HELP: Becarriopheonix Alfredii Dying?
SCVpalmenthusiast replied to SCVpalmenthusiast's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI haven't hand watered it for over two weeks now. The spear feels firm. I tugged it hard and it didn't budge. I'm thinking of maybe planting some Phoenix Roebellinis around it so it doesn't look as bad.

Slow growth of Copernicia alba, possible reasons?
gyuseppe replied to Phoenikakias's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEKonstantinos, as you said, the palm tree is not diseased. I see a plant in excellent health (let's hope the owner is in excellent health too 😁).

Help Identify these young palms?
vlc posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEHi, I planted some random palm seeds I found in Florida about 3-4 years ago, and some of them sprouted. However, I am not sure what palms these are and I am looking for help identifying these. I suspect at least one of these to be Sabal Palmetto, but unsure about the rest. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot! -

Slow growth of Copernicia alba, possible reasons?
Harry’s Palms replied to Phoenikakias's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEYour palm looks healthy to me . Some palms are just very slow and we just have to wait for them to grow. I don’t know anything about the particular palm you have , but I have a few palms that are very slow . I try to enjoy them as little palms , knowing I will probably never see them as mature specimens. Harry

For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"
Eric in Orlando replied to SubTropicRay's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEIt was a good almost 2 weeks for near normal summer rain here but barring tropical systems I think the summer rainy season is done. Non irrigated yards will be dry by Friday. -

Southern Hemisphere Winter 2026
Jonathan replied to cbmnz's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEYep. Painful experience makes a person cautious...last year I started the southern hemisphere summer thread about 2 months to early...not touching that one again. Fully expecting that September will be the coldest on record. -
Slow growth of Copernicia alba, possible reasons?
Phoenikakias posted a topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThis Copernicia is absolutely healthy but it seem like needing an eternity to put on some cm in height. What are possible reasons for it? Too little water (because of slopy landscape and/or competition with an adjacent Guava shrub), too cold in winter, to poor soil all together or what else? By all means it is healthy has 4 spears in different stages of developing. -

Southern Hemisphere Winter 2026
cbmnz replied to cbmnz's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEBe weary if you have just had your mildest winter in terms of extreme min, and the the next one starts really mild also. It turns out you don't need a long lead in of gradually escalating cold or below average sea temperatures to break an all time cold record - just one super inopportune synoptic setup will do it. 🫣 -

Livistona Australis deadly little juvenile thorns
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEI was never a big fan of Livistona, until recently I started to admire the beauty within them. Only specialist palm growers have the ones you mentioned above, most of them grow in very isolated areas, or in national parks that are protected, a lot of caravan camper travellers collect the seeds. Being home palm growers they know what they’re looking at. The same with our native cycads in such remote areas and hard to get places for the average person. And national parks officers don’t muck around when it comes to poaching seeds, they have a job to do and that’s to protect our flora and fauna. And a lot of cycads if you get the seeds you need tags to sell them! And they don’t issue those licenses to collect seeds to the home grower that’s for sure!
