For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"

By June it will be really bad based on this, and I'm concerned for fires and agriculture issues. I think this is the worst I have ever seen it since I have been here.

    Texas Palms

It's been 2 weeks and the fertilizer hasn't even arrived at Fedex yet. So I'm assuming they are all out too. Not a great business practice to take someone's money for something they don't have and provide no timeframe for when it may be available. I'm sure it will show up eventually. I'll give them one more week before I contact them to cancel the order.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

@happypalms No matter how many of these pop up around my garden and grow into lovely palms , I never get tired or them. Their versatility is welcomed . Sun , shade or anything in between , they thrive . Those are beautiful . All them look quite “ happy”. 🌴 Harry🌴

John, have you considered carnivorous plants? Sarracenia "Scarlet Belle" or a standard Venus flytrap would be a good start. They would thrive outdoors year-round in Mississippi as well.

    What’s been germinating @happypalms

A few more up this week, it’s always good to see a few more popping up. Iam very happy with some home grown Metallica seeds with a hundred percent success rate. Goes to show fresh seeds produce the best results.

Yes I did and that's pretty amazing . Maybe the owner is willing to give away some seeds . I would knock on their door or leave a nice note with my phone number .

    Cycad cones and flushes

Hunting down Voyager 1 I don't know about Cycads being slow growing, this thing is a rocket. Seedling in '21. Planted in the garden in '22 and now over 6 foot tall.

    Copernicia alba

Bump. Old thread, but didn’t think it's worth starting a new one to ask this question: why can't I grow this species? It should grow here, solid 9b climate, no real cold, but no real heat either. Livistona's are happy here, Butia a breeze...this species comes from similar climates but something seems to be missing. Has anyone had any luck with them in the bay area or NZ? Maybe they just need proper summer heat to get cranking. Thoughts??

What is your current yard temperature?

66F at 10:40PM.. with a few spots, inc. some spots outside downtown PHX still in the 70s.. 4 ..or 5.. day stretch in the 90s starts tomorrow. Long -term local, or in town for some Spring Training games, a rando, end of winter weekend get away, or the UofA / KU game on Saturday? STAY HYDRADTED, and tackle any trails in the mornings / evenings. As warm as it will be here, curious, i took a look at forecasts across the border. Think the " Valley of the Sun " is gonna be toasty over the next few days? I present, ..The current forecast for Hermosillo. While temps down there tend to run a few degs. above what we typically experience, 100 / 100+ readings are well above their average. If they do manage to reach the suggested highs of 106, ...and/or 102 forecast, both would break the Feb. record of 101.3 down there. 106 itself is the record high for ..March.

Fwiw I shipped a giant Chewy cat food box to Miami for $20. That's really not that bad when you think about it. You're right on the liners but the closest I could do right now is McDonald's cups. I've got about 8 billion of them cuz I was trying to win that 10k Lowes gift card during Monopoly and now they're doing 99 cent iced coffee. I don't want to uproot anything that's settled in, but moving forward I'll throw them in McDs cups and an old Wellspring box if that makes a difference. I'm getting a sprout a week of these or so.

They come back easy. If you cut them it will shoot out 2 or 3 shoots. I trim mine back every year to keep them bushy. Those and my crotons in the open defoliate almost every year.

I like the opinions! 🤣 I picked this particular palm as I was pretty sure this level of detailed information does not exist anywhere. I suppose our dumb internet culture is about to get a lot dumber.
