Very interesting. Phoenix Rupicola is new to me. I have neighbors with Phoenix Sylvestris that did fine this winter but Phoenix roebelenii were hammered. They still look close to death in several yards but I believe they will pull through.

All of the Copernicia albas did great in my neighborhood during this past winter (St. Augustine). Arenga engleri perform will here if you have overhead canopy. Livistona saribus, speciosa, and chinensis all look great if shade grown IMO. Acoelorrhaphe wrightii is an easy grow here as well. Phoenix rupicola saw zero damage at my place under canopy but about the same as roebelenii unprotected

Do you have some kind of rock in the soil mix? Pea gravel or sand? It needs more clay/loam type soil to retain moisture and stay moist in your climate. See how it does after fall and next spring but as others have mentioned in your climate it may be best in more shade. If you amended the soil around it with sand or rock you will probably need to dig up and move with better soil that will retain moisture and the afternoon shade is a good idea there. You have had temps over 100 there lately and the palm will do better in Sept-Dec as these palms prefer temps 65-85F to grow best. Hey I’m by the falls area

These aren't suited to full sun in Texas. Definitely sunburn. They need shade, part shade or part sun with afternoon shade. It may never fully acclimate to full sun. You will see it will put on nice green leaves in fall, winter and spring and they will look good, but once we get around June they'll start to burn. I've seen this over and over with with my Trachys. I've tried to acclimate them but they can't handle it and I've tried multiple species, so they are under 40% shade cloth until I get some shady spots to put them in. I have one larger one that gets a lot of sun and so far its not burning but its very yellow compared to the rest even with fertilization. If you want a full sun palm for your area I would try Sabal palmetto or Sabal mexicana,

I'm up in Jacksonville and am growing many species of Butia (Odorata, paraguayensis, catarinensis, archeri), many Syagrus (Romanzoffiana, cearensis, campylospatha, hoehnei, schizzophylla, lorenzoniorum, weddellianum), many Chameadorea (Radicalis, microspadix, geonominformis) Sabal domingensis, Trachycarpus fortunei, Chamaerops humilis, Caryota maxima, many Livistona (Saribus, Mariae hyrbid, chinesis, decora), Rhapis var., Chuniophoenix (nana and hainanensis), Butigrus, Jubautia, and probably am growing the only pure Jubaea chilensis in the state. Hi everyone, I am curious about the climatic conditions of southern Pieria (Katerini-Nei Pori), such as such as winter minimum temperatures, summer maximum temperatures, annual sunshine hours, frost frequency, humidity, wind exposure, rainfall amounts and seasonal distribution, and how does the Olympos affect the climate of the region. my houailou is not as red as megs but it show some nice color. First leaf it had a nice yellow border around the pinkish red. This the last one was more pink reddish. Th reason I pinkish red is my hookeri are very red, like near fire engine red. Here is the houialou I waited a few days for the leaves to uncurl and it shows a little less of the pink red And here is the hookeri, which has also a more persistent red as much as a month or more vs no mor ethan a week for houialou. and with some direct sun transmitting the leaf, it becomes a "flame leaf" I also have noticed the houailou is definitely more erect, I never noticed leaves at or below the horizontal.

It has been a warm winter so far, but it’s not over yet! But I will say Iam quite surprised I haven’t lost to much considering all the new varieties I have. A few here and there, I was expecting a few loses, but the amount of new varieties that are taking the cold is a positive sign for now!

The big difference is I get day temps up 24 degrees celcius, a huge 22 degrees fluctuation in temperature, thermal mass and tree cover and a little ocean influence. I even get reasonably good growth in winter with the palms in the ground! Ps how’s that dasyantha going!

You’ve got a nice little spot Troy. No wonder those Mt Gower beauties feel right at home. I average 9 times under 2C per winter and 2 times under 0C. This year we’ve had 5 under 2C with a low of 0.1C so it’s been relatively kind so far. No losses of anything due to cold, just some brown tipping and minor spotting of sensitively species like some of my more tropical Chrysalidocarpus sp.

They are not a small understory palm that’s for sure!

That is sunburn and the leaves are semi closed/pleated indicating lack of moisture. 20 minutes every 5 days is most likely not enough for an "established" trachy in your area. As others suggest, the new leaves will be more resistant to sunburn, if properly watered. Also your trachy probably will not grow much until the weather cools a bit. Shade cloth would probably help slow further damage. 2-3 years for your palm to establish.
