Dry-summer Oceanic / Warm summer Med (Csb) - 9a

Average annual precipitation - 18.7 inches : Average annual sunshine hours - 1725

Posted (edited)

I haven't updated this thread in a long while (3 months) and bloody hell do I have a lot to cover. Since then we have broken the all-time temperature record (day and night), had an unprecedented drought, seen countless wildfires on a daily basis and the southeast of England has almost become unrecognisable now. Almost desert-like.

The heatwave in mid-July produced the all-time record of 40.3C / 104F in Lincolnshire with London also recording 40C+ on multiple stations...

The fires that ensued were severe...

I have had bad fires in my neck of the woods as well. On multiple occasions I have both seen and smelt smoke on my property.

The nearby Hankley Common wildfire in late-July however caused smoke to drift past the back of my property. The first few are my own photos...

Water sources are running dangerously low. The main source for the river Thames has dried up and the river starts 4 miles further downstream now.

Some places in southern England have gone 38+ days without any rain. My total for July was 0.03 inches, but some places had nothing. For the entire summer so far (75% gone) I am on 0.63 inches. My annual total for the whole of 2022 do far is only 4.62 inches. So exceptionally dry!

No let up in the fires over here. London has been getting hid badly over and over.

Look how quickly this fire spreads through the bushes/trees in Hanworth Park, London...

Some parts of central London just scraped a csa this year the rest of the south east had a csb year.  While I would say it isn't yet a full Mediterranean climate this year was above average the summers are getting warmer and warmer on average here and drier as well. central London is heading towards a csa whilst the rest of the south east is heading towards becoming a csb climate in the next 10-20 years. The next 5 years will be interesting if the majority are similar to this one then that would be a better indication and pretty much confirm it we will have to see for now.  Have there been any larger fires this month?
