If you want to check fertility of seeds, start looking for the lid
Phoenikakias posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
It is not the size and well-shape of seed the most crucial feature, but rather the existence of the so called operculum or lid, which in case of Sabal seeds in particular resembles a belly button. Where there is a belly button, most probably there is also an embryo inside, where there is not such, most probably seed is sterile regardless other positive features. -
Really nice palm garden . A very unique collection of mature specimens. Thank you for sharing. Harry

I’ve had good luck easing my pothos and snake plant onto a covered porch. I started with bright shade, kept soil a bit drier, and they thickened up fast. -

Thanks. I think Baby Palms is probably a very good shop, this discoloration happened during transport. And he responded now that it will be green again 100% guaranteed once it bounces back. I didn't realize it is possible for leaves to turn much closer to yellow than green but then reverse it. Meanwhile I will give it a bit more humidity and sun hours.

What is your current yard temperature?
Silas_Sancona replied to GottmitAlex's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATE
A pleasant 76F at 9:19PM, after an afternoon in the low to mid 90s... Not too shabby for the start of April.. Forecast for the rest of the week says it all.. A little warmer for your Hump Day, and the day after.. Cooling off again by the weekend.. We'll see about any rain / high country storm chances the next potential storm slated to pass through the area might ..or might not.. bring.. ..Let alone another that might try to approach later. Both systems may mimic what we saw on Monday ..and a few days before that.. Lots of clouds, some breezes ..and maybe a little spit ..or at lest the scent of rain reaching the ground somewhere close by in the air.. ..At least down where most of us live.. Rim / Mountains may see some showers, and maybe a dash of snow < on the highest peaks > if the next storm does end up cooler than the one on the way for the weekend.. No " Miracles " needed ..nor complaints to complain about / " theories " to imagine as reality ..Just pretty good April weather doin' weather- related things in the low Desert. -

You guys have some beautiful trees. I wish I had the time to grow one out or would have pulled the trigger 8yrs ago. My time is short now. One of life’s regrets I suppose. The few around me faired well in the freeze. Some burn but overall look good. Hope you guys did well. -

Put it in the ground and you can remove cuttings. These produce offsets prolificly like bromeliads and they are equally easy to divide and transplant. -
Chrysalidocarpus Onihalensis in Florida
Merlyn replied to RiverCityRichard's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
@PalmatierMeg I was pretty shocked at how well Copernicia did after 22.5F this February. My Fallaensis had near complete burn, but just opened a nearly pristine new frond. Baileyana and Gigas took around 50% burn and also seem ok. I've lost a few Macroglossa to bud rot over the years, but all were small. I have twoo more large seedling sized Baileys and a Fallaensisin the ground now too, and zero damage from the cold. -

Ours just bloomed! I had to move it under the Chrysalidiocarpus Decaryi , it started to get sun burned . The courtyard is now getting a lot more after noon sun. Harry I love the blooms of these . We will probably get more at some point. -

I had a small area of trunk rot on a young KO at one point. I scraped some of the outer soft portion off, then painted it directly with undiluted daconil a couple of times. It fixed the issue, but it wasn’t a crazy bad case. It was revealed by a shed leaf base, and dried out once exposed which probably helped a lot, also. I can say that there is little downside to this approach. Never had an adverse reaction to any amount of daconil put directly on a palm. -
I figure I better start up one of these threads as I have a feeling it may be a dramatic year. Anyway, it has been pretty warm here. Wales had 25-26C today and I had 22C here. Tomorrow it will be 26C / 79F in London… The fires are already back with a vengeance, despite many places having the wettest winter on record. The past few weeks have been pretty dry and warm however. 5 active fires at the time of writing this, but it is the Marsden wildfire has been wrecking havoc. All the roads in the area shut off. Helicopters coming in tomorrow. We will see what the maximum is tomorrow in London. I would say 25-26C but it may reach 27C. I have a feeling the fires will be out of control the next few days…

Has anybody treated a rot spot on their coconut palm trunk? Feels like a soft spot forming. Can that outer part of the trunk be chiseled away, treated, and sealed? Freeze damage is the cause. I've already applied banrot a month ago. Crown is doing fine but now concerned about the inside.
