    Chambeyronia Macrocarpa toast?

@SCVpalmenthusiast I would give it shade where you are for sure . At least for a few years. Lots of water in the warmer months . Mine grew into the sun from deep shade and burned every summer until I figured out that it wanted more water. I now water every other day , spring through fall , and it helps a lot. Congratulations on your new palm. Harry

    Phoenix dactylifera

I like the Medjool palm. I have these palms, but they're protected indoors. And Theophrasti is great. I obtained pure RPS seeds.

    Chambeyronia Macrocarpa toast?

I would love to see an update. I just picked up a macrocarpa today. Florida prices are nice. Mine was over $100 similar size. I put it in the back of my truck and the leaflets got shredded bad on the freeway. One side of the petiole lost all the leaflets.

    Containing Rhapis Excelsa

@D. Morrowii did the 55 gallon drum work out? I have a Koban and a variegated one that I'd like to plant. Both were way too aggressively spreading in the ground. My clusters of regular green Rhapis took off like mad not too long after I commented here that they were fine. I found shoots 6 feet away from the main clumps and ripped them all out. The unusual ones I potted up. I was thinking of pouring a concrete barrier 30" or so deep, or a galvanized steel tub, or something else like your drum.

    SWFL palm ID

I see them all over SWFL. Some got some winter damage east of I-75 in Sarasota but pulling through just fine. That glossy lime green color is definitely an eye catcher
  15. I have this caryota gigas in a pot that is good centerpiece material, but when i tried acclimating it to more sun it didn't look better until i drug it back under the tree. So i figured something else would appreciate the fun sun and well draining spot more than that.

    Senegal Date Palm

Thanks, JLM, that’s good info. I see you are in Pace outside of Pensacola. Several years ago, really like more than a decade ago, a guy on this forum sent me seeds from Canary Island Day Palms h said we’re growing around the courthouse in Pensacola. He said the trees were probably about 100 years old. The seeds all sprouted beautifully, but I could not get long-term survival for CIPD here in Dallas, TX. When I visited Mobile and the Gulf Coast last year to see the SS United States, we drove over to Pensacola, but I did not see any CIPD around the courthouse. Did those trees just live out their years or did they freeze? thanks, I guess I didn’t know where to look. There used to be a few of those in Mobile, too, but I think they’ve all died out. On another note, I really don’t understand how the threads work on this form. I’m not sure if you’ll even see this reply.
  17. Jim absolutely right about the size of plants from Flouibunda their 1 gal would pass as a 5 from a lot of nurseries!!!
  18. Much like everyone else around here the hard freeze in feb killed my pandanus. When i was planting it i didn't know what to do with it and a website mentioned it was an old south fla custom to plant it right in the middle of your front yard, so that's what I did and gave it lots of room to grow out. Now that it's gone I've been racking my brain and scouring the interwebs for a replacement in such prime real-estate. I'm in inland central florida, they call it 10a but the hard freeze was a good reminder that anything very cold sensitive is subject to death or serious injury anytime. Not trying to recreate the pandanus incident. Spot is full sun on a well draining gentle sandy slope. I'd like to get something that isn't commonly used, but not very hard to grow. I've been looking at ornamental flowering trees, but it doesn't have to be something like that. A good example is that i have an australian bottle tree in the back that is getting big, looks good, and survived that hard freeze without problems and i kind of regret not putting that out front where more people could see it. So i thought it would be a good idea to ask for any out of the box type suggestions before i really settle on something.
