Hi everyone...... I've posted Coconut pics here before - in particular the oceanfront property down by Van Kleeck owned by the Golden Corral founder/owner. Since the Feb. 1 freeze, I had ridden by several times and his Coconuts, while severely damaged like many of ours, appeared to have mostly survived and were beginning to recover. Then yesterday I see this., Every one removed including some other species. And it looks like the property may be on the market. Uploading Attachment...

Richard, be strong and courageous, but they don't understand that you are an honest person and that you work to get food and other basic necessities.

Can I remove these air roots? The philodendron froze last winter and has returned beautifully.

I understand your frustration . I think , for now , my desire to import seeds or plants has diminished as fees everywhere rise . Here , costs are going up disproportionately to affordability. I understand the idea of biosafety and all , but the cost is driving some into smuggling mode. I have an idea of what it takes to germinate palm seeds and it is a lot of time and a bit of work. I get my seeds for free but still spend on soil and containers . I admire your dedication to the palms , I can only imagine the amount of effort and $$ required. Harry

Preliminary dats for june shows most of the state below for the month with the weat coast in the top driest junes on record. A hotter atmosphere holds more moisture but also takes more forcing to generate rainfall. The result is drier on the daily chances with rain "bombs" when it does rain and large amounts. Florida is used to this pattern but it has gotten amplified recently and we are seeing that play out. Im hoping the pattern shifts for the rest of the summer and fall.

My plan is to get a solar fan but I really should have a power source for a bit of warmth in the winter . Yesterday I opened the door and , with the vent partially opened , had very good air flow . It is almost always windy up here by the afternoon hours. The problem then becomes maintaining humidity . With the door open , the humidity drops to 45% instead of 80% . Harry

I did. With a stop in Texas along the way. I'll change the signature if I can figure out how to do it.

Did you move from CA to FL? I’m assuming that because you have a coconut. It looks like you updated your profile to FL but the signature says CA. And I agree that coconut looks good. Not much damage at all.

Great photos, I think there’s enough there for someone to make a positive ID. My first thought was something in the Prychospermatinae tribe but not Adonidia, Ptychococcus, Veitchia, Carpentaria and I don’t think Ptychosperma either, just doesn’t look quite right. A lot seems to fit for Ponapea hentyi, but the leaflets don’t look wide enough. Other possibility could be some obscure Hydriastele species. I can’t say I know a lot of those tropical genera well enough to be confident to narrow down but the small round red ripe fruit will rule out plenty as will the praemorse leaflet tips and slightly plumose habit.

I have seen it all now with customs , apart from the usual fees and run around. It turns out I can import live snails to eat all my seedlings. That is if I can get the seeds in the first place through customs, I can now have snails to my list of troubles. Not that you dont get enough trouble trying to import seeds. Who writes these rules! 🤣

I guess it keeps them in a job! It’s hard enough to remember that many palms in a collection, you finally remember the name and they change the name!
