Hi everyone, Tom here (Mazat IPS / Grandmaster). I am updating my long-term climate data for the Stachen Microclimate (425m, Lake Constance region). To ensure the highest scientific standards and to account for potential 'heat spikes' in my solar-ventilated Bresser station during the late afternoon (when the solar fan might deactivate while the sun is still low), I have applied a conservative -0.3K safety adjustment to all annual means. Even with this rigorous correction, the data confirms Stachen as a subtropical Cfa enclave, significantly warmer than the surrounding official stations. Here are the adjusted long-term figures from 1990 to 2025. Long-Term Climate Analysis Stachen (425m) – 1990 to 2025.pdf

Archontophoenix alexandrae “Alba”
Jonathan Haycock replied to Jonathan Haycock's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
I don’t think it’s a hybrid Will, rather a genetic mutation disrupting the palms production of chlorophyll. -

Not sure what temperatures it’s experienced Harry, but Tim had one down in Melbourne for a while so might be best placed to comment. I would guess it’s not as cold hardy as with most “Alba” variants. -

My mom loved peonies. I've only seen red. Are there other colors? -
Wow. That's a big bloom. Most of mine are pinks that bloom in March

I really like them too. There is a nice one here in Lake Charles at a Mexican restaurant. It froze to the ground in 21 also. Then they tried to get rid of it. Its slowly coming back. I shiuod ask them if they want me to remove it lol.

Hey y'all - I planted these Trachycarpus 'Himgarda' seeds indoors. I've only successfully germinated seeds outdoors (for T. fortunei). What ate these little dudes doing???

Mexican bush sage growing experience
KPoff posted a topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than Palms
Hello everyone. I’m looking for anyone’s experience on growing Mexican bush sage (salvia leucantha). I just planted a few in zone 8 west Texas (the colder area of west Texas) Midland area. I know they are rated as a zone 8 plant and I’ve read they are fully hardy in 7b/8a in the southeast but was curious anyone else’s experience on them. I know they are not evergreen here but hoping they will come back reliably each year. I have them in full sun and well drained, fertile soil so those boxes are checked. -

This mutant Lehmannii x Blue Longifolious is a freak! I bought it 4 or 5 years ago and Its thrown 10 leaves but is barely 4” tall still only throwing 1 leaf flushes. The leaves are trippy looking! -

One of our little Chamaedorea radicalis (a gift from @Darold Petty) is flowering for the first time. Interestingly, it is the only one of six that has not yet produced a pinnate leaf. -

Any large family of plants, be it palms, orchids, or something else, are always diverse enough that one location could never grow them all. There are others in the palm family of similar background, Medemia for example, that are unique and a challenge for many growers. If someone is in a location that these "holy grail" plants can grow well they likely have a few others, but will be the major grower of that type compared to everyone else. Even "perfect" climates for growing have gaps, Jeff will tell you about species that they cannot grow in Hawaii, while many people rightfully consider it to be a palm paradise. If you can grow one of these holy grail plants then you are lucky for sure, and carry a secondary role as ambassador for the plant to everyone else. And establishing a population of that species as a "life boat" for the original population is also super important for the fussy ones like this. good luck with them! -

More like a Hawaiian garden. San Jose is inland enough to get hot but close enough to get marine influence. -
