Harry Dypsis Basilonga , tied together to keep the petioles from breaking in the wind. The leaves are very long for the size of the petiole. The petiole are very dark when first emerging. Harry

Right now I have a lot of work for a vendor out that way . Yesterday was the hottest I’ve seen in a while , usually it is in the 90,s. I can watch the temp climb as I drive the 126 through Filmore and Piru . Harry

For 15 years or more it was much more pronounced and it would last well over a week. I planted it as a seedling in the shade of other palms. It flowers regularly , right now it has two spathes , but no fruit yet. I have found that deep watering helps it fight the burning leaf problem . They can handle lots of water , in fact it is necessary in warmer or hot climates. Harry

Not a good time to pot up but I had to, due to the fact they dislike being transplanted as seedlings and from the ground. So I thought as soon as they appeared each one was carefully teased out with a large bbq fork. I did some the other day as well and a couple today so a good update timing for sure 👍

Archontophoenix should love it because the lower part will hold moisture and nutrient. Beach dune sand would be a constant battle. It would go hydrophobic after about 10 minutes. Perth sand was like that. Constantly feeding it, always using wetting agent. Mulching it every few months only to have it disappear again. Your new place sounds exciting. -

The full royal treatment for this beauty, quality soil amendments along with being right next to the tap, pole position in the garden went into this one, the old chicken pidgeon coop, that had 20 years off bird poo. If I can’t grow this one in that soil iam going home!

But some years I get a lot of deep red colour and other years lighter red. It could be temperature, moisture, heat, cold. Whatever it is we need more of it!

You can’t go past that beautiful look of an accent palm, with a trunk that’s straight as an arrow and the arched leaves to the white crownshaft. Easy to grow with a little dry, cool tolerance. They love black sandy loam soil that’s free draining. Single plants will set seeds. Just another one of those Chrysalidocarpus that are an absolute winner!

If on the other hand soil is sandy or loamy , it is a relatively fast grower. Here from seed to seeding it took only 5 years. But not resistant at all to strong gusts, it loses form quickly.

Neel replied to Neel's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThank you everyone for the feedback... I already have a brahea, Chamaerops and triangle. However, the other side of the planter, I'm thinking of removing the sagos (they clump too much now and it's a pain to keep cutting it back) and putting some privacy bushes against the fence. I wanted a small, slow growing palm in the center surrounded by other vegetation but since I almost never seen Sabal Minor in so cal, wasn't sure if it would even grow.
