Yeh, most broms I've tried seem to do well for me and I'm sure they would for you too Jonathan. For the most part all I've had is minor frost burn in winter from ones in more exposed positions, but they've always grown out of it. I've read somewhere that pups from a plant tend to do better than the parent, especially if it's coming from a warmer climate/greenhouse, and I think there's something to that. I believe it is an A recurvata cultivar, but I've no idea what it's called. I got it from a friend recently who gets much harder frosts than me and it does well there. The leaves were very bright red when I got it, then they turned green and the red flower came out, it was quite a transition!

Why not a palm seed thread, we all love our palm seeds, and with so many of us harvesting our seeds from our gardens, or purchasing them. It’s a great way to get seed identification for those who may have there doubts about did I get the real deal. Chamaedorea tenella Mother plant And the rats had been stealing them so harvest time!

If it is coning then your olfactory senses may pick up the scent you’re describing. Everyone has a different sense of smell, perhaps you need to get a job as a smellier! I love the smell of dynamic lifter a chicken poo based fertiliser to me it smells like chocolate which it it is most definitely not chocolate 🍫

A nice Chambeyronia and the Geonoma atrovirens seems to ok in cold wet conditions (for now) still not freezing conditions to kill palms yet, but they will come sooner than later those 2 degrees celcius mornings.

I’m so sorry to hear about your single-stemmed Pemba palm blowing over! That must’ve been a horrible feeling after investing so much time. Also, thank you for all the information! I’ve never grown this palm before. I do know my friend’s C. pembanus (Dypsis pembana) grew to about 20 ft in 7 to 9 years. He said it was well-watered, but didn’t get much fertilizer. I know, Bismarckia and Archontophoenix species can grow extremely fast here, especially when given lots of water and fertilizer.

The iguanura genus, I was quite surprised when I discovered they would take a little cool weather. A zone push winner that I lucked up with. The only thing that they really require is water and lots of it in the ground, I sit them in shallow trays of water they are one palm that doesn’t tolerate dry feet. It took me a little time to work them out but I got there! iguanura sanderianum Iguanura wallachiana Iguanura paddle leaf

Close but no cigar, it’s light bleaching. I have it on my Johannesteijsmannia. When I first seen it I was not thinking variegated, and if it was variegated well the bank account would be a lot larger having variegated joeys that is for sure!

I was sprouting some Mexican fan palm seeds man they took 2 weeks or so to germinate but they growth so fast once they poke through 😭. No wonder they are considered a weed tree. Anyways is this variegated or just one weird leaf Nd it will revert to regular leaves after this one? I’m curious have any thoughts?

Some insecticides give off a very peppery smell. Those used as sprays to treat palms and cycads topically.

Por donde se consiguieron las palmeras? Es común que se siembran y empiezan sus vida en sombra, no en pleno sol.

Boys will be boys, at that stage they would normally be covered in the weevil that does the pollination, alas no weevil for you, only boys being boys!

Still feels like Autumn here in Melbourne. Only one night below 5C so far, and June average so far is more like the long term May averages for high and lows. Considering the Winter solstice is approaching, and our June average is around 6-7C min and 13-14C max, the next week’s forecast is pretty nice. Currently 20C and sunny!

Looks like a Washingtonia . Make sure that pot is draining well , the soil could be clogged. They are tough palms so if you make sure the soil drains well , it should be ok. Harry
