Yes, while surprising, I find coralloid roots all over my garden at a similar distance from any Cycads. Some are isolated by paver walkways about 3 feet wide from the closest Cycad. I have drip irrigation and find coralloid roots near the emitters of palms and other non Cycad plants. If you search for posts with "coralloid" in the title, you will find a string I started a few years back with some examples of stray coralloid clumps.

I am enjoying the color of this unknown species id Anthurium's flower spadix.

Thanks again, I have plenty of rocks for that fig. And if you’re memory has faded don’t worry so has mine! The wife imported some dahlia seeds from America and got some interesting varieties I will get a few to you when we lift them up.

I have always loved chatting about palms/cycads and plants in general with Maria. I've known her and her sons for the better part of 10 years, and she has always been so kind. Maria was the owner of Sago Rey Palms in Fresno, where she continued the business after the passing of her husband Thomas Wash. I was very saddened to hear of a horrible incident at the nursery over Easter weekend, and further saddened to learn of her passing. She will live on in the memory of many of us here in the area (and out of the immediate area) who have crossed paths with her. My garden is full of plants she cared for and nurtured. If any of you got those really blue Sabal uresana seedlings, they came from Maria. That's a nice one Richard... I don't know much about Aroids, beyond the common Alocasias, Philodendrons, etc. This just sent me down a small google worm hole, where I discovered that have a species - Gymnostachys anceps, Settlers Flax, that I had no idea was an Aroid. It looks more like some sort of sedge! Probably grows wild in your area, think I collected the seed near Cobark on the road up to Barrington Tops.

Glad they arrived safely if a little crumpled! I think the Alectryon should be excelsus, not excelsa, my memory let me down there. Will be interesting to see how the tree dahlia goes in your subtropical climate, should be OK though hopefully. Plant the fig on some boulders!

As expected, central areas are trending down with expected totals. The SE coast meanwhile, shows an uptick. Translated: More of the same. I expect less than a quarter inch when all said and done while Dade and Broward will again need canoes to maneuver through traffic. The emoji I'm searching for is of course inappropriate and unavailable.

They don't like dry heat and resent container culture. They have to get shifted earlier than most palms (including Rhopalostylis), and they are quite inconsistent across a crop, unlike most commercial palms. The places palms are grown in California are often in areas warmer / drier than they like. We had trouble with them in Fallbrook, partly due to leaving them in containers far too long, and possibly due to the warm, dry summers.

Who's had luck with Syagrus weddelliana in full sun in California (or other Mediterranean climates)? I'm seeing it do better than I expected in part-sun and curious whether anyone's got it in all-day sun. I did see a couple in Rio in full sun at the bus station, but not looking the best.

This plant was acquired as an Encephalartos arenarius blue form hybrid. The male cones look like horridus cones in color. Right now it is pushing flushes on the main caudex plus two pups, one of which is a new pup. It's largest pup was my last Encephalartos flush of the 2025 autumn season, so it is probably building energy still.

update, the(BxJ)xJ went into the ground in 2024(?) before milton hit. Its doing well and just starting to put out longer leaves and more of them each year. It has had Little to no feeding and a sparing use of water in the area. Its a tad over 6' tall now. I like the symmetry of the leaves compared with my BxJ. The even spacing of the leaflets reminds me a little of my cuban copernicias.

My Aloidendron dichotomum is starting to split into two growing points. The branching will be at about 5 1/2 to 6 feet.
