After some decent storms last night, rain in the morning and cloud cover that lingered thru about noon, temps barely made it into the 90s, after one heck of a hot August.. 83 and still fairly muggy at 9:05PM, Headed toward a perfect low in the mid / upper 70s around the neighborhood by sunrise.. Week ahead looks ...warm ...but MUCH nicer than it has been.. Trough hanging around the western U.S. thru the week, will keep the worst of the heat outta here, for now at least. Rain chances back off for a day or 2, before ticking up again as we head toward the upcoming Labor Day Weekend. Depending on what happens w/ the tropical system that .......might...... approach CA and the southwest by the weekend, we could see anything from low ..but decent... rain chances return, ..or something more significant.. Regardless, for the time being, we may avoid another extended stretch of 105+ heat as we head into the first full week of September, and Meto. Autumn. Does this mean we're -completely- done w any more 110s? ..We'll see. Yeahh... we've seen them as late as October, but this may be one of those years we avoid that, thankfully. ..Fingers Crossed.

I have two tuckeri and one Alexander. They’re going in full sun. I’ve been trying to acclimate them by putting them out in morning and noon sun. I have one cunninghamiana thats in filtered light and the fronds crisp a little where they get more sun. The alexander is the tallest. Im planting them as multiples. After my alfredii croaked I really can’t have any more unsightly palms in the front. Should I put a shade cloth over them in the afternoon? We have about a month of intense UV rays. Once it hits October it will still be hot, but uv rays won’t be as intense.

Rancho Cucamonga is 2100 feet above sea level? I thought it was much lower. I figured apple valley and Victorville high desert would be that high. Im surprised you don’t get a lot of frost at that altitude.

August 31, 2026 It has been so brutally hot and humid. As of today it’s in the low 80’s so much better. It really ruins the novelty of having a tropical fruit garden in this weather haha. I’ve been watering a ton and the smaller two still get attacked by white fly so I spray for that still. And were past concern over the powerlines💀

We have had rain 4 of the last 5 days 1 inch, 1 inch, none, and then 0.5 inches before today's 1.6 inches and counting. We were dry on roads here today and I got caught in a deluge down south of bradenton on the 75, 35mph visibility max. I get back here its dry, nothing then from 4-7:30pm we get a good hard rain for 1.6 inches(4cm) in my new rain gage. Yard has puddles, its all soaked. The local golf course pond is up over the grass as are the retaining ponds in our neighborhood. Everything has responded after the moderate dry tipping, its looking like this summer will help heal most of the damage from Milton if this keeps up.

I agree! It's interesting to me that my filifera-leaning tree has taken off so quickly. I have a robusta-leaning tree, grown from the same filibusta seed pack, that is smaller and more compact than this one.

@SailorBold I haven’t seen any established palms around Payson either. I hope my neighbors don’t hate me! 😅I definitely get the feeling that because we’re relatively close to the expansive palm-scape of the Valley, most Payson residents would much rather see pine trees than palm trees. I get it; pine trees are awesome! To your point, however, there are still plenty of large succulents all over town like trunked yuccas, agaves (like Agave chrysantha), desert spoons, chollas, and large-pad prickly pears. In other words, there are many visual cues that Payson sits right at the junction between two different climate zones; it is not a true cold-winter mountain town. I love the eclectic mix of native flora here, and so I figured, why not make it more eclectic? 😂🌴

Interesting I’ve grown a few in pots. When small they seem comparable to fortunei. One went to a friend in TX, he said the Nanital has grown at least twice as fast as standard Fortunei in the ground.

Yeah, the pause button would be nice on this one and a number of my other palms. Ultimately, they all grow too fast.

Hi, i live in central Florida. My spindle palm is having problems I can’t identify. The new palm fronds are opening with yellow tips. I applied special palm fertilizer a couple months ago and have also used a soaker hose to ensure water is getting to roots. The palm is growing and throwing large fronds. The soil here is sandy and drains well. We’ve also had good slow rains 2-3 times per week. I wanted to reach out to the palm experts to diagnose the problem. I appreciate your feedback

Excited for you! Keep in mind they get huge and take up a ton of space. They’re like the size of a canary island date palm! Keep it super wet and they take fertilizer very well and readily.

Doesnt sound long to me. Ive had mine for about 8 years from a 1 gallon and it's only about 3 feet tall now.

i realized i overfertilized it. it hasn’t gotten any worse since i posted this luckily. i’ve been soaking it the past two days for around 30 mins on a slow trickle. i’m hoping it pulls thru
