Not the first one observed this year, ..but the brightest so far.. ChzA ( Circumhorizontal Arc ) Tough to see but flaring up under and to the far left of the 22deg Halo. Another flare up attempt. " Green Flash " flareup.. Mature phase w/ Full spectrum coloration. Fainter event about a week ago, ..but present if you look closely enough.. Quick hitter as a batch of Cirrus w/ the right crystal orientation passes through..
  10. That time of year again ( ..Though earlier than last year ) for some beastly, neighborhood full frontals..

    Today:
  12. This is the stick neighbor of the heavier bloomer. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for these stick Royal Poinciana's to bloom this year:
  13. One additional leaved I saw today just starting to bloom:
  14. This guy is really taking off. I have noted an incongruency. Specifically, the Royal Poinciana's that have held their leaves seem to be blooming. That stated, the Royal Poinciana's that have lost their leaves and look like sticks do not show any hint of bloom:
  15. Could be mislabeled!

    Hints of Spring ..Part 2?..

Some chunky Firesticks.. And a first observation of Tithonia diversifolia, in the area.. Ipomoea carnea Ficus benjamina, looking great hovering just above the yellow Canna. Might suggest my neighbor yank the puke- inducing Lagerstromia.. ..A seeding Agave ...colorata?? While i've seen one before, this sure looks like the first neighborhood Spathodea, just down the road. Leaves don't look right for any currently observed - in - the - area Cassia sp. specimens, let alone others i've seen elsewhere.. Regardless, ..We'll see

    Hints of Spring ..Part 2?..

End - Of - April stuff..... Adenium ..someone.. next on stage as the sunrise colored specimen finishes it's spring act.. Yucca Vine / Yellow Morning Glory.. Clarkia amonea = Reminders that spring is quickly moving along. Last of the Hippeastrum ..Remember, Hippeastrum AREN"T Amaryllis, no matter what an old timer calls 'em. Uncarina peltata Asclepias subulata .....Almost showtime >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>
  21. Pretty easy Salvia sp. While you don't see tons of it here like you do back in CA, have seen plenty of specimens locally. Likes some shade here. Noted, correctly ID'ed specimens as far north as St. Louis on iNat, so you shouldn't have issues w/ cold ...As long as you keep it on the drier side. Since it likely will be dormant at that time? no reason to be watering it anyway. Could top the dormant crown w/ leaves / etc. light mulch to add an extra layer of protection during the coldest months as well.

    Texas Palms

As expected everything is growing the way it should. I don't see any casualties but the freezing precipitation really took a toll on a lot of palms this year. Both of my Butia Oderata took spear damage . I'm still looking for a normal spear to come out but from my observations it looks like I can see the tip of a healthy ones. Robusta as always comes back as usual. All Filiferas show cold damage on old fronds now . It was only 22F at my place but the wet cold for 2 days was something else. Nobody got time for that. CIDPs look sad and ugly. Maybe next winter we come out of it better.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

Interesting, thanks for the heads up @tim_brissy_13. I took another picture from a different angle and it appears that you are right. Oh well, if it doesn't survive it won't be the end of the world. I probably planted the six too close together anyway, so culling one or two won't hurt anything.

I will, and thank you Richard! Would you be able to post a pic of the parent plant here when you get a minute please?

Good call, I reckon you've nailed it thanks! Looks like it’s been transferred into Goudaea.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

I think it might be in trouble Paul. Looks like the inflorescences originate from close to the growth point and come up straight out the top. I’ve seen this a few times myself on other species and there’s occasional reports of it on this forum and I don’t believe I’ve heard of any survival ☹️
