I think so too, it's a goner. Yes, next time (if there is one) I will do that probably. I have realized, a bit too late, that anything tropical-esque needs to be planted on a raised bed. I am doing that now but didn't do it in the beginning when I first moved to this property. It's hard job, lots of digging and I hate that but it's a must.

Chelyocarpus has deeply split in the middle which is not shown here in the subject palm. Therefore I am still saying it is Sabal Yapa

Look at the uniform sawtooth ridges of the leaflets which aren't deep and less uniform like Sabal. The hastula looks just like that of a Chelyocarpus to me. Are you perhaps looking at Husain's photo and not Sean Osborne's which is definitely a Sabal yapa?

I’m afraid it will be a while for my little one . I lost a small one down on my hill last year . A gopher decided to make a meal of it . Fortunately , gophers don’t come up here in my garden and when I found this one at a local nursery , I decided to give this palm another go. This time up here in my garden. Harry ‘This Syagrus Schizophylla got eaten not long after this photo was taken. This larger one , keeping Ernie company , will go somewhere up here in the garden.

Just out of curiosity, have you seen if these have the same "flexibility" as cocos with hurricane winds? Seems like you guys on the east coast have been growing them well for a while now so I would imagine that they pretty durable.

check out its hastula. Chelyocarpus has a nice little pointy one. that sticks up like a thrinax. hastula on his palm is flat like sabal yap. also the leaves a split way more than Chelyocarpus, and they have that silver blue on the tops of the leaf like yapa. every Chelyocarpus I've seen looks like licuala ramsayi with that nice glossy green. The newest leaf is also clearly starting to go costapalmate.

That would be interesting to find out! I'd love to find out if a palm enthusiast lived there because I'll probably be going back.

I spent a lot of time in Ireland and Northern Ireland, but I wasn't into gardening then. The only thing I remember were the Cordylines.

I did a "search by image" on google and its answers didn't seem to "compute" with what I'm seeing in your photos...however it did say the best thing to do is call the Royal Horticulture Society, they have personnel skilled in moths/caterpillars and can tell you what it is, and if it's at all dangerous to your palm. You can call them at 020 3176 5800 and hopefully they can direct your call, or you can submit the image through their sightings page here. Perhaps a knowledgeable member here will chime in with the answer, but maybe the call to the RHS is the easiest way. Let us all know what you find out!

Ouch. It looks like that one went bye-bye, trunk of course should not be black (should be a mostly reddish color...have you dug down and checked the very bottom of the trunk, or looked at the root-area? If it's gone, and you get a replacement, or start one from seed, have you thought about making a berm of that nice sandy stuff and planting it high? I think that would give it a "choice" of where it wants to spread its roots, and hopefully will stay fairly high where it has that nice highly draining soil, so it can stay out of the bad stuff below. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Without a doubt, it's a palm tree worth having in the near future.

Update on this guy. It’s now spit into two trunks. Still lots of color. If officially named it “dypsis sp. quaman” until I get a better ID.

More neighborhood Plumeria.. Pink specimens could be something like Slaughter ..or Courtade Pink.. Lighter in color than the darker / brighter hued specimen noted elsewhere on Sunday. Not a Rose or Sweet 'Tader fan but have to admit both seem to accent these two Plumeria quite well.. Yellow flowered specimen on another side of this property.. Mid Spring = Waterlily Peak ..#1.. Nymph. X " Colorado " in this case May need to check on the " feral " Mex Yellow Waterlilies in a different area.. As warm as this winter was ..and March ofcourse, i wonder if some Tropical Night Bloomers spotted in a park nearby might be up already. Not so sleepy Cassia Fistula.. Wil that effect how it flowers this year??.. Ficus religiosa.. ...And Poinciana in this yard.. Same 3 trees in a yard across the street. Side eye of the day: ..This pine half a block up from the house has been steadily dying since ...last spring.. Yet ..whomever owns / maintains the Apmt. complex has yet to get the effected limbs down ..something a smart person would have already.. If they don't remove 'em before the winds of Monsoon Season arrive, it will be interesting to see what happens when that occurs.. Got plenty of proof to share w/ those parked under / nearby should they fall and damage property.

I haven't seen an inflourescence on mine yet. I'll check it again when I go see if the coconut I threw in the woods last summer has sprouted yet 😂
