happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than Palms- Quick and easy chamaedorea seed rat protection
happypalms posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThose beloved rats that all palm growers could do without, have a fondness for chamaedorea seeds. Clever little sods I say and on the menu is chamaedorea adscendens seeds. If I didn’t place these simple clip lock sandwich bags over them I wouldn’t get a lot of seeds. It’s a proven method that works for me.- So What Caught Your Eye Today?

aztropic replied to aztropic's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEVery pretty specimen. The display of its 'burlap' is unique. aztropic Mesa, Arizona- Chrysalidocarpus lutescens seedlings
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in PALMS IN POTSThat’s exactly what you do with them, this way you don’t get that huge one dozen mother plants that grow into a monster. Single individual plants are much more attractive. Soon you will have a lot canes to plant around your garden!- Chrysalidocarpus lutescens seedlings
alzo replied to happypalms's topic in PALMS IN POTSPicked up some mass planted seedlings the other day as it looked as though a couple of them might have some dwarf genetics, separated them into there own pots. What do you think, not normal right?- Chrysalidocarpus lutescens seedlings
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in PALMS IN POTSIf they were discovered yesterday in habitat, omg they would be in such demand. The yellow colour they have is rather beautiful. It’s only the fact they have been around for decades that they are overlooked. Richard- Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana habitat migration
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEIt is a lot of work, but unfortunately it’s the only solution to a big problem, gas guns to chasing them in motorcycles, fake hawks hanging around the farm, even flying kites they think it’s an eagle above them. And those birds travel a long way returning seasonally each year, they know the food sources on the migration routes. Clever birds I say. Richard- The bromeliad flower thread
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsNo flower but Heres a doozy of a brom, and the best part is I know the name Neoroglia cats pyjamas. Only because I just purchased it! @Jonathan- The bromeliad flower thread

Harry’s Palms replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThat seems like a lot of work but probably the best solution. The birds are too smart for scarecrows! I believe the birds are responsible for the naturalization of a few palms here in Southern California. Harry- Anyone know where I can find Trochodendron araliodes currently for sale online at a decent price?
N8ALLRIGHT replied to Ohiopalmloverz6's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsInteresting plant. I had to look it up. Gossler farms out of Oregon has them listed currently and they ship, never ordered from them so can't personally vouch for them.- Yucca Rostrata in heavy soil
N8ALLRIGHT replied to Honza's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsI have a yucca rostrata growing here in Missouri. Last winter was it's 1st. Completely unprotected planted in clay with a little limestone gravel. It saw a low of 1f and highs of 100f. Very similar temperatures to what you described. It's on the north side of my property no where near my house. It is planted on a slope and I dug a small channel and filled it with gravel so it would drain well. The plant was a decent sized five gallon when initially planted. It's doubled in size since last summer but not trunking yet. So in my opinion, your protected site with excellent drainage and it being a large specimen, I think it will do well.- How Bout a 'Color' thread?
