Oraniopsis appendiculata tough seedlings
happypalms posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEAnother great Australian palm. Slow to grow and germinate. Very sporadic germination rates, anywhere from 12 months to 3 years with them germinating in sporadic bursts. And with the added bonus of being cool tolerant! -
Kentiopsis piersonorium
happypalms replied to Tyrone's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEA few trays full of them should be enough for the domestic market, with a couple left over for the garden! It’s quite surprising, New Caledonia palms how cool tolerant they are, New Caledonia and Madagascar palms in my climate perfection plus they love it, that sweet spot for those palms! The white plastic grow bag gave it away! -
Photos of palms growing in Southern California - including a new coconut in Long Beach, CA!
kylecawazafla replied to kylecawazafla's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEwow that tree is massive! Interesting observations. I've noticed the same " morphotypes" of Delonix regia as well on my travels! Really don't know what influences it! Thank you for the pointers! -
Palms in drought
happypalms replied to sonoranfans's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI know how you feel, black sandy soil I have that drains faster than the kitchen sink, mulch mulch mulch! -
Kentiopsis piersonorium
tim_brissy_13 replied to Tyrone's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDESure is. Approaching 24 months down here. Has only been through 1 full winter and I do keep it protected, but it doesn’t even flinch. I can just tell it won’t have a problem in the ground. Going to plonk it into a north east facing spot against the house with some filtered light through a bit of canopy. -

Grass Removal to Fertilize
happypalms replied to ZPalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEA true gardener is always renovating there garden, a few short living trees would do the trick for that canopy. I have even seen botanical gardens use them in that manner to be removed later on. If you can get your mulch for free even better, just a bit of labour to collect it never hurt anyone! -

Feeler - banana pups and etc
JohnAndSancho replied to JohnAndSancho's topic in For SaleBump. Got another Red Dacca pup and a ground grown Blue Java pup ready to be dug up. Down the pipeline I've got 3 more Musa Pink nono pups. $40 for the Red Dacca and Blue Java, 1g size. When the pinkies are ready I'm bumping the price of them up to $60 plus ship. Might have another Mekong ready or close to it. These are significantly larger than the $15-30 starter plants floating around. And these didn't start off as a bag of Chinese goo. -
1g Alocasia Odora Batik
JohnAndSancho replied to JohnAndSancho's topic in For SaleBump. I know this is palmtalk but i know some of y'all like oddball stuff. 4" pots are selling for $55. -
Small Sabal causiarum for free or trade
JohnAndSancho replied to mrjc's topic in FreebiesWoof. Late reply but I can see what I've got laying around. How big are these? I've got seedlings just nothing noticeable. -

JohnAndSancho replied to JohnAndSancho's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI had to have someone else make an account for me but it let me join instagram on my own. Me and mom have been talking a lot about getting Sancho a little buddy. Not a replacement. Just a buddy. -
What is your current yard temperature?
Silas_Sancona replied to GottmitAlex's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEA warm ..but not overtly gross... 98F at 9:42PM, w/ a Dew Point in the upper 50s and some lingering breezes behind a decent sunset gust front, and a little associated dust, put an end to the gross 113F high earlier this afternoon.. Expect the same deal tomorrow ..Maybe a deg or two shaved off for Friday.. If it doesn't end tomorrow, Excessive heat products hoisted locally right now should end on Fri. Want some rain? Unlike what occurred up in the mountains ..and around Tucson, both today ( and yesterday, ) you'll have to head to / hang out in Nogales as activity hugs both the AZ / NM and MEX / AZ border for the next two days as the 4C high starts gearing up for it's next act.. For now, a nice hint of what lies ahead.. Little more moisture around up above as this shelfie rolled toward the western horizon = could've generated some showers.. Next time. Be Patient. Dan will be live tomorrow ( 11Am PST ) to share his thoughts on what looms beyond the weekend ahead. -
Copernicia rigida
mike in kurtistown replied to aztropic's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEMy contribution from windward Hawaii Island. Hilo rainfall so far this year is about 80 inches, there's been more at my upland location. Seeds from Ortanique in May 2007, this one was planted out (full sun) in Sept. 2014. I had a problem keeping seedlings alive, this one has been doing well as far as I can tell. -

tim_brissy_13 replied to Tyrone's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEEven goes ok down here in the fridge 🙂. This one is going in the ground in October I’ve decided. Got an ideal spot for it. I feel like it’s worth noting that this is now Chambeyronia piersoniorum. I grew up with Kentiopsis and Actinokentia, but they’ve been out for years now.- Grass Removal to Fertilize
ZPalms replied to ZPalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEIf I grew a fast growing tree, Id feel bad to remove them later LOL. Maybe I can get a thin amount of pine straw from the woods.- So What Caught Your Eye Today?
Brad52 replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThis was supposed to be with my R hildebrandtii post but I forgot it and I can’t figure out how to edit a post.- Grass Removal to Fertilize
happypalms replied to ZPalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThe cardboard is a great idea, many a gardener uses it as a no dig garden method. It’s cheap and usually free as well and eco friendly. Another way is just use a line trimmer but that’s ongoing work which we are all trying to avoid, cardboard mulch has another benefit as well retaining moisture and in winter a nice blanket for the palms. Sounds like you solved your problem. You could also plant some fast growing trees and remove them later on utilising them as a canopy. - Kentiopsis piersonorium
