Cycas debaoensis was pollinated with C tropophylla x C mitcholitzi to create this hybrid. I grew out several plants and chose a unique pair for breeding. Father has a nice plumose leaf and mother has a unique metallic green / blue leaf. Leaves can be undulated (ruffled) tripinnate (or sometimes bi-pinnate). These are 2026 1 leaf seedlings with a soild root system. Plants are ready to push a new leaf. Nice experiment regardless Tracy.. It just adds to the collective knowledge. I tried crossing a male Chamaedorea woodsoniana with a female tepilijote last year, thinking it would be a slam dunk. Nature had other ideas, not one seed. Later on, I got him together with a woodsoniana girl next door and.. hundreds of seeds. I can live with that..

Here’s the duo of both varieties, slow in my climate, water lovers and Iam surprised they have taken temperatures as low as 2 degrees celcius. Both varieties planted in the ground and rostrata seems to be wining the race in growing the best.

I didn't have any stormy weather at my house yesterday but it did start to rain around 4:30 and continued for at least 2 hours. It was light steady rain, the kind that really soaks in. The closest county rain gauge read 0.5". This is my 3rd summer here and the first that I'm getting rain, its really awesome.

Brassia Edvah Loo 'Nishida’. These take up so much room in the house. I have three of them. In the winter, I always want to throw them out. But when they bloom, I love them all over again.

I figured they were probably doomed but I'll hang on to them for now. I've seen other types of plants that start white and green up over time so I was wondering if anyone had seen it happen with these.

This is exactly why i kinda veered away from palms. There's not a huge demand here, and what will live here takes forever to grow. I figured I'd sell banana pups and colocssias etc locally and keep some stuff for mail order. And i also make sure i have stuff nobody else has. Lol my banana pups seem to grow too big to ahip@happypalms. The fun part is when i buy bulbs, i usually dont know what I've got until they sprout. I've had the worst luck with caladiums.

Was checking on the progress of some Iriartea seed and noticed they were beginning to germinate. The embryonic leaf, cotyledon, is cute as a ‘button.’ The one seed in the group already has a ‘radicle’, the embryonic root. Just some FYI. This palm is a beast. Tim

I had one spot in my last yard where it seemed a dead zone for planting a smallish palm both the palm and its replacement died. When I dug to plant a big palm at the same site, I found construction debris, all kinds of stuff cauking acartridges etc,. I have spots in my yard now that don't drain particularly well along a designed drainage path. A few years back(4-5) we had 23 inches of rain in august, raining 22 days in a row and a 25 foot bismarck got sick and it was attacked by weevils, dead in less than a month. The phoenix rupicola next to it was fine with the soggy soil, didnt miss a beat. Different species will often have different susceptibilities. The fungus spores are all around your yard, they have impacted just a few palms at most. A soil chemistry/composition test might tell you something, but I would also take a sample or two from near healthy washies to compare. If I was going to take a test I would dig down at least one foot for the soil, dont take surface soil.
