  11. SeanK

    SWFL palm ID

A few years back, I saw these near Marineland, just south of St. Augustine FL. I didn't go down there this trip to see if they survived the winter.

    Arenga engleri in St Augustine

Been walking around more . Queens burned 5% to 10% Pigmy Dates burned 75% to 100% Bananas and Birds of Paradise burned 100% Philodendron selloum burned 0% This is around the George St / Historic district.
  13. Well done on the germination, I kinda like the way this species looks on the RPS website, might add some to my next order. Looks like your container only has a little coco coir and the roots is pushing up against the bottom. Very remote germination.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

They absolutely can survive planted in the ground, in Phoenix, if sited correctly. (Think microclimate) Here's one I had grown from seed that was in that spot for several years. Also had a bottle palm in the ground for about 20 years before our brutal summer of 2020 took out both of them...🤷‍♂️ aztropic Mesa, Arizona

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

Keith, I remember how blown away I was how beautiful the Psuedophoenix and Copernicia were when I attended the 2014 Miami biennial. Thanks for posting those photos. Tim

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

    Thanks

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

I might move them to a more " bright light, but out of direct sun " kind of spot..

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

@Silas_Sancona Looks like they are losing water after some hours of full sun, is this good or bad?
  19. idontknowhatnametuse

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

They have been becoming popular this decade, I have a seed grown pink Pseudobombax but it didn't flower this year and actually it's still sleeping, no noticeable new growth yet.

    Chambeyronia Macrocarpa toast?

Beautiful Harry, how many years did it take to grow this size?
  21. Johnny Palmseed

    SWFL palm ID

Yes pandanus. Sometimes called Screw Pine. Screw for the nature of the growth. Pine for the pineapple like flavor of the fruit.

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

Always a risk, but one worth taking.. Who knows, maybe you end up introducing the owner to a new palm / something else they might not be aware of through any future exchanges. I see there are more recent pink flowered Pseudobombax observations around Monterey on iNat too.

    Trachycarpus seedling... wandering around

Ah HA! They are just wandering around. Three new shoots coming up from wherever the radical is meeting the soil, I guess?
  24. Why why why did I have to end up in another city and see these?
  25. idontknowhatnametuse

    Pink Pseudobombax ellipticum fruit

The owner is very kind actually but I don't know if she might think it's annoying to recieve the same stranger 2 times just for them to collect seeds, lol.
  26. I bought Merit insecticide and each package contains 4 sachets with the substance. Well here is my question: are those sachets dissolvable, meaning I do not need to cut them open instead I throw them directly in to the water bucket?

Not having to deal w/ seedlings that might pop up / less messiness from any fluff blowing around, and having met you already / seeing that your intentions are purely innocent, imagine the owner wouldn't get annoyed about that. Fine if this thought isn't totally correct, but, seems people there in Mex / from there ..more of them than here at least.. are happy to share plants or seeds w/ others.. Been my experience at least.
