I remember my first trip to Kuaii, the coconuts stacked up around mail boxes in residential neighborhoods with a “free” sign . How much coconut can a family eat? I will say , like most fruits and veggies, home grown / fresh coconut is awesome! Harry

Joeys I don’t mind and if they ever get to be weed even better, but the cursed tree fern is a problem in my container plants, such a problem, I guess the old saying one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I reckon you water your one a lot especially in your sunroom?

Can anyone ID this? The owner was ok with me digging it up, the fire ants were not, so I only got about half of it. Looks pretty ragged at the moment so the "before" pics are all I have to offer. Stands about 6' tall with no old or cut stalks wider than the ones that are currently growing so I think this is the max size. Was growing in part/mostly shade in Houston. Super dense leaves similar to a witches broom you might find on a tree.

I got this problem with a 40' tall coconut palm leaning into a pool. A standard bucket truck will not reach it from outside the fence. So it has to be climbed with a ladder while it sways in the wind. Here is a bit of splash into the pool, and I collected 45 coconuts.

I can only grow my anthuriums indoors. I know they would be happier in the summer weather outdoors, but I just can’t bear to see them getting bruised and battered with the wind and insects and all. Here are some , with a few other aroids and houseplants as well.

That would be such an exotic and desirable weed for me in my sunroom! I have a potted one in the sunroom that I just pamper. I’m envious that you can grow these outdoors…and along with a Joey palm outdoors too??

I went to the nearest shelter today to drop off a case of prescription food that Sancho won't eat anymore. She said the small dogs go as soon as they come in. I've got a customer who had a stray dumped in her yard and that might work if it's not too big. I wanted a puppy from the shelter so bad but I'm in no shape for puppy and potty training and I don't want to have to feed a giant beast either. I think 20 pounds is about my weight limit. And it's gotta get along with Sancho and the 2 million cats.

My screen is in unreadable gray mode. Gray mode is not dark mode. You can't go middle road to please both light moders and dark moders at the same time by going gray. Gray kills the contrast. I can hardly read this. The idea is to increase contrast and make text easier to read. If you go dark, go very dark. Otherwise, white background was better. This looks like gray mud. We need mode not mud. Is it my screen only?

Do it. Nothing is forever,and Sancho would have another friend until his time comes. The new pooch could learn (hopefully good) habits from Sancho and it would provide some happiness when the eventual occurs. My wife owns a dog grooming salon and is cuckoo for canines. We have 3 and even though they can be destructive I wouldn't trade them or the chaos for anything. 1 whose 10,1 that's 3 and one that's 18 months. My oldest dog spends a fair amount of time sleeping and farting but she enjoys the other dogs company. The young dogs are psychos but that's just part of the ride

Not much room out front anymore. Will just be plugging in bromeliads, coonties, and small shrubs here or there over time. The back needs a ton of work next, but it’s a small area of free space back there. I can’t deal with anything that isn’t very hardy for the area back there, so I’ll probably get a few Natives and Cuban palms, and tons of rocks. The entire back and pool area need a total gut job.

I blame you for getting me hooked on broms, I only like the colours and the humidity affect they give. Not into names and all that stuff with broms, Ive already destroyed enough brain cells over the years, what storage space left is for palms and my wife’s name and remembering to say I love you to her, can’t have broms getting in the way now can I.

I don’t an excuse to buy seeds I know that much, the only excuse I do need though is explaining to the wife why I purchase so many seeds. No shes not dry they died about 4 weeks ago. And the amount of rain we been getting no chance. I haven’t fertilised or sprayed to cause any issues but obviously I did something wrong. All good it’s not like they are super rare and being a synonym of nana no great lose. I purchased them at the recent pacsoa meeting so I blame the prior grower 🤣

I thought the green was a fully matured car about to flower and red the juvenile stage! 😂

There's just too many hybrids and cultivars, and so many of them look so similar that I don't really understand the point! I'm trying to stick to species, or at least species varieties, and avoid hybrids whenever possible...otherwise my brain might explode!

Bummer Richard, but a good excuse to buy more seeds! Looks a tad dry in that pot...is it possible they dried out over autumn and you didn't notice it? Also meant to be hardy to -3c or something similar, so as Tim mentioned, shouldn't be a temperature issue??

Sean, the common wisdom is that only the Hawaiian species will grow in California, so... no P. pacifica or P. thurstonii.

Great effort, and 5 years worth of growth that we can only dream of in more heat deprived climates! Is the garden full now, or do you still have some room out the back to play with?
