    Early Plantings?

Yeah, they're good people. I kinda had to bust Teddy's ⚽ 🏈 a little bit because I never knew how much he looked like Seth Rogan, but I just potted up a bunch of stuff in his method.

Climate of Extreme South Florida Truly Tropical?

in a basic sense, A tropical climate is defined by a location/area within some proximity to the Equator (esp between the lines of Cancer and Capricorn) where the mean temperature during the coolest month is above 18c/64 f. Miami meets this qualification yet it’s climate is still considered ‘humid subtropical’. Humid subtropical is too broad by definition. Virginia is also considered humid subtropical. Many places outside of the tropics never freeze. Cairo is at 30 north and I think has never dropped below 34f. Bermuda is not tropical by location but meets the criteria by climate. It has never had a recorded temperature less than 5c/41 f and has a mean temperature in Jan of about 64f. By contrast, Southern coastal China and Tampico, MX are tropical, but on rare occasion, have experienced a brief freezing temperature near sea level.

What is your current yard temperature?

Mid 70s F around 11pm. Temperature map on Accuweather shows the only area warmer in the US right now is down around Laredo. Yesterday the airport at Baton Rouge had 87. Some burn on my face from the Sun even though I was not outside for long. Down to the freezing mark early next week. vegetation is still brown except for grass turning green in areas. No recovery yet from the Washingtonias, Livistonas, Sylvesters, etc that got some fading from the cold we had in Jan-Feb.

    Early Plantings?

It's really a great podcast , teddy and sabal king of texas are really great people they really know what they're doing! i have ordered from Teddy, numerous times his plants are so good quality Same with sable king of texas.
  10. Iam with you on that one, this one takes forever and a day to open up, it used to be red leaf now just green, and it has three spears it takes that long to open. Although temperature is not cold climate it’s the opposite stinking hot in summertime!
  11. Hi I need recommendations of palm nurseries or people who sell exotic in the Los Angeles area only let me know please
  12. Here is my update for this older thread. I purchased a 15 gallon C. hookeri, from a seed batch with very dark color. I planted it in a better location than my previous attempts. The palm took 21 months to grow and open a frond, which was plain green. Meanwhile, seedlings from Floribunda, grown in my greenhouse, throw a red frond every time, and the color gets darker each frond. Therefore, I have concluded that it is just too cold in my garden, and that I am finished with this palm.

    Another dypsis id request

Thanks, isn’t Tim running around Vietnam living the life of Riley, most likely sipping on cocktails by the pool, or drooling over some exotic palm he wishes he could grow! 🤣

    Scale on Hedy and Rhopie

OK guys, a slight change of subject. As noted above I am a big fan of acephate. However, it is best on scale and mealybug and not very good for spider mites. A better pesticide for mites is Bifenthrin 9.7% solution (retail name Talstar). The packaging lists the dilution rates for various pests, for mites it specifies one tablespoon per gallon. However, the packaging does not mention anything about the application schedule. With acephate I spray weekly three times in order to interrupt the reproduction from the egg capsules. What spray schedule should I use for control of a spider mite problem ? Thanks
  15. Tibouchina looking good for summer flowers. Even took a few cuttings!
  16. That’s good news then, it did come from a quality grower!

Butia X Jubaea F3 Seeds- Super Fresh

Any left? And are they viable? I.E. have any sprouted for you?
  19. We can start a discussion with temperature related I reckon, the hotter the shorter they hold the red, cooler climate the longer they hold the red.
  20. I have some Butia seeds that are 2+ years old and still sprouting. Stored in a ziplock bag and all fruit cleaned off. Hope that helps some.

    Early Plantings?

I did plant seeds early, not plants even though I believe they would make it fine even with a 29F period before spring
