@MSXI also ordered and received some new seeds of RPS this week. They are indeed very small compared to my previous order.

What kind of palm tree or exotic plant did you buy today, or seeds for one?

Well done, Peachy, I am gratified that you have the correct priorities !! -

I posted this elsewhere on the forum, but this S. weddelliana arrived on Wednesday. Just noticed that it has two flower spikes coming out…I think! -
Brahea species at Rothschild's Villa Ephrussi

Look carefully at the two foreground palms. The image appears to show long filaments that exceed the crown profile. These are likely old spadices, a diagnostic character for B. armata, Thanks for posting ! -
How would mixing two species with long fronds produce one with such a short, compact crown?

Looks like a phoenix hybrid to me. Most likely canariensis x dactylifera, because you don‘t find other phoenix species in Greece than those two (and roebellenii)

I'll be following the progress of this plant. Good information @COpalms - Today

Now it's ready for soil, bulbs and cuttings. This one should be easier. Just clean it up and lay out heat mats and hang a light. Then I have this corner to clear out and build up. Still need to adjust a few lights, refractor experiments, but right now I just want to eat something and take a shower. I figured out why my mango seeds kept rotting so we're good there and I'm learning to like the smell of this neem. And I got La Chancla for the haters

Embarrassing palm ID request
tim_brissy_13 replied to Than's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
Well no 2 IDs the same yet from the Palmtalk community so definitely far from an embarrassing question. I’d be very confident there’s P canariensis influence in this one, but I think it’s a hybrid too. John’s P canariensis x reclinata guess seems reasonable to me. -

Phoenix reclinata is a clumping palm and if you worked to make it a single the trunk would be much thinner!!

2x4 scraps and some repurposed shelves. I bought a 50 pack of screws. I used 49. I'm about 210 pounds and I stood on it to hang the lights. I think this is gonna just be a damn colocasia factory. Freed up a lot of space for more seedlings (baggies are popping now) and separating community pots (anecdotally, Sabals for me do better with their own space). Spot in the corner for.... Whatever, there's a pretty table over there and I've still got a few bulb style LEDs. I can throw my Bokashi buckets under there and let them do their thing. Or whatever. This isn't as beefy as my other tables, but I intentionally left a 5" gap down the middle so everything can drain. I can just water 2 totes at a time, throw another one under there to catch the runoff. Jesus. It looks like I know what I'm doing, but I swear I don't. I broke like 4 more drill bits, took a chunk out of my hand, I had to hand tighten all the screws because my Phillips drill bit decided this was too much. I'm tired. I've still got the bench on the front porch and plenty of spare shelf wood to reuse.

The average winter temperature keeps going up, yes but severe cold snaps like we have seen in the 2020s will be the norm for a while , who knows for how long and we certainly don't know if the early 2000s come back anytime soon IF they even come back at all with climate change. Would be nice to see a few years of very mild winters but so far nothing really shows that we're heading this way unfortunately. I just have a very hard time being optimistic about it , just giving you my 0.2 cents.

My guess is B.armata. Perhaps easier to tell with the inflorescences. -

Looks like a senegal date palm Pheonix reclinata. -
Nah I don't think it's a date palm. The fronds would be much longer and arching. It's in Kalamata.

@COpalms I'm not familiar with heat cables, I assume these are providing heat for it. Otherwise I don't believe it will survive without some added heat/warmth, be it lights, etc... Having said all that, a sago palm can lose its green fronds and still be alive. The fact that you mention you are seeing some green near the trunk is a good sign. I've heard that as long as the caudex (the trunk of a cycad) is firm it's still alive. On the other hand, I have a sago that I believe is dead even though the trunk is still firm to this day. I didn't protect it much and it was in an exposed location and this past spring (I was unaware a sago could do this) it pulled multiple spears/fronds out of the center of the plant. It never regrew anything this summer. I do have two other sago palms that have survived some serious cold, but they are in sheltered microclimates, i.e. up against the house. I do protect these as well but no additional heat has been provided. Mine have seen 3'F and an multiple long stretches of below freezing days and nights. Here's one video of mine and you can find others on my channel if you're interested.

A beautiful Phoenix dactylifera, in my opinion. Great photo, Than 😃 Where is this? Curiosity is always good in such matters.

That’s cold I thought I was pushing it in zone 8a. A styrofoam box would be better I’m sure and add more insulation.

Hello, I would like to try to grow this species from spores, anybody willing to give a small section of frond or know where to get some? Can’t find these anywhere. Thanks!
