So What Caught Your Eye Today?
Harry’s Palms replied to The Gerg's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEWhat timing! I was just up the ladder yesterday . My large C. Obtusa had a frond that was overhanging my neighbor’s driveway and their cars were gone. I cut it with my pole mounted chainsaw. Crash! It came down . I had to use the street to cut it up. Super heavy and filled one of our green cans after I chopped it up. They are beautiful palms , each new frond is like a whole new palm. Harry

cycas panzhihuaensis x debaoensis
Scott W replied to JubaeaMan138's topic in TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than PalmsNice looking cross, thanks for sharing. Odds are though it's a multifrondis that was used for the cross. There was some serious debate years ago about many seed lots being sold as debaoensis that turned out not to be.l and even recent seed batches have turned out not to be. Lots of discussions in the FB cycad groups on this. - Today

Licuala orbicularis still germinating
Harry’s Palms replied to happypalms's topic in PALMS IN POTSThank you , Richard . That helps , I’m learning as I go here . Once they get leaflets I plan to slowly move them into my garden , I do know they prefer it cool . Especially while young. If they are similar to Howea in requirement , we got this . Harry

Update on my 9a-9b garden in northern Greece
Harry’s Palms replied to dimitriskedikogloy's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEIf you want a good canopy , Syagrus R. is a great option . They are messy when they flower but the bees love them and bees are great environmental friends. @gyuseppe , beautiful palms! I bet they provide a nice bit of shade for that part of your garden. All but one of my Queen palms are prolific seed producers . Most of the time I have the spathes cut as soon as they show up , but with all of the palms it’s hard to keep up so I get volunteers in the garden. Fortunately the seedlings are very slow growers. Once the plumose fronds emerge ….look out! Rocket ships. Harry

Licuala orbicularis still germinating
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in PALMS IN POTSThe amount of things I have learned on palmtalk has been amazing, some very good growers out there, palmtalk is such a large t as lent pool. I had my ones originally on heat mats and read what you said about just normal room temperature is fine, so we learnt of each other, in this case! I find treat them like a Howea species a bit like masoala madascariensis, that is what I have learnt about them! Richard -
For some, Florida drought is getting very "extreme"
sonoranfans replied to SubTropicRay's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATEWe got a nice wet down yesterday at 7pm, about half an inch. Hoping this continues into a real wet season. Ive been waiting to plant a few palms, but I wont do it until the rains ar more consistent. Its much easier to keep palms in pots at this time.

Cycas panzhihuaensis x multifrondis
Scott W replied to Scott W's topic in For SaleWe had 23f this past winter for a few hours and my multifrondis male had zero damage. These plants were out in the open on my benches and had zero damage as well. I know panzhihuaensis is touted as the most cold hardy, and being it's the mother plant in the mix I would be confident saying it didn't lose much. -
Cycas panzhihuaensis x multifrondis
Scott W replied to Scott W's topic in For SaleI think I'm on a watch list... seriously. My last three shipments all were flagged and confiscated. I paid to have one returned due to the amount of plants in the order. So until I get my nursery license it's a no go. Still working on other projects but hoping to complete this process later in the year. -

First winter damage
happypalms replied to happypalms's topic in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDEThey are tough as nails, so I can’t figure out why they died, unless humilis is a different form, which apparently it’s not, so something went wrong, but all three dead I just put it down to cold weather. Knowing they are tough to cool cold conditions I obviously did something wrong to kill them all! -

Southern Hemisphere Winter 2026
cbmnz replied to cbmnz's topic in WEATHER / CLIMATE-1.9 this morning, it was a sleeper with forecast only for 0, and the temp was holding up well at bedtime. It actually didnt even go below 2 until 2am and freezing at 4:30am. For that reason doesn't seem to have any damage beyond what occured two weeks ago. Two more cold nights to follow in this sequence. -
