same dilemma at one time or another. I recommend joining your local IPS affiliate. Attend a couple meetings. Ask the question from people with your same interest.

    Palms with Clivia Gone Wild

The yard was FULL of Clivia flowers but due to the unprecedented heat in March, I didn’t have much time to snap photos before the flowers began falling off.

  17. Thanks to everyone on these palms and particularly Eric. I agree with mnorell that Reinhardtia p was not in my wheelhouse. The picture may be misleading. This is not a small fragile palm. I will attempt to get some closer shots that give perspective on the size and depth of this specimen. Looking at Palmpedia, I do see resemblance and the pictures show that it is grown in this area. More to come!
  18. Yes, you are correct. Dave was just persisting in old habits.

Why is there no list of nurseries?

Research, research, research. Do your own and don't depend solely on pleas for others to do it for you. There are 1,000s of homegrown nurseries out there and most last only a short time before going out of business and floating away into cyberspace. PalmTalk can't keep track of them and nobody here wants them to. Find out what you want to purchase and look for it diligently until you find it - bear in mind that many species are virtually unobtainable anywhere. Also, a good idea to research whether a palm species can survive in your climate before you toss money at it. Steep learning curves but worth the effort if you love palms as much as many members here do. People that don't float off into cyberspace never to be heard from again. Another reason for PT not to post lists of defunct nurseries. Watch the SALE Forum and you will soon learn who the sellers are: PT/IPS members. All others should be considered suspect until they prove to you otherwise.
  20. Will have to grab photo of the livistona dont have a current photo but the beccariophoenix in the ground is the same size as the others just dont have a Pic of the potted ones

For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"

Got 1.3" earlier today - still less than parts of Cape Coral near our home but the most rain in one session that we've had in the past 1.5 years. Somehow Florida and cloud seeding do not connect with me. But let me tell you about the "Dome" that sits atop 15th Terrace and blocks virtually all precipitation while North Ft. Myers a few miles away scarfs up cloud emanations like a vacuum cleaner. I've lost a number of palms, including one of my variegated Sabal palmettos, because of this extreme drought. One week looking fine, the next: toast! I hope the last week of puny rainfall is enough to spare my remaining variegated palmetto. I don't have irrigation on my Garden Lot so everything depends on rainfall or hand watering. Rainfall appears to fall liberally over Cape Coral except for the infamous Dome turning our neighborhood into a desert.

Hobby has always been palmy Occasionally I run into these unicorn 2021 survivor queen palms. Look at how fat that trunk is , definitely helps insulate. (And how neglected it is lol) Again showing the genetic variability of queens...some are just naturally more robust with thicker trunks ...and more cold hardy

    Chamaedorea Nubium another rare one

Not yet, but I’ve got a few seedlings not too far behind my largest so I’m hoping I’ll have at least one of each sex in time. I still don’t know which sex the one pictured is, the spadix is still immature. Hopefully soon I’ll be enabling your JOMS!
