  2. Richard, if they germinated for you, they'll germinate for me too. The only problem is that you won't get rid of me easily! 😄I'll keep asking you for seeds (I have to be brave and ask you for them; bought seeds never germinate).
  3. All of the information needed should be supplied above. The flier is attached as a PDF as well. Please feel free to share far and wide. Please send questions/concerns to cfpacs.membership@gmail.com. 20260316_CFPACS_SJBGNP.pdf
  4. We are several growers in southern Europe, what we lack is coordination and networking. If you consider, that Portugal with Algarve, Spain with Costa Tropical, Costa del Sol, Costa de Almeria etc, France with Corsica, Italy with Sicily, Greece with Rhodos and Crete and finally Cyprus are all countries being members of the same customs and trade union, and their aforementioned regions have a climate very close to the one in SoCA, there must be a decent quantity of less usual palm seeds available.
  5. fresh seeds I received from my Australian friends always sprouted
  6. Thank to you Konstantinos, I don't know how many seeds you sent me! The Chamaedorea klotzschiana seeds are all black, but I want to wait another month to send them, so they will be sure to be ripe.

Your garden knows who you are

Even a small balcony garden, it talks to you!

Your garden knows who you are

You learn to know your garden after a lot of years. The symbiotic relationship is a natural feeling. You create a unique animal habitat in your garden, after all we are an animal. In time your garden gets depth, a true gardener never stops planting and changing their garden. You even get familiar with the animals live in and around your garden. All you have to do is just look into the space you have created then you see the answers to gardening!

Coconut palm trunk question for Dwarf

Your palms look very happy. What you are doing is obviously working well. However, it looks like you are cutting the oldest fronds off while still green. I would recommend not doing that until they are brown. I see that you have a walkway and that is a valid reason for cutting. Maybe just cut that side? The less you cut, the more the palm will appreciate it. As for the width of the base, I planted 3 of the same germination batch and each one was a different size. One was huge compared to the other two so that’s just the variety of nature.

Your garden knows who you are

Plants feel your energy, you cut them and they feel it. A true gardener grows with his garden, it tells you where to plant new plants, a garden is a true biosphere created by the gardener. Plants know who we are they are grooming us knowing one day they will get the chance to eat us. So the next time you look at your garden just so you know that garden has other plans for us as we all know dust to dust ashes to ashes make good fertiliser! I think like a plant when in my garden, you water your plants and you can see a certain vibrational energy. I bring a new plant home and say to that plant welcome to your new home, then say to garden say hello to your new friend. It’s not crazy it’s being in tune with Mother Nature! Richard
  14. Try living in Australia. Fresh home grown seeds make a huge difference, and even better if there harvested from your own garden!
  15. True, when I get fresh seeds from anywhere, even from Oceania, my main problem is the surplus of resulted seedlings, when I buy small packets from the market, I would be extremely happy, if I get a single sprout, anf this situation becomes a dejavu over and over again, like Groundhog Day.
  16. Home grown chamaedorea metallica seeds, 70 germinated from 70 seeds, the other ten seeds went to @gyuseppe, so waiting to see how many he gets, but so far 100 percent germination in Australia. Fresh is best!
  17. Thank you my friend @gyuseppe for the rupicola seeds. Both seeds sowed side by side.

So What Caught Your Eye Today?

Never a dull moment in the garden with a dypsis louvelli and a Chambeyronia hookerii for a touch of colour.

    Free Aloe vanbalenii

Free to a good home. Had no idea it would get this large! You’ll need to dig and move it. About 2.5 feet wide and tall. It’s the aloe in the foreground near the sidewalk. I would put it in my hellstrip but the leaves are fragile and break easily. pick up in San Francisco
  20. Microcarpa stay green and are ripe when they naturally drop off the tree Cocoides turn a purple plum colour and are ripe when they drop

    Copernicia Fallaensis transplant

yeah they look so similar ! wish the p.pacifica could grow here in SoCal. Don't think they would last during our cold & wet winters.

    Copernicia Fallaensis transplant

THank you !! I appreciate your words of encouragement. I can only dream of having a Fallaensis like yours someday ! So dreamy. Also regarding fertilizer, I fertilized just recently (since we are in Spring) with palmgain. Also added in SulPoMag since the soil here is sandy & well draining, hoping to prevent any ugly yellow future fronds. So far so good. Also wanted to add here in SoCal, as of this week & last week, the weather has been crazy hot ! One our hottest day, the temp was 104 (although this was from my car, so probably more like 100 outside). I made sure to give the Copernicia plenty of water during these very hot days. Not everyday it's watered, but I do a slow drip, let the hose run for 30-45 mins or so. I can definitely add in Humic Acid to my regime (have some already). Will have to get dolomite.

    Southern Hemisphere Growing Season 2025/26

Very unusual but not impossible. Usually no frost before June, but like all things with Tassie weather, you'd be a fool to rely on that assumption! 27 here today, though looking like some rain and cooler conditions ahead this week...rain will be much appreciated.

  25. First one looks like Maxillaria tenufolia.
  26. Thank you! It’s been a pleasure watching it grow 😊
  27. Yep, that's an embryo!
