Update: it finally seems to be producing, well, something. They look like fruits, but they’re only about twice the size of BBs. For some reason, I figured a huge palm would probably make at least moderate size seeds. Anyone from Florida care to weigh in on that? Thanks in advance!

Interesting! Wonder if it's related to night temps in summer? Ours are significantly cooler than Auckland, so maybe we're a chance?? Edit: and having said that, we do get temps around 40 every now and then!

I transplanted this one from a JM 15g back in April. It’s a little slow to open leaves but I certainly expect it to survive. It’s maybe five feet tall and has flowered a couple of times, although I hear the inflorescences can be big and these were not.

Confident it’s a Ptychosperma sp. I’d guess P propinquum.

Been growing nicely in deep shade since 2020 Just planted The other day. Iʻm 5ʻ10" tall so itʻs doing just fine.

What a lovely thread - so many great photos, I am always enjoying scrolling through! 🌴 The bougainvillea shot and that evening light on the palm trunk were both beautiful. Just to pull the thread back a bit: the original idea was specifically about palms that show unusual color themselves - red/orange leaf coloring, colorful fruit clusters, unusual trunk or leaf pigmentation, etc. - rather than "green palm + colorful surroundings." Maybe we can steer it back in that direction? Curious to see what else comes up!

This is the only one I have so I have no idea if faster. It is certainly different than the palm I was hoping it would be. I was hoping for more of a curved trunk multi so when the large trunks got too big I could cut them down and have smaller trunks to fill in . As it is it kind of blocks part of our view from the deck , but I just love it so much I have left it alone. Harry

My AC decided to stop working Friday afternoon and yesterday my thermometer hit 122F as the high. Hopefully this thing gets fixed soon because it's 90F inside my house here in the east valley.

Hard to get top dollar on oceanfront property with a bunch of dead palms. These palms might have eventually recovered but it’s likely that some would collapse. And it would take several years to look somewhat normal.

Gave every palm a soil drench of 3336F. Time will tell over the new 3 to 4 weeks.

Last but not least I bought 3 more Encephalartos “Trappes Valley” Latifrons last year and 2 of them are flushing right now. Here is one of them.

Encephalartos Cleopatra x True blue Arenarius flushing for the 3rd time since spring! That hybrid vigor us a thing! I have also noticed each leaf it throws is getting bluer.

Hi, my wife is in love with these palm trees and wants to plant as a high-level privacy screen in our backyard above a 8 foot tall fence in a 5’ wide strip between the fence and the pool. We’ve tried identifying them with multiple growers, and each one tells us a different species. Any help would be greatly appreciated. See pictures, both pictured palms and our home are in Miami. I always assumed it was genetic variability, but I’m sure environment has a role to play in what traits they display. I grow platycerium and environment plays a huge factor in how the plant looks. It would be a good experiment to grow to identical chamaerops in different environments. I think the palms would look greener and less glaucous in the shade.

Encephalartos Longifolious starting to flush.

The parent plant of said pup flush decided to get with it as well. While not the best leaf form of my true blues it does have the biggest caudex and was my first true blue Arenarius purchase.

Love the compact look. The next step for me is to grow seedlings and to observe their variability. Did you germinate many in this batch of seeds?

Amazing! Yes, my whispy leafed chamaerops is also single stem. Do you think single stem chamaerops grow faster than multi trunked chamaerops? I’d assume so.
