These have been one of my favourite since I saw them years ago Jonathan. I had a seedling from P4B but unfortunately while I moved house it was out of my care and fell over in its pot undetected and was shrivelled when I found it. Good to see that second generation getting mature. Would love to try these again.

To my knowledge, the only Worldwide example of Archontophoenix alexandrae “Alba” came from a batch of regular Alex seed germinated in SE Queensland a number of years ago. Subsequent seedlings were distributed amongst a few lucky Aussie growers and are now maturing. Seed from these first generation palms appears 100% true to the “Alba” form. Not only do they have a yellow crownshaft, but some also produce pink/red new leaves. Gorgeous palms. Look incredible planted together with Archontophoenix pupurea.

Good information. But the reference is very weak. And it doesn't appear in all books. They are few or nonexistent. Or they play a minor role. It only exists in the minds of people who know about palms. And those people know more than the botanists, academics, or researchers themselves, or publishing houses. And even less prominence is given to Attalea, Iriartea, and many other South American palms hidden deep in the jungle. Only Floribunda in Hawaii loves these palms and treasures them all in a single display. It contains them very well in one place. And no other place can compare. Who can compare to Floribunda? Only the Singapore Botanical Garden can boast such wonders as Floribunda. The owner of Floribunda in Hawaii wants to buy hundreds of Juania australis seeds from me. He is truly an experienced person, and the head of these palm kingdoms. He is the master and lord of containing such great exotic luxury. Hugo Aravena Chile

That’s the one understory dream palm, so easy to grow and work with, you dont need 50 acres to grow them. A small courtyard you could pack a couple of dozen varieties in easily. Elegans goes great as mass planting, I get that many seeds of my ones they soon create there own ground cover.

My gauges recorded between 0.10 to 0.20 inches of rain in various parts of the yard. Not the gully-washer we could use, but better than nothing.

Well hears 3 more of that 400, so only 397 more to go!

And with so many to collect, it will never end collecting them.

I was just noticing the way this specimen is holding more pendant leaflets and even the leaves. Mine normally hold a very upright leaf until it self cleans, and the leaflets rarely go pendant. Perhaps climate differences make for different appearance?

Nice peaceful night. Chilly 5.1C here at 3am under clear skies after a max of 23.1C. Humidity down to 10% here earlier. The state of those fires in Northern Ireland tonight. Absolute infernos.

My favorite genus - or tied for first with a few others maybe. Just so fun to collect because you can cram so many in a small space. Not many people here in Florida collect them or even bother to use the common species to their full potential in the landscape. Just the other day I bought 40 little elegans seedlings crammed in a pot for $4 at trader joes. Separated them 3 to a pot and in a year or so will tuck them into random corners of the garden, almost like a ground cover.

If they are hybrids of Reclinata, they are beautiful but also coarse. And they don't have the delicate and harmonious form of a pure Reclinata. I managed to germinate some pure Reclinata seeds from RPS Germany. I hope they grow into delicate and glorious fronds. 🌴🌴🌴🦜🦜

It "rained" here today. Enough to dampen the street and lawn but not enough to reach the soil.

I spotted small papaya plants at one of our local big box stores. They were about a foot tall.

I made it back over there and grabbed 3 inflorescences.

Looks very good.

Gentlemen, Richard's jungle is magnificent. It's truly awe-inspiring and inspires awe. It's pure Hawaiian jungle.

A couple plants/palms I saw today in London specifically at zsl.

Low of 44f/6.6c under clear extremely calm skies last with a high of 73f/22.7c with 13% humidity. This in the second day in a row the humidity has been under 20%, desert like weather. I’m having to flood the garden with water in the morning and evening to keep certain plants growing/staying alive. UV was a 6. The temp hasn’t dropped as fast tonight and it’s currently 56g/13.3c at 1.20am. Next week the day temps look pretty good high 60s low 70s and the nights start to warm up to the low 50s consistently. The average high for April so far has been 17.1c here and will continue to climb.
